E challan Karnataka: check and pay traffic fines across the state

By , Editor and reviewer · Updated · 14 min read · Independent guide, not a government website

In short

An e challan Karnataka notice is a digital traffic penalty booked by Bengaluru Traffic Police or the Karnataka State Police, often by camera. Search it by notice number or KA registration on KarnatakaOne (BangaloreOne), the KSP app or BTP ASTraM, then pay by card, UPI or at a centre. The latest 50% concession ran from 21 June to 10 July 2026.

Key takeaways

  • Karnataka police notices are searched by notice number or registration number, not by documents.
  • KarnatakaOne / BangaloreOne takes payment online and at its service centres; parking tags have their own form.
  • The KSP app and BTP ASTraM list pending fines on a vehicle and accept payment on the phone.
  • Karnataka cut several 2019 central amounts, so helmet and seat belt cases cost Rs 500 here.
  • The most recent 50% concession closed on 10 July 2026; none was open on 30 October 2026.
  • Drunk driving and other court cases cannot be cleared on a payment page.

What is e challan Karnataka?

E challan Karnataka is the electronic record of a traffic offence booked anywhere in the state, from a Bengaluru junction to a highway near Mangaluru. It replaces the carbon-copy slip with a notice number tied to the registration, listing the offence, place, time, the amount and often a photograph. Owners can look it up and settle it online.

Notice, not just a slip

In Karnataka the record is usually called a traffic violation notice. That is why the payment pages ask for a “Notice No.” rather than a challan number. The notice and the e-challan are the same thing.

Why it follows the vehicle

Camera cases are booked against the plate, so the registered owner receives the notice even if a friend or family member was driving. The owner then deals with the payment or the dispute.

Who issues traffic e-challans in Karnataka?

Three bodies book most cases. Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) covers the city, the Karnataka State Police (KSP) covers districts and highways through local traffic units, and the Transport Department books permit, tax and fitness cases through RTO inspectors. Each record carries the issuing station or office.

City police versus district police

A notice from Bengaluru names a BTP traffic station. One from Mysuru, Mangaluru or a district town names that city’s or district’s traffic police. Both are visible in the KSP app search.

Transport Department cases

Transport cases, such as running a vehicle without a valid permit, are separate from police notices. Some very old ones, dating back to 1991, were included in the 2026 concession.

How to check vehicle challan online in Karnataka?

For how to check vehicle challan online in Karnataka, open KarnatakaOne, the KSP app or BTP ASTraM, choose search by registration number or notice number, enter it with the captcha and read the list. The result shows each pending notice with its amount, and you can pay straight from the same screen.

Five steps to run an e challan Karnataka check by vehicle or notice number
The same plate search works for Bengaluru and district police notices.
  1. Pick a channel. Open KarnatakaOne, the KSP app or BTP ASTraM yourself, not through an SMS link.
  2. Choose the search type. Select search by notice number or by registration number.
  3. Enter the details. Type the KA number or notice number exactly and fill in the captcha.
  4. Read every notice. Check the offence, date, place and photo on each pending entry.
  5. Pay and keep proof. Pay by card, UPI or net banking and save the receipt number.

Typing the plate correctly

Enter the registration as one block, for example KA followed by the RTO code, series and digits, with no spaces or hyphens. A missing zero in the RTO code is the most common reason for an empty result.

Searching by notice number

The notice number from an SMS or printed slip gives a single exact match. Use it when the plate search shows many entries and you want to settle one in particular.

Which Karnataka online challan portals can you use?

A Karnataka online challan can be paid on four official routes: the KarnatakaOne (BangaloreOne) website, the BTP website, which redirects to KarnatakaOne, the KSP app and the BTP ASTraM app. All read the same police records, so a notice paid on one route should clear on the others.

Which one to start with

For a Bengaluru notice, the BTP site or ASTraM is the natural start. For a notice from a district town, the KSP app is simpler because it covers police units across the state.

What the national portal adds

The MoRTH e-Challan portal at echallan.parivahan.gov.in is worth a second search, especially for highway or out-of-state cases. Our e challan hub explains how that national system works.

