Traffic fines in India: how to check, pay and contest them
Traffic fines in India are penalties under the Motor Vehicles Act, issued by traffic police officers or cameras. Check them on the national e-Challan portal or your state police site by vehicle number, challan number or licence number. Pay pending fines online by UPI, card or net banking. Karnataka and West Bengal run their own police systems, and unpaid cases move to a court.
Key takeaways
- Search traffic fines by vehicle number on echallan.parivahan.gov.in or your state police's official site.
- Central amounts come from the MV (Amendment) Act, 2019; states such as Karnataka notified lower amounts for some offences.
- Bengaluru fines can be paid on the BTP website, ASTraM app or KarnatakaOne, and at police stations.
- Kolkata uses the Kolkata Traffic Police system; the rest of West Bengal pays through WB Traffic Police / GRIPS.
- Red-light jumping and wrong-side driving are usually booked as dangerous driving, which carries a higher fine.
- Unpaid fines go to a virtual or regular court, where the magistrate sets the amount.

What are traffic fines and who sets them?
Traffic fines are money penalties for breaking road rules, recorded today mostly as electronic challans. Parliament sets the maximum amounts in the Motor Vehicles Act, and each state can notify the exact compounding amount its police collect, so the same offence can cost different sums in Bengaluru and Kolkata.

The central law
The Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019 raised most penalties from 1 September 2019. It also lets the government raise them by up to 10% a year, so always read the amount printed on your own challan.
The state’s role
States decide which officers can compound an offence and for how much. Karnataka, for instance, cut several amounts within weeks of the 2019 Act. Our e challan guide explains how the national system records them.
How to find traffic fines on your vehicle?
To find traffic fines on a vehicle, search its registration number on an official portal. The national e-Challan site covers most states, while some cities, such as Bengaluru and Kolkata, also keep their own police systems. Searching both is the safest way to see every pending case.
National search first
Most police forces upload challans to the NIC system, so a single vehicle number search shows offences from many states together. It is free and needs no login.
City systems second
If you drive in a large city, repeat the search on that city’s traffic police site. A fine can sit in the local system for a while before it appears nationally.
How to check challan on vehicle in a few minutes?
Here is the quickest way to check challan on vehicle records. Keep your RC handy, because the portal asks for a few digits of the chassis or engine number to confirm you own the vehicle.
- Choose an official site. Use echallan.parivahan.gov.in or your state or city traffic police website.
- Enter your vehicle number. Add the chassis or engine digits if the portal asks for them.
- Read every entry. Check the offence, date, place, photo and amount for each fine.
- Pay pending fines. Select the fines, pay by UPI, card or net banking and save the receipt.
- Act on court cases. Fines marked as court cases are settled through the virtual court instead.
Typing the number correctly
Enter the plate without spaces or dashes, for example the state code, district code, series and number together. A wrong letter returns someone else’s record or nothing at all.
On a phone
Every portal named here works in a mobile browser. The official mParivahan app also has a challan option for owners who prefer an app.
How to know challan on vehicle without the challan number?
You do not need the challan number to know challan on vehicle records. A search by registration number lists every case against that plate, and a search by driving licence number lists cases booked against you as a driver, whichever vehicle you were using.
When to use the licence search
Use it if you often drive vehicles you do not own, such as a family car or a company vehicle. Fines booked on the spot by an officer are often tied to the licence.
When the plate search is better
Camera fines are booked against the plate, not the driver. For red-light or speed cameras, the vehicle search is the one that finds them.
How to find fine on my vehicle after buying it used?
If you ask “how to find fine on my vehicle that I just bought”, the answer is the same vehicle search, but timing matters. Pending fines follow the plate, so check before you pay the seller and settle them before the RC transfer.
Before you buy
Ask the seller for the registration number and run the search yourself. Agree in writing who pays anything that appears, and keep the receipts with the sale papers.
