Driving license Bangalore to Sikkim: a state-by-state licence guide
A driving license Bangalore applicants get is applied for on the national Sarathi portal with Karnataka chosen as the state, and the same portal serves Sikkim, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh cities such as Noida and Lucknow. You take a learner licence first, wait at least 30 days, then pass a driving test at the RTO covering your address. Central fees start at ₹150 per class.
Key takeaways
- Bengaluru, Sikkim, Jharkhand, MP and UP all use Sarathi; only the state you pick and the office on your slot change.
- Bengaluru has nine city and suburban offices from KA-01 to KA-53; Sikkim has eight, SK-01 Gangtok to SK-08 Singtam.
- Central lines are ₹150 per class for a learner licence, ₹300 per class for the driving test and ₹200 for issue.

How do you get a driving license Bangalore offices issue?
To get a driving license Bangalore offices issue, open Sarathi, choose Karnataka, apply for a learner licence, pass its test and, after at least 30 days of practice, book a driving test at the RTO for your address. The card is printed after the inspector records a pass and the office approves it.

- Choose the state on Sarathi. Open sarathi.parivahan.gov.in and pick Karnataka, Sikkim, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh or Uttar Pradesh.
- Apply for a learner licence. Fill the form, tick each vehicle class, upload age and address proof, photo and signature.
- Pay and pass the learner test. Pay the amount shown and answer the road rules and signs questions.
- Practise for 30 days. Drive with a licensed guide and L plates while the learner licence is valid.
- Book and pass the driving test. Book a slot at the RTO for your address and drive in a vehicle of your class.
Your address decides the office
Bengaluru is split between several RTOs. Sarathi offers only the office linked to the address you enter, so a rented flat in Whitefield and a family home in Rajajinagar lead to different test centres.
The learner window
A learner licence lasts six months. Book the driving test after day 30 and well before the six months run out, or you start again with a fresh learner application.
Which Bengaluru RTO handles your licence?
Nine offices cover Bengaluru city and its suburbs. The core city is split into KA-01 to KA-05 by direction, while KA-41, KA-50, KA-51 and KA-53 serve the western, northern, southern and eastern suburbs. Several offices have moved; HSR Layout, Kasturinagar and JP Nagar replaced older Koramangala, Indiranagar and Jayanagar sites.
| Code | Office | Area covered |
|---|---|---|
| KA-01 | HSR Layout (earlier Koramangala) | Central Bengaluru |
| KA-02 | Rajajinagar | Western Bengaluru |
| KA-03 | Kasturinagar (earlier Indiranagar) | Eastern Bengaluru |
| KA-04 | Yeshwantpur | Northern Bengaluru |
| KA-05 | JP Nagar 9th Phase (earlier Jayanagar) | Southern Bengaluru |
| KA-41 | Jnana Bharathi | Western suburbs |
| KA-50 | Yelahanka | Northern suburbs |
| KA-51 | Electronic City | Southern suburbs |
| KA-53 | Krishnarajapuram | Eastern suburbs and Hoskote taluk |
Old addresses still circulate
Many blogs still send people to Koramangala or Indiranagar. Go by the address on your Sarathi slot, not by a search result. Our RTO Bangalore page lists every Karnataka office code in the district.
Outer taluks
Devanahalli, Nelamangala and Ramanagara have their own offices outside the city list. If your address proof shows one of those taluks, Sarathi routes you there.

How to get driving licence without test?
On how to get driving licence without test: there is no lawful licence with no test at all. What exists is a waiver of the RTO driving test for people who train at an accredited driver training centre and pass that centre’s own test. MoRTH notified these rules on 11 June 2021, and they apply from 1 July 2021.
What the centre must have
Accredited centres need simulators and a dedicated driving test track. They may also run refresher and remedial courses. An ordinary neighbourhood driving school is not automatically accredited, so ask to see the accreditation before paying.
What you still cannot skip
You still need a learner licence, which means the computer test on road rules and signs. Anyone offering a card with no test of any kind for a fee is selling something the law does not allow.

