FASTag annual pass: price, validity and how to activate it

By , Editor and reviewer · Updated · 24 min read · Independent guide, not a government website

In short

The FASTag annual pass lets a private car, jeep or van cross National Highway and National Expressway toll plazas without per-trip deductions for one year or 200 crossings, whichever ends first. It costs ₹3,075 for FY 2026-27 and is bought only on the Rajmargyatra app or the NHAI website. It sits on your existing FASTag.

Key takeaways

  • The fee is ₹3,075 from 1 April 2026; it was ₹3,000 in 2025-26.
  • Validity is one year or 200 crossings, whichever comes first; a return trip through one plaza counts as two.
  • Only private non-commercial cars, jeeps and vans qualify, and the tag must be fixed, VRN-linked and not blacklisted.
  • It works only at NH and National Expressway plazas; state and private toll roads still deduct from your wallet.
  • There is no lifetime pass or paid all-India toll-free card; exemptions exist only for listed categories.

What is the FASTag annual pass?

The FASTag annual pass is a prepaid toll plan from NHAI for private cars. You pay one fee, and your tag stops being debited at National Highway and National Expressway plazas for one year or 200 crossings. It went live on 15 August 2025 and is managed through IHMCL, the NHAI company that runs FASTag.

FASTag annual pass key numbers: ₹3,075 fee, 200 crossings and one year validity
The fee was ₹3,000 in 2025-26 and was revised from 1 April 2026.

How it differs from a normal FASTag

A normal tag deducts the toll at every plaza from a prepaid wallet or linked account. With the pass active, the plaza still reads your tag but records a pass crossing instead of a charge, so the wallet balance does not move on covered roads.

Is it compulsory?

No. The pass is optional. If you do not buy it, your FASTag keeps working exactly as before, with the usual per-trip deductions at every plaza.

How much does the annual toll pass cost in 2026?

The annual toll pass costs ₹3,075 for FY 2026-27, applicable from 1 April 2026. NHAI announced the revision on 15 March 2026, raising it from the launch fee of ₹3,000, under the National Highways Fee Rules, 2008, which allow yearly revisions. One payment covers up to 200 crossings.

What one crossing works out to

If you use all 200 crossings, the 2026-27 fee comes to roughly ₹15 per crossing. The saving is largest on long NH trips.

Will the fee change again?

Probably. The fee follows the NH fee rules, revised each financial year, so check the amount in the app on the day you pay.

How long is the FASTag yearly pass valid?

The FASTag yearly pass is valid for one year from activation or 200 crossings, whichever comes first. When either limit is reached, the tag automatically returns to normal deductions. Heavy users may finish 200 crossings in a few months, while occasional travellers will usually see the one-year limit end first.

Timeline of FASTag pass validity from activation to 200 crossings or one year
Renewal is a fresh purchase; unused crossings do not roll over by default.

When the clock starts

The year runs from the date of activation, not from 1 April or the date you bought your FASTag. A pass bought in November runs to the next November unless the crossings run out earlier.

Tracking how many trips are left

The Rajmargyatra app shows the pass status and crossings used. You also get SMS alerts, because the app fetches the mobile number registered with your issuer bank.

Who can buy a yearly toll pass?

A yearly toll pass is only for private, non-commercial cars, jeeps and vans that already have a working FASTag. Taxis, goods vehicles, buses and two-wheelers are not covered. Using the pass on a commercial vehicle leads to immediate deactivation without notice.

Annual toll pass eligibility checklist for private cars, jeeps and vans with FASTag
A tag registered only on a chassis number has to be updated first.

Tag conditions that block the pass

The tag must be fixed on the windscreen, linked to a valid vehicle registration number and not blacklisted. A tag registered only with a chassis number, common on brand-new cars, must have its VRN updated first.

Why two-wheelers are not in the scheme

Two-wheelers do not pay toll on national highways under the NH fee rules, so they have no use for the pass. Our guide to two wheeler toll explains the exemption.