How does Bangalore One challan payment work?

Bangalore One challan payment runs on the KarnatakaOne website and at BangaloreOne centres. Online, go to Online Services, choose Police, then Pay Traffic Violation Fine and Avail Online. Search by notice or registration number, accept the terms, pick a payment mode, enter a mobile number and continue to payment.

Details the form asks for

Besides the notice or plate number and captcha, the form may show the licence details and RC holder name linked to the notice. Check that these match your vehicle before paying.

Quick Pay without an account

Guides describe a Quick Pay option under Sign In, so you can settle a notice without creating a login. Use a mobile number you can access, since the confirmation is sent there.

How do you pay a parking violation tag online?

A parking violation tag is the paper tag a traffic officer fixes to a parked vehicle. KarnatakaOne has a separate option for it: enter the tag serial number, registration number, violation type, date, time, place, station code and the amount printed on the tag, then complete the captcha and pay.

Copy the tag exactly

Every field on this form comes from the tag itself. Photograph it before removing it from the windscreen, because a wrong station code or time can stop the payment from matching.

When the vehicle was towed

Towing adds a separate charge on top of the fine. Since towing resumed in Bengaluru in 2026, a towed car’s no-parking case has cost Rs 2,000 in all; see our bangalore traffic fines guide for the split.

Can you pay through the KSP app or BTP ASTraM?

Yes. The Karnataka State Police app lets you enter a vehicle number, see pending fines and pay them, and BTP ASTraM does the same for Bengaluru notices while also offering live congestion updates. Both were listed as payment routes during the 2026 concession window.

Reporting through ASTraM

ASTraM also took over photo and video reporting of violations in March 2025, when BTP stopped monitoring the older PublicEye app.

Install only from the store

Download either app from the official Play Store or App Store listing. Never install an app from an APK file sent by SMS or WhatsApp.

How do Paytm and UPI payments work for Karnataka e-challans?

The BTP payment section links to Paytm, where guides describe the path Bill Payments, Traffic Challan, then Bangalore Traffic Police. Enter the vehicle number, check the listed notices and pay. A confirmation SMS goes to the registered mobile number. UPI also works inside the official apps.

UPI at the roadside

Since December 2024, police handheld devices in Mangaluru accept UPI apps such as Google Pay and PhonePe, with a statewide rollout announced. Ask for the receipt on the spot.

Check the biller name

In any third-party app, confirm that the biller is the traffic police and that the notice number and amount match the official record.

Where can you pay a fine offline in Karnataka?

Offline, take the printed notice to any traffic police station in Bengaluru, a BangaloreOne or KarnatakaOne centre, or the Traffic Management Centre. During concession windows, special counters were also opened at stations. Counter staff look up the notice by number and give a receipt.

Centres outside Bengaluru

Mysuru and Mangaluru have their own One centres. Older reports mention a small service charge at Mysore One counters, so ask before you pay.

What to carry

Bring the notice or its number, the vehicle number and a phone for the SMS confirmation. A copy of the RC helps if the clerk needs to confirm ownership.

What does the BTP fines list include?

The BTP fines list is the set of compounding amounts Bengaluru Traffic Police charge for each offence. Karnataka notified its own figures in 2019, so several are lower than the central maximums. The table shows common cases; the amount printed on your notice is the one you pay.

Repeat offences

Where no specific penalty exists, Karnataka charges Rs 500 for a first offence and Rs 1,000 for a second, against the central Rs 1,500 for a repeat.

The calculator shows central 2019 penalties. Karnataka’s notified amounts can be lower, as the table above shows.

Which offences cannot be settled online in Karnataka?

Offences that need a magistrate cannot be closed on KarnatakaOne or the apps. Drunk driving is the clearest example: police seize the licence and file the case in court. Racing and serious wrong-side driving on highways, booked with an FIR since August 2024, also go to court.

Signs a case is with the court

The pay button is missing, or the status names a court. At that stage the police payment pages cannot accept money for that notice.