How do you apply for a licence in Sikkim?
You apply for a licence in Sikkim on Sarathi by choosing Sikkim as the state, completing the learner licence form, booking the learner test and taking it at your RTO. At least 30 days later, while the learner licence is under six months old, you apply for the permanent licence and book a driving test. Offline forms are also available at the office.
Hill roads and the test
Sikkim’s main artery is NH 10, running from Siliguri through Rangpo and Singtam to Gangtok. Steep gradients are part of daily driving, so practise hill starts and braking on slopes during the learner period, whatever the test itself asks.
Choosing online or office
The online route lets you upload papers and pay from home. The office route suits applicants without a scanner or Aadhaar-linked mobile number, but it still ends with the same Sarathi record.
Which Sikkim offices and SK codes issue licences?
Eight transport office codes are listed for Sikkim, one or more for each of its six districts: Gangtok, Mangan, Namchi, Pakyong, Gyalshing and Soreng. Namchi district is unusual in having two offices, at Namchi (SK-05) and at Jorethang (SK-04). Singtam carries SK-08, though the list gives no separate jurisdiction for it.

Reading an SK licence number
A licence number has 15 characters: the state code, the two-digit office code, the year of issue and a seven-digit serial. A licence from Gangtok therefore begins with SK01 followed by the year.
Office addresses
We could not verify current street addresses or phone numbers for Sikkim’s offices. Use the office named on your Sarathi slot, or the RTO directory on parivahan.gov.in, before you travel.
Which documents does a Sikkim licence need?
A Sikkim licence application needs proof of age, proof of a Sikkim address, an identity document such as Aadhaar, PAN or voter ID, a passport-size photograph and a fitness declaration. Applicants under 40 sign Form 1; those aged 40 or more, or applying for a transport class, need Form 1A signed by a doctor.

Age proof
A birth certificate is the usual age proof. School certificates and passports are commonly accepted too, but the Sarathi upload screen shows the list your office allows.
For the driving test
Carry the learner licence, the originals of every uploaded document and a roadworthy vehicle of the class you are applying for. Our documents required for driving license guide explains each proof in detail.
What fees are listed for a licence in Sikkim?
ACKO’s Sikkim page, dated 10 June 2026, lists ₹50 for the driving licence test, ₹150 for issuance and ₹200 each for renewal and a duplicate. These match central Rule 32 lines for the learner test and learner licence. Sikkim may add its own charges, so treat the Sarathi payment screen as final.
| Service (as listed for Sikkim) | Amount |
|---|---|
| Driving licence test | ₹50 |
| Driving licence issuance | ₹150 |
| Renewal of driving licence | ₹200 |
| Duplicate licence | ₹200 |
| Addition of a vehicle class | ₹500 |
| International driving licence | ₹1,000 |
Why the list looks low
The ₹150 and ₹50 lines are learner-stage charges. A full licence also carries the ₹300 per class driving test and the ₹200 issue fee, so the real total for one class is higher than any single row suggests.
Paying once
Sarathi accepts payment against an application number only once. If money leaves your account but the receipt does not appear, use the payment status option instead of paying again.
How do you renew a Sikkim licence?
You renew a Sikkim licence on Sarathi by choosing Sikkim, opening the licence services menu, entering your licence number and date of birth, and selecting renewal. Upload Form 1A if you are 40 or older, pay and print the acknowledgement. Renewal can be filed up to one year before or one year after expiry.
Late renewal
The central late line is ₹300 plus ₹1,000 for each year of delay. Leave it longer than a year after expiry and the office can ask for a fresh driving test.
How long a renewed licence lasts
A licence issued between ages 30 and 50 runs for 10 years. For the full national process, see our DL renewal guide.
What does a DL Jharkhand application involve?
A DL Jharkhand application follows the same Sarathi steps with Jharkhand chosen as the state. The state’s transport department sits at Dhurwa, Ranchi, and licences are handled by district transport offices. After the learner licence and 30 days of practice, you take the driving test at the office for your district.
District offices rather than RTOs
Jharkhand uses District Transport Offices, so your DTO handles the learner test, the driving test and renewals. Office titles differ from Karnataka, but the online form is identical.
The state site
The department’s own site, jhtransport.gov.in, carries notices and links. It refused connections from our machine, so confirm any office instruction there or on Sarathi.
Which Jharkhand district offices issue a licence?
Jharkhand has 24 codes, one for each district, from JH-01 Ranchi to JH-24 Ramgarh. The larger offices include JH-05 Jamshedpur, JH-09 Bokaro and JH-10 Dhanbad. Your licence number carries the code of the office that first issued it, even after you move within the state.
Newer districts
Khunti and Ramgarh became districts in September 2007, which is why they hold the last two codes, JH-23 and JH-24.
Moving from Bihar
Jharkhand was carved out of Bihar in November 2000. Licences issued before that with Bihar codes stay valid; update the address when you renew.
How does MP licence apply work online?
An MP licence apply request is made on Sarathi with Madhya Pradesh as the state, and MP links its licence services through MPOnline at sarathi.mponline.gov.in. You fill the learner form, upload documents, pay and take the learner test, then return after 30 days for the driving test at your district RTO.
MPOnline kiosks
Applicants who cannot fill the form at home often use an MPOnline kiosk. The kiosk enters the same Sarathi form; keep the application number and receipt it gives you.
One mobile number
All OTPs and slot messages go to the number you enter first. Use a number linked to your Aadhaar and keep it until the card arrives.
Driving licence MP online apply fees
The driving licence MP online apply fees follow central Rule 32 lines unless the state adds its own charges. We could not read an MP-notified fee schedule, so the table below shows the central amounts that every Sarathi state starts from. The payment screen gives your exact total.