After the transfer
Fines dated before the sale are the old owner’s responsibility under most sale agreements. Keep the delivery note with the date and time to prove when the vehicle changed hands.
How to check vehicle fine details line by line?
To check vehicle fine details, open each challan rather than reading only the total. Every entry shows an offence code, the Act section, date, time, location, the issuing officer or camera, the amount and a status. Each field helps you decide whether to pay or contest.
| Field | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Challan number | Matches the SMS or notice you received |
| Offence and section | The rule you are said to have broken |
| Date, time and place | Whether you or your vehicle were there |
| Evidence | Photo or video from a camera or officer device |
| Status | Pending (pay online), paid, or sent to court |
The status column
Pending means you can still pay online. Court or virtual court means the police can no longer accept the money, and the court decides the amount.
The evidence tab
Look at the plate in the photo before paying. Cloned or misread plates do happen, and the picture is your best proof.
Fine check: which websites can you trust?
For a safe fine check, use only sites ending in .gov.in, the national e-Challan portal, or a state police site linked from it. Fake sites copy the look of police pages and send SMS links to them, so type the address yourself rather than tapping a link.
Signs of a fake site
The address uses an unfamiliar domain, the page asks for card details before showing any challan, or it pressures you with a short deadline. Real portals show the challan first.
Private apps
Some payment and car-service apps show challans too. They draw on the same records but are not official, so treat their data as a reminder and confirm it on the government site.

Bike challan check: what should two-wheeler owners know?
A bike challan check works like any vehicle search, but two-wheeler riders tend to collect different fines: helmet, pillion helmet, triple riding and mobile phone use. Many of these come from city cameras, so riders often learn about them only through an SMS weeks later.
Helmet cases
Cameras at junctions photograph the rider and pillion. If either is without a helmet, the challan names the offence, and both counts can appear separately.
Bikes in the family
Because fines follow the plate, a bike ridden by a son or brother still sends the challan to the owner. Check regularly so small fines do not pile up.
What do the traffic police do and what powers do they have?
The traffic police are a wing of the state or city police that manage traffic, enforce road rules and investigate accidents. Under the MV Act and state rules, authorised officers can stop vehicles, check documents, issue challans, collect compounding amounts and, for serious offences, seize vehicles or forward licences for suspension.
Who can collect a fine
States notify which ranks can compound offences. In Bengaluru, for example, spot fines are collected by officers of the rank of Assistant Sub-Inspector or above, usually with a handheld device that prints or sends a receipt.
What you can ask for
You can ask to see the officer’s identity and the device receipt. Pay only against a receipt or an electronic challan, never in private.
Police fine or court fine: what is the difference?
A police fine is the compounding amount you pay directly to the traffic police while the challan is pending. A court fine is decided by a magistrate once the case has gone to court, because it was unpaid, contested, or too serious for the police to settle themselves.
Offences the police can settle
Most everyday offences, such as no helmet, no seat belt or a wrong-parking ticket, can be compounded by paying the notified amount online or at a counter.
Offences that need a court
Drunk driving and repeat dangerous driving usually go before a court, because the Act allows jail terms as well as money penalties. The court can set a higher or lower figure than the police schedule.
What is a traffic notice and how should you respond?
A traffic notice is the message telling the owner that a violation was recorded, by SMS, post, email or a printed slip. It carries a notice or challan number, the offence and the amount. Verify it on an official site, then pay or contest it before the due date it gives.

Notices by post
Some cities still post a printed notice with a photo to the registered address. Keep it, because the notice number on it works on the city’s payment site.
When the notice is wrong
If the photo shows another vehicle or the date makes no sense, raise a grievance with the issuing police and attach your proof instead of paying.
Where can I pay traffic fines?
You can pay traffic fines on the national e-Challan portal, your state or city police website or app, government service centres such as KarnatakaOne, police stations and traffic counters. In many cities, an officer carrying a card machine can also take the payment on the spot and issue a receipt.