Lok Adalat settlements

Pending court traffic cases are sometimes settled at a Lok Adalat sitting. Our lok adalat challan guide explains how those notices work.

What is the traffic fine discount last date?

The traffic fine discount last date for the most recent Karnataka window was 10 July 2026. That concession began on 21 June 2026 and offered 50% off traffic e-challans registered before May 2026. As of 30 October 2026, no newer window had been announced, so full amounts apply.

Why there is no fixed annual date

Each window is announced by a government order with its own start and end dates. Some were extended after launch, and none has repeated on the same dates.

Where the next date will appear

Look for announcements by the Transport Department, BTP and KSP, and confirm on the official apps. A discount that only appears in a forwarded message is not reliable.

Which concession windows has Karnataka run so far?

Karnataka has run several 50% concession windows since 2023. Each was time-bound, and most covered only notices registered before a cut-off date. The table lists the windows reported in the news.

How many cases were cleared

Between 21 June and 8 July 2026, 8,82,290 pending e-challans were settled. In 2023, more than 52 lakh cases were cleared across the state.

What this means for new notices

A notice issued after a window’s cut-off date was not covered, even if the window was still open.

Who qualifies for the 50% concession on old e-challans?

Eligibility is set by each order. In general, pending police e-challans registered before the cut-off date qualify, while serious offences such as drunk driving were excluded in the 2025 windows. The 2026 order also brought in old Transport Department cases from 1991 to 2022.

Notices that already went to court

A case with a magistrate usually falls outside a police concession. Settle those through the court or a Lok Adalat.

Notices already paid

There is no refund of half the amount if you paid in full before a window opened.

How do you claim the concession on a Karnataka online challan?

To claim the concession on a Karnataka online challan, search the vehicle during the window on KarnatakaOne, the KSP app or BTP ASTraM. Eligible notices show the reduced amount automatically, so no application is needed. Pay, then save the receipt showing the concession.

Which channels accept payment during a concession?

In 2026 the KSP app, BTP ASTraM, traffic police stations, special counters and Karnataka One centres all accepted payment. In 2023, Paytm and the BTP website were also listed.

Pay early in the window

Collections peak in the last few days, and apps slow down. Paying in the first week avoids timeouts and double-debit problems.

What happens if a Karnataka notice stays unpaid?

An unpaid notice stays on the vehicle record and can be sent to court. Guides advise paying within 60 days. Bengaluru police also run drives against vehicles with large dues: in February 2024 they targeted 2,681 vehicles with dues above Rs 50,000 each.

Effect on RTO work

Pending cases can hold up transport office services. Before a sale, clear them so the buyer’s form 29 and 30 transfer is not delayed.

Notices pile up quickly

Cameras record most violations in Bengaluru, so a regular route can collect dozens of notices before the owner notices. One scooter had more than 300 recorded cases.

How do camera notices reach KA vehicle owners?

Most cases in Bengaluru are now caught by ANPR and red-light cameras or by officers using the Digitab device app, not at a roadside stop. The system matches the plate to the registration record and sends an SMS to the mobile number linked to the RC.

When the SMS never arrives

If the mobile number on the RC is old, alerts go nowhere. Search your plate regularly rather than relying on SMS alone.

What the photo shows

Camera notices carry an image of the vehicle and plate. Compare the make, colour and plate before paying.

Can a KA vehicle get a challan in another state?

Yes. A KA-registered vehicle driven in Tamil Nadu, Goa or elsewhere can be booked by that state’s police. Those cases sit with the state that booked them, so a Karnataka search may not show them. Check the national e-Challan portal by plate for out-of-state cases.

Pay the state that booked you

A notice from another state is paid on that state’s system or the national portal, not on KarnatakaOne.

Vehicles from other states in Karnataka

The reverse applies too: a vehicle from another state booked in Bengaluru is paid on the Karnataka channels.

What if the notice shows the wrong vehicle?

If the photo shows a different make, colour or plate, do not pay. Raise a complaint with the traffic station named on the notice, attaching your RC copy and a clear photo of your own vehicle. A mismatch can mean a misread plate or a cloned number.