How to buy the FASTag yearly pass online?

You buy the FASTag yearly pass online in the official Rajmargyatra app or on the NHAI website. The system checks your vehicle and tag, then asks for payment. No new tag, documents upload or plaza visit is needed if your existing FASTag is in order.

  1. Open Rajmargyatra or the NHAI site. Log in with the mobile number linked to your FASTag.
  2. Enter the vehicle number. Add the registration number and FASTag details shown in the annual pass section.
  3. Wait for the eligibility check. The system checks vehicle class, VRN link, windscreen fixing and blacklist status.
  4. Pay the fee. Pay through the app’s UPI, card or net banking options. Wallet balance cannot be used.
  5. Confirm activation. Watch for the SMS confirming the pass on your existing FASTag before your next trip.
Five steps to buy the FASTag yearly pass online through the Rajmargyatra app
No new tag is needed: the pass sits on the FASTag already on your windscreen.

Logging in to the app

Rajmargyatra is NHAI’s own highway app. If you manage your tag through the IHMCL portal as well, our page on IHMCL FASTag login covers the account side.

Buying the pass as a gift

Since October 2025 the app lets you gift a pass. Choose Add Pass, enter the recipient’s vehicle number and contact details, verify the OTP and pay. The pass then activates on their FASTag, not yours.

How is the NHAI annual pass activated?

The NHAI annual pass is activated on your existing FASTag once eligibility is verified and payment is confirmed. NHAI has said activation usually completes within about two hours. You do not stick a new sticker on the car or visit a plaza.

Signs it has worked

You receive an SMS on the registered mobile number, and the app shows the pass as active with crossings remaining. At the plaza, the SMS for a crossing shows no wallet deduction.

If activation takes longer

Wait a few hours, then check the pass status in the app. If it still shows pending after payment, call the national highway helpline 1033 with your payment reference.

Is the NHAI annual toll pass valid on every highway?

No. The NHAI annual toll pass works only at fee plazas on National Highways and National Expressways, about 1,150 plazas in all. Plazas on state highways or expressways run by state governments, local bodies or their concessionaires treat it as an ordinary FASTag and deduct the usual toll.

How to tell an NH plaza from a state one

The road’s number is the quickest clue: “NH” roads and National Expressways are covered. State expressways such as many city ring roads, and plazas run by state road corporations, are not. When in doubt, keep wallet balance.

Mixed routes

A long trip often crosses both kinds of plaza; state-run ones are paid from the wallet on the same tag.

How are crossings counted on an annual toll pass in India?

On an annual toll pass in India, each pass through a point-based plaza counts as one crossing, so a to-and-fro trip uses two. On closed tolling stretches, where you pay by distance between an entry and an exit, one entry and exit pair counts as a single crossing.

Table showing how crossings count on an annual toll pass in India by plaza type
A daily return trip through one plaza uses two of your 200 crossings.

Daily commuters through one plaza

If you cross the same plaza twice every working day, 200 crossings last about 100 working days. A local or monthly plaza pass may suit that pattern better, as covered further down.

Expressway trips

On access-controlled expressways with closed tolling, a long drive from one end to the other uses one crossing, which makes the pass good value on those routes.

Is a FASTag pass worth the money?

A FASTag pass pays off when your yearly NH toll spend is clearly above the fee. Add up a typical month of car tolls on your usual routes and multiply by twelve. If that beats ₹3,075 and you will make enough crossings, the pass saves money; if you rarely use highways, it will not.

NHAI annual pass compared with a regular FASTag wallet for highway toll payment
Both run on the same tag; the wallet still pays at state-run plazas.

A simple way to estimate

List the plazas on your regular trips, note the car toll shown on each plaza board or in the app, and count how many times a year you pass them. Remember that return trips count twice against the 200 limit.

When it is not worth it

If most of your tolls are on state or private roads, such as city elevated roads, the pass covers little. The same is true if you drive the car only for a few highway trips a year.