Online routes
UPI, debit and credit cards, and net banking are accepted on the government portals. A receipt or transaction ID appears once the payment is confirmed.
Court cases
If the challan shows a court status, the online police payment is closed. Use the virtual court portal for your state, or appear in court if summoned.
Where to pay traffic challan offline?
If you ask where to pay traffic challan in person, start at the traffic police station that covers the area of the offence. Cities also run central counters: Bengaluru has its Traffic Management Centre and BangaloreOne centres, and Kolkata accepts payment at Kolkata Traffic Police headquarters.
What to carry
Take the notice or challan number, the vehicle’s RC and your licence. Without a number, the counter can still look the case up by registration.
Paying at a court
Once a case reaches court, pay at the court’s counter on the date given in the summons, or through the virtual court if your state offers it.
How to pay a speeding ticket?
To pay a speeding ticket, find it by vehicle number, check the photo and recorded speed, then pay online while the status is pending. Speed cameras and interceptor vehicles send the challan to the owner, so the notice can arrive days after the drive.

Check the speed limit first
The challan should show the recorded speed and the limit for that stretch. If the limit board was missing, mention it in your grievance.
Repeat offences
The Act treats repeated speeding more seriously, and some states can forward repeat cases for licence action. Paying quickly does not erase the record of the offence.
Overspeeding challan: how much does it cost?
An overspeeding challan under section 183 carries ₹1,000 to ₹2,000 for a light motor vehicle and ₹2,000 to ₹4,000 for medium passenger or goods vehicles, under the central Act. States may notify a fixed figure inside that range, so the amount on your notice is the one that applies.
| Vehicle type | Central penalty for over-speeding |
|---|---|
| Light motor vehicle (car, two-wheeler) | ₹1,000 to ₹2,000 |
| Medium passenger or goods vehicle | ₹2,000 to ₹4,000 |
Racing is different
Racing or speed trials on public roads fall under a separate section with a higher penalty, and they usually need a court.
Highway cameras
Expressways often use average-speed cameras. The challan may list both entry and exit points, with the average speed between them.
Red light jump challan: what is the penalty?
A red light jump challan is usually booked as dangerous driving under section 184, which allows ₹1,000 to ₹5,000 for a first offence, plus possible licence action. Some states book a minor signal breach under the general road-regulation sections instead, which carry a smaller amount.
Why the amount varies
The section the officer or camera system chooses decides the penalty. Read the section number on the challan to see which one was used.
Second offences
A repeat dangerous-driving offence within three years can bring up to ₹10,000 and a court case. Our guide to traffic light rules explains what each signal phase means.
Fine for signal jump: does a camera catch it?
Yes. The fine for signal jump is now mostly issued by cameras linked to the signal controller, which photograph any vehicle crossing the stop line after the light turns red. The challan includes the image, time and junction, and the amount follows your state’s notified figure for that section.
Stop-line crossing
Stopping beyond the white line while the light is red can also be recorded, even if you did not cross the junction. Stop behind the line, not on it.
Amber light
Crossing on amber is not an offence in itself, but cameras log the exact moment. If the frame shows red, the challan stands.
Wrong side challan: why is it dangerous driving?
A wrong side challan is issued when a vehicle drives against the flow of traffic, including on one-way streets and service roads. Police treat it as dangerous driving under section 184 because head-on collisions are often fatal, so the amount is the same range as other dangerous-driving cases.
Short cuts count
Driving a few metres the wrong way to reach a U-turn still counts. Cameras on flyover ramps and service lanes are placed for exactly this.
Detailed offence list
For a section-by-section breakdown of other offences, see our page on traffic violation fines.
Which traffic fines are most common under the 2019 Act?
The traffic fines most people receive are for speeding, signal jumping, no helmet or seat belt, no insurance and general rule breaches. The table lists the central amounts for these. Remember that your state’s notified figure, not the central limit, is what appears on the challan.