| Fee line | Central amount |
|---|---|
| Learner licence, per class | ₹150 |
| Learner test or repeat test | ₹50 |
| Driving test, per class | ₹300 |
| Issue of driving licence | ₹200 |
| Smart card | ₹200 |
| One class, learner to licence | ₹700 (₹900 with card) |
Two classes on one form
Ticking a motorcycle and a car together adds a second ₹150 and ₹300 line but only one issue fee, which is cheaper than two applications.
Failed tests
A repeat learner test costs another ₹50 and a repeat driving test another ₹300 for that class.
What does MP RTO licence work cover?
MP RTO licence work covers learner licences, driving tests, renewals, duplicates, added classes and address changes. Each district office has its own MP code, for example MP-04 Bhopal, MP-09 Indore, MP-07 Gwalior, MP-13 Ujjain and MP-20 Jabalpur, and that code appears at the start of the licence number it issues.
Which office to visit
Your slot is booked at the office for the address on your proof. If you live in Indore but your Aadhaar shows a Bhopal address, update it first or carry another valid address proof.
Services that stay online
Renewal and duplicates can often be finished with Aadhaar authentication, while new licences and added classes always need a driving test in person.
How does MP driving license renewal work?
MP driving license renewal is filed on Sarathi with Madhya Pradesh chosen. Enter your licence number and date of birth, choose renewal, upload a photo, signature and Form 1A if you are 40 or older, pay and save the acknowledgement. The central renewal fee is ₹200, with the late lines added after the grace window.
When to apply
Apply in the year before expiry. Driving on an expired licence counts as driving without one, and the without licence fine is ₹5,000 under section 181.
Change of address together
If you moved within MP, add change of address in the same application so the renewed card reaches you.
What is printed on the MP driving licence back side?
The MP driving licence back side follows the national card format MoRTH prescribed in 2019. Reports on that format list a QR code linked to Sarathi, the holder’s blood group, an optional organ donor declaration and a note when the holder drives a specially adapted vehicle. Exactly which item sits on which side was not given in the sources we checked.
Reading your own card
Turn your card over and look for the vehicle classes and their validity dates, the issuing office and the QR code. If a class you passed is missing, ask the issuing RTO to correct it.
Older MP cards
Cards issued before the common format may look different. They stay valid until expiry and are replaced with the current design on renewal.