Can FASTag recharge online money pay for the pass?

No. Money added through a FASTag recharge online sits in your tag wallet and cannot be used to buy the annual pass. The fee is paid separately through the payment options inside the Rajmargyatra app or on the NHAI website. Your wallet balance keeps paying state highway tolls, parking and other charges.

Ways to top up the wallet

IHMCL lists the issuer bank’s portal (net banking, UPI or card), the My FASTag app, cash through BBPS at plaza points of sale, and UPI to an ID in the form NETC.vehicle number@bank handle. The minimum recharge is Re 1.

Recharging an NHAI-issued tag

If your tag came from NHAI’s own wallet rather than a bank, the steps differ slightly. See our guide to NHAI FASTag recharge for that route.

How does a FASTag yearly recharge (renewal) work?

A FASTag yearly recharge of the pass is simply a fresh purchase once the current pass ends. After one year or 200 crossings, the tag reverts to normal deductions, and you buy the pass again in the app for another year or 200 crossings at the fee then in force.

Renewing before your next trip

Before a long journey, check the crossings left and keep enough wallet balance for when deductions restart.

Unused crossings

The official FAQ says the pass ends at one year even if crossings remain. It does not describe any carry-forward of unused crossings, so plan to use the pass within the year.

FASTag annual recharge vs a normal wallet top-up

A FASTag annual recharge buys a fixed bundle of NH crossings for one fee, while a normal wallet top-up adds money that is spent toll by toll anywhere FASTag is accepted. Most pass holders need both: the pass for national highways and a small wallet balance for everything else.

What each one covers

The pass covers NH and National Expressway car tolls only. The wallet covers state and private toll roads, FASTag parking and any vehicle use not covered by the pass.

Which to choose

If your NH toll spend is low, keep topping up the wallet. If it is high and regular, add the pass and keep a minimum wallet balance as backup.

What are the FASTag annual charges beyond the pass fee?

The official FAQ lists only the pass fee itself as the annual pass charge. Separate costs come from your issuer bank, such as the tag issue fee, security deposit or minimum balance, which vary by bank. Check your bank’s current FASTag charges before you buy or replace a tag.

Bank-side fees

Each bank sets its own tag price and deposit. For a comparison by issuer, see our pages on bank tags in the FASTag section, such as SBI FASTag.

Hidden costs to avoid

The pass is sold only on official channels. Agents or websites that charge extra “processing” fees for the pass are not part of the scheme, so avoid them.

Are there FASTag recharge plans for highway users?

FASTag itself has no tariff plans like a mobile connection. The only nationwide prepaid toll plan is the annual pass. Beyond that, there are plaza-specific local and monthly passes. Offers you may see from banks or apps are cashback promotions on a wallet recharge, not separate toll plans.

The ₹3,000 launch plan

Many people still search for the original ₹3,000 plan. Our page on the FASTag 3000 pass covers that launch-year version and how it changed.

Plaza passes

Monthly and local passes are bought for one specific plaza and are explained in the toll plaza section of this page.

Why check your NETC FASTag status first?

Checking your NETC FASTag status before paying avoids a failed pass. The pass is refused on tags that are blacklisted, inactive or not linked to the right vehicle number. NPCI runs the NETC system, and its status page lists every FASTag linked to your vehicle number, so you can spot an old tag or a blocked one.

Common annual toll pass errors and fixes, from blacklisted tags to wrong deductions
Keep the payment receipt and SMS until the pass shows as active.

One vehicle, one FASTag

Since February 2024 only the latest FASTag on a vehicle stays active. If the status page shows an older tag as active and your current one as not, contact your issuer bank before buying the pass.

What blacklisting means

A blacklisted tag cannot pay toll, usually because of low balance, incomplete KYC or a class mismatch. Our page on FASTag blacklist rules explains how to clear it.