| Offence | Section | Central penalty |
|---|---|---|
| General offence, first time | 177 | ₹500 |
| General offence, repeat | 177 | ₹1,500 |
| Over-speeding, light vehicle | 183 | ₹1,000 to ₹2,000 |
| Dangerous driving (red light, wrong side) | 184 | ₹1,000 to ₹5,000 |
| Drunk driving, first offence | 185 | Up to ₹10,000 and/or jail |
| No licence | 181 | Up to ₹5,000 |
| No insurance, first offence | 196 | ₹2,000 and/or jail |
| Offence by a juvenile | 199A | ₹25,000 and jail for guardian |
Annual revision
The Act allows a yearly increase of up to 10%, so amounts can change between years.
Where to look for your state
Check your state transport department or police website for the compounding schedule.
Karnataka traffic fines: what changed in 2019?
Karnataka traffic fines were revised by a state notification in September 2019, soon after the central Act took effect. The state lowered several amounts, including helmet and seat belt fines, while keeping the full central figures for serious offences such as drunk driving and racing.

| Offence | Karnataka amount |
|---|---|
| No helmet | ₹500 |
| No seat belt | ₹500 |
| No licence, two- or three-wheeler | ₹1,000 |
| No licence, four-wheeler | ₹2,000 |
| No insurance, two-wheeler | ₹1,000 |
| No insurance, four-wheeler | ₹2,000 |
| No insurance, heavy goods vehicle | ₹4,000 |
| Disobeying orders (section 179) | ₹1,000 |
What stayed the same
Drunk driving stays at the central ₹10,000 for a first offence, and racing stays at ₹5,000.
Confirm before paying
These figures come from news reports of the 2019 notification. Later revisions are possible, so check the BTP site.
Karnataka traffic fine check: how does it work?
A Karnataka traffic fine check depends on where the fine was issued. Bengaluru city cases sit in the Bengaluru Traffic Police system, while fines from other districts are issued by Karnataka State Police units and the transport department. Searching the national portal and the city system together covers both.
Districts outside Bengaluru
Mysuru, Mangaluru, Hubballi-Dharwad and other cities have their own police commissionerates. Their cases generally appear on the national portal and in the Karnataka State Police app.
Transport department cases
RTO officers also book offences such as overloading or missing permits. These are handled through the transport department, not the traffic police site.
Karnataka fine check: what details do you need?
For a Karnataka fine check, you need only the registration number in most cases. The KarnatakaOne portal also accepts a notice number, and asks for a captcha and a mobile number before showing the amount and moving you to payment.
Notice number or registration
The notice number finds one case; the registration number finds all of them. Use the second if you are not sure how many fines you have.
Mobile number
The number you enter receives the payment confirmation. It does not have to be the one on the RC.
Karnataka traffic challan: what does the notice show?
A Karnataka traffic challan notice shows the notice number, the vehicle number, the offence, the place, the date and time, the amount and usually a camera photo. Bengaluru notices are generated by the city’s enforcement cameras and officers’ handheld devices.
Older cases
A Karnataka traffic challan check can turn up cases that are several years old. The 2025 concession windows were aimed at exactly this backlog, including offences dating back to 1991-92.
Multiple notices for one trip
One drive past several cameras can produce several notices. Each is a separate case with its own number.
Vehicle fine check online Karnataka: which portals work?
For a vehicle fine check online Karnataka residents can use four channels: the Bengaluru Traffic Police website, the BTP ASTraM app, the KarnatakaOne portal and the national e-Challan portal. Payment apps such as Paytm also show Bengaluru fines, though they are not government services.
| Channel | Search by | Pay here? |
|---|---|---|
| BTP website | Vehicle number | Yes, via linked payment pages |
| BTP ASTraM app | Vehicle number | Yes |
| KarnatakaOne | Notice or registration number | Yes |
| National e-Challan | Vehicle, challan or DL number | Yes, for cases uploaded there |
| Police station or Traffic Management Centre | Vehicle or notice number | Yes, in person |
Which to try first
For city fines, start with the BTP site or app. For anything issued outside Bengaluru, start with the national portal.