Common Bangalore One challan payment errors and how to fix each one
Most problems are timing or the wrong search field.

Gather evidence

Note the date and time on the notice and anything that proves where your vehicle was then, such as a parking receipt or a FASTag entry elsewhere.

Cloned plates

If notices keep arriving for places you never visited, report a possible cloned plate to the police. A high security plate makes cloning harder.

Why does a paid notice still show pending?

A payment can take a day or two to update across systems, especially at the end of a concession window. Keep the receipt and transaction reference. If the status has not changed after a few working days, contact the traffic police with the receipt.

Money debited, no receipt

Check your bank statement for the reference. Most failed payments are reversed automatically within a few working days; do not pay again until you know the first one failed.

Contact the channel you used, with both references, to ask about a refund.

How to spot a fake e challan Karnataka message?

A fake e challan Karnataka SMS usually has a short link, asks you to install an app or demands quick payment to avoid arrest. Genuine notices can always be found by searching your plate on official channels yourself. Our challan message guide shows what a real SMS looks like.

Do's and don'ts for checking an e challan Karnataka SMS before paying
A genuine notice always shows up when you search it yourself.

Ordinary traffic notices are not paid through the khajane 2 challan treasury system, so a message sending you there for a traffic fine is suspect.

If you were cheated

Call the cyber fraud helpline 1930 or report it at cybercrime.gov.in as soon as possible.

How do Mysuru and Mangaluru handle traffic notices?

Outside Bengaluru, city police run their own camera networks. Mysuru has ITMS cameras at junctions such as Dodda Gadiyara and Kuvempu Nagar, and Mangaluru cleared 35,160 pending cases in the 2026 concession. Both cities’ notices show in the KSP app.

Paying in Mysuru

Mysore One centres accept traffic fines at the counter. Online, use the KSP app or KarnatakaOne.

Paying in Mangaluru

Older reports list Kadri Traffic Police Station and Mangalore One centres as counters, along with UPI on police devices.

Should you check challans before buying a used KA vehicle?

Yes. Run a plate search on the KSP app and KarnatakaOne before you pay for a used vehicle, and ask the seller to clear every pending notice. Camera cases stay with the vehicle, so an unchecked backlog can become the new owner’s problem.

Put it in writing

Ask for receipts for every cleared notice and note in the sale letter that the seller is liable for any offence before the sale date.

Search again after transfer

Search once more after the registration changes hands, so any late notice from before the sale is caught early.

E challan karnataka questions

Is checking an e challan Karnataka notice free?

Yes. Searching on KarnatakaOne, the KSP app or BTP ASTraM costs nothing. You only pay the fine itself.

Can I pay a Bangalore One challan without the notice number?

Yes. Choose search by registration number and enter your full KA plate. Every pending notice on that vehicle is listed.

How long do I have to pay a Karnataka traffic notice?

Consumer guides advise paying within 60 days of issue. Read the notice itself, because a case can move to court if it stays unpaid.

Is a traffic fine discount open in Karnataka now?

Not as of 30 October 2026. The last window ran from 21 June to 10 July 2026. Watch Transport Department and police announcements for the next one.

Does the 50% concession cover drunk driving?

No. Serious cases such as drunk driving were left out of the 2025 windows, and they go to court rather than a payment page.

Can I pay a Karnataka notice through Paytm?

Guides describe a Traffic Challan option in Paytm with Bangalore Traffic Police as the biller. Check the amount against the official notice before you pay.

My vehicle is registered outside Karnataka. Can I still pay?

Yes. Search by your full registration number on KarnatakaOne or the KSP app; the notice is tied to where the offence happened, not where the vehicle is registered.

Why does my Karnataka notice still show pending after payment?

Bank confirmations can take a day or two. Keep the receipt and transaction number and contact the traffic police if the status does not change.

Is Khajane 2 used for traffic fines?

Not for ordinary traffic notices. Khajane 2 is the state treasury receipt system used for many department payments.