Keeping receipts
Different channels issue different receipt formats. Save a screenshot as well as any PDF.
Bangalore traffic fine check: how do you do it?
A Bangalore traffic fine check takes a minute on the Bengaluru Traffic Police website or ASTraM app: enter the registration number and the list of pending violations appears with amounts. For a fuller guide to the city’s rules and amounts, see our Bangalore traffic fines page.

Searching by registration
Type the full registration number, including the state code KA and the district code. The site lists each violation separately.
Searching parking tags
Parking violations carry a tag number. KarnatakaOne has a separate option to pay a fine against that tag.
How to check traffic violation in Bangalore?
To check traffic violation in Bangalore, open the BTP site or ASTraM app, choose the fine search, enter the vehicle number and read the list. Each violation shows the junction, date and time, so you can match it to your own trip before paying.
Matching the time
If the time shows when the vehicle was parked at home, look closely at the photo. A mismatch is a reason to complain, not to pay.
Violations for out-of-state vehicles
Vehicles registered in other states but driven in Bengaluru also receive BTP notices. Search with the full registration number from that state.
Bangalore traffic fines check with photo: can you see the evidence?
Yes, in most cases. A Bangalore traffic fines check with photo works because camera-based violations are stored with the image that triggered them. When you open a violation on the BTP site or app, the picture shows the vehicle, the plate and often the signal or lane marking.
What the photo proves
It shows whether the plate is yours, whether a helmet or seat belt was missing, and the junction. Download it if you plan to contest the fine.
When there is no photo
Spot fines booked by an officer on a handheld device may not carry a photo. The officer’s details then serve as the record.
Bangalore traffic police fine app: which one is official?
The Bangalore traffic police fine app is BTP ASTraM, published by the Bengaluru Traffic Police. It shows pending violations by vehicle number and lets you pay them. The Karnataka State Police app is also official and covers police services more widely.
Avoid look-alike apps
Search results include many private challan apps. Check that the publisher is the Bengaluru Traffic Police or Karnataka State Police before installing.
Other features
ASTraM also carries traffic updates and the option to report violations. Fines remain payable on the website if the app does not work for you.
Traffic fines online checking Bangalore: what are the steps?
Traffic fines online checking Bangalore follows four steps: open an official channel, enter the registration or notice number, open each violation to check the photo and details, then pay and save the receipt. The same steps work on the BTP site, the ASTraM app and KarnatakaOne.
Step tips
Clear the captcha slowly, since a wrong entry resets the search. If many fines appear, pay the oldest first so they do not reach court.
After paying
The status may take a little time to update. Search again the next day and keep the transaction ID until it shows as paid.
How to pay traffic fine online Bangalore?
To pay traffic fine online Bangalore owners can use the BTP site, the ASTraM app or KarnatakaOne. On KarnatakaOne, open Online Services, then Police, choose Pay Traffic Violation Fine, enter the notice or registration number, add the captcha and mobile number, and continue to payment.
Payment methods
The government channels accept the usual online methods, including cards and net banking. The page shows the accepted options before you confirm.
Paying through Paytm
Paytm lists Bengaluru Traffic Police under its challan payments. It is convenient, but keep the receipt in case the BTP record does not update.
Bangalore traffic police fine payment at counters
Bangalore traffic police fine payment in person is possible at any traffic police station, the Traffic Management Centre and BangaloreOne centres. Carry the notice or registration number. Counter staff search the same database as the website, so the amount is identical.
At police stations
Any traffic police station in the city can accept payment, not only the one where the violation happened.
Spot payment
Officers can collect the fine on the spot with a device that records the payment. Ask for the receipt every time.
Bangalore one traffic fine: how do the centres work?
A Bangalore one traffic fine payment is made at a BangaloreOne centre, a government citizen-service counter that also handles utility bills and certificates. Give the notice or vehicle number at the police desk, pay the amount shown, and collect the printed receipt.
Online version
BangaloreOne’s services now run through the KarnatakaOne portal, so the same fine can be paid online with Quick Pay without visiting a centre.
When centres help most
Centres suit owners who prefer cash or need help reading a long list of notices.
Bangalore traffic challan: what if you disagree?
If a Bangalore traffic challan looks wrong, do not pay it straight away. Download the photo, note the notice number and raise a complaint with the Bengaluru Traffic Police through their official channels, or visit the traffic police station for that area with your evidence.
Good evidence
Useful proof includes a fuel or toll receipt showing the vehicle elsewhere, a service invoice, or a photo of your own plate if the camera misread it.
If it has gone to court
A disputed case that reaches court is decided by the magistrate. Bring the same evidence to the hearing.
Bangalore traffic police fine: are discounts ever offered?
Yes, from time to time. The Karnataka government has offered a 50% concession on pending Bangalore traffic police fine amounts in limited windows, including 23 August to 12 September 2025 and 21 November to 12 December 2025. Serious offences such as drunk driving were excluded.
How the scheme works
The discount applies only to fines paid inside the announced window, through the listed channels such as BTP, ASTraM and KarnatakaOne.
Do not wait for one
There is no fixed calendar for these schemes, and unpaid fines can go to court in the meantime.
Kolkata police traffic fine: how do you check it?
To check a Kolkata police traffic fine, search the vehicle number on the Kolkata Traffic Police website or the national e-Challan portal. Kolkata Traffic Police, part of Kolkata Police, run their own system for the city, so a fine booked in the city may appear there first.
City limits matter
Fines inside Kolkata Police jurisdiction belong to Kolkata Traffic Police. Areas such as Salt Lake, New Town and Howrah fall under other commissionerates.
Bondhu app
Kolkata Police run a citizen app called Bondhu for police services. Use the official store listing to install it.
Kolkata traffic police challan: how do you pay online?
A Kolkata traffic police challan can be paid online through the payment option on the Kolkata Traffic Police website, or on the national e-Challan portal if the case is listed there. Enter the challan or vehicle number, select the case and choose your payment mode.

Confirm the domain
Guides list more than one address for the Kolkata Traffic Police site. Reach it from Kolkata Police’s official pages rather than from an SMS link.
Save the receipt
Keep the transaction reference. If the status still shows unpaid after a few days, the receipt is your proof.
Kolkata police challan: where can you pay offline?
A Kolkata police challan can be paid offline at Kolkata Traffic Police headquarters, at a traffic guard office, or to an on-duty officer who carries a card-swipe machine. Guides also mention sending a demand draft, cheque or pay order to headquarters by courier.
Traffic guards
Kolkata’s traffic guards are local traffic police offices spread across the city. The one near the place of the offence is usually the easiest to reach.
Courier payments
If you post a payment, write the challan number and vehicle number on the back and keep the courier slip.
Kolkata traffic fine: which amounts apply?
A Kolkata traffic fine follows the central Act unless West Bengal has notified its own amount for that offence. The challan shows the figure that applies to you. Treat third-party tables of Kolkata amounts with caution, because many still show figures from before the 2019 Act.
Checking the section
Look up the section printed on the challan in the central table above. If your amount is lower, a state notification applies.
Serious offences
Drunk driving and dangerous driving cases in Kolkata can go to court, where the magistrate sets the final amount.
Kolkata traffic challan: what if it is in court?
A Kolkata traffic challan that shows a court status can no longer be paid on the police payment page. Open the virtual court portal and choose West Bengal, or follow the summons, which names the court and the date.
Virtual court payment
Search by challan or vehicle number on the virtual court site, read the amount the court has set and pay it online.
Missed dates
If you miss a hearing, contact the court named on the summons. Do not ignore it, as further steps can follow.
WB traffic challan: how does it work outside Kolkata?
A WB traffic challan issued outside Kolkata city comes from the West Bengal Traffic Police or a district police unit. Its official site, wbtrafficpolice.com, has an online fine payment option and a link to the national e-Challan portal.
District and highway cases
Fines on national and state highways in West Bengal are usually booked by district traffic units. Search the vehicle number on the national portal first.
Echallan WB
People who search echallan WB usually want the national portal filtered to West Bengal. The WB Traffic Police site links to it from its home page.
E challan payment West Bengal: what is GRIPS?
For e challan payment West Bengal outside Kolkata, the WB Traffic Police site sends you to GRIPS, the state finance department’s government receipt portal. It takes the fine like any other government payment and issues a GRN that you use to check the receipt later.
Using the GRN
Note the GRN shown after payment. The WB Traffic Police site has a receipt check page where you enter it.
GRIPS for other payments
GRIPS also collects many non-traffic government fees. Pick the traffic fine option, not a tax head, when you pay.
What happens if traffic fines are not paid?
Unpaid traffic fines move from the police system to a virtual court or regular court after the time the state allows. The court can set its own amount, issue summons and, for repeat cases, order further action. Pending challans can also block RTO services for the vehicle.

RTO services held back
Pending challans can stop an RC transfer, a hypothecation change or other work at the RTO. Our Vahan guide explains how the vehicle record is linked.
Paying late
Even after a case reaches court, paying promptly through the virtual court closes it. Our traffic signs guide helps avoid the next one.

How do I find traffic fines if I lost the SMS?
Search by vehicle number on the e-Challan portal or your state police site. The SMS only carries the challan number; the record itself stays online.
Are traffic fines the same in every state?
No. The central Act sets the limits, and states may notify their own compounding amounts. Karnataka, for example, lowered the helmet and seat belt fine to ₹500 in 2019.
Can I pay a Bangalore fine from another city?
Yes. The BTP website, ASTraM app and KarnatakaOne all work online, so you can pay from anywhere with the registration or notice number.
Is there a discount on Karnataka traffic fines now?
Karnataka offered 50% concessions for limited windows in 2025. Such schemes are announced by the government for fixed dates, so check BTP or Karnataka State Police announcements before assuming one is running.
Does the Kolkata Traffic Police show photos of violations?
Camera-based cases usually carry an image. Open the challan on the official Kolkata Traffic Police site or the national portal to see what is attached.
What is the fine for jumping a red light?
It is commonly booked as dangerous driving under section 184, which allows ₹1,000 to ₹5,000 for a first offence. Your state's amount may differ, so read the challan.
Can the police take my licence for a traffic offence?
For serious offences such as dangerous or drunk driving, the licensing authority can suspend or disqualify a licence in addition to the fine.
How long does a camera fine take to appear?
Usually a few days, but upload times vary by city. If nothing shows after a week, search again before contacting the traffic police.
I paid but the fine still shows pending. What now?
Wait two or three working days for the bank to confirm. If it stays pending, share the receipt or transaction ID with the issuing traffic police.
Can a fine be paid in cash?
Many cities accept cash or card at traffic police stations and counters, such as Bengaluru's police stations and Kolkata Traffic Police headquarters.
Who pays a fine on a rented or company vehicle?
The challan is recorded against the vehicle, so the owner receives it. Owners usually recover it from the driver under their own agreement.
Do traffic fines affect insurance?
A fine itself does not change your policy, but driving without insurance is an offence, and pending challans can hold up RTO work such as an RC transfer.
Parivahan Sewa (parivahansewa-in.com) is an independent information website and is not affiliated with MoRTH, Parivahan or any state transport department. Confirm fees and rules on the official portal before you pay or apply.