NETC FASTag status check: step by step

A NETC FASTag status check takes a minute on the NPCI website. Open the page “Check your NETC FASTag status”, enter your vehicle details and captcha, and submit. The result shows each tag linked to the vehicle and whether it is active.

  1. Open the NPCI status page. Go to npci.org.in and find “Check your NETC FASTag status”.
  2. Enter vehicle details. Type the registration number exactly as on the RC.
  3. Submit and read the result. Note each tag’s issuer and whether it is active.

NETC FASTag check in your bank app

You can also do a NETC FASTag check in your issuer bank’s app or portal, which shows the balance and recent deductions as well as the tag’s status.

What the status page does not show

The NPCI page shows tag status, not wallet balance or pass details. Use the bank app for the balance and Rajmargyatra for the pass.

How do I request NETC FASTag from a bank?

To request NETC FASTag, apply to any member bank or its authorised point of sale with the vehicle’s RC, your ID and address proof, and a photo, as the bank asks. The bank issues the tag and wallet; once it is fixed on the windscreen and active, it can carry the annual pass.

Choosing an issuer

For bank-by-bank detail, use the main FASTag and online pass guide.

New cars

Dealers often fit a FASTag at delivery, registered against the chassis number. Update it to the registration number once the car is registered, or the pass will be refused.

FASTag pay highway toll online: how it works

With FASTag you pay highway toll online without stopping: an RFID reader at the plaza reads the tag on your windscreen, the acquirer bank sends the charge through NPCI’s NETC network, and your issuer bank debits the wallet or linked account. With an annual pass active, NH plazas record a pass crossing instead.

The SMS after each plaza

Your issuer bank sends an SMS with the plaza name, time and amount. With the pass, the SMS shows the crossing without a wallet charge on covered roads.

Wrong deductions

If you were charged at an NH plaza while your pass was active, or charged twice, report it to your issuer bank within 40 days of the transaction. A chargeback usually takes 20 to 30 working days.

How does toll tax collection work on national highways?

Toll tax collection on national highways is done under the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008. Plazas are run by NHAI or its contractors, rates are set per vehicle class and section, and payment is by FASTag. Vehicles without a valid tag pay more.

Paying without a valid FASTag

From 15 November 2025 a vehicle without a valid FASTag pays double the fee in cash or 1.25 times by UPI. Reports say cash was then withdrawn at NH plazas from 10 April 2026, leaving FASTag or UPI; confirm at the plaza board.

Where the rates come from

Each plaza displays its rates by vehicle class. For the section-wise amounts, see our page on NHAI toll charges.

What is a toll FASTag?

A toll FASTag is the RFID sticker on your windscreen that pays toll electronically under the national NETC system. It is issued by member banks, linked to a prepaid wallet or bank account, and tied to one vehicle. The annual pass is not a separate tag; it is a benefit loaded onto this same sticker.

Why the sticker must stay on the glass

A tag kept in the glovebox or held up by hand may not read, and NHAI has announced double toll for vehicles whose tag is not fixed on the front windscreen. The pass is also refused on loose tags.

One tag per vehicle

Only the most recent tag linked to a vehicle stays active under the “One Vehicle, One FASTag” rule.

National highway toll: where NHAI rates apply

National highway toll applies on roads numbered as NH and on National Expressways, where NHAI or MoRTH sets the user fee. These are the only plazas where the annual pass works. Bridges, city elevated roads and state highways may also charge toll, but under state or concession rules.

How to check a road’s status

Kilometre stones on NH roads show the national highway number, and Rajmargyatra shows plaza details on many routes.

Plazas near city limits

Several busy plazas sit just outside metro areas on NH routes and are covered. City-owned toll roads inside those metros usually are not.

Is there a free toll pass?

There is no free toll pass that the public can buy or apply for. Toll-free travel on national highways is limited to exempt categories listed in the NH fee rules, such as certain constitutional office holders, defence vehicles, ambulances and fire engines. Everyone else pays per trip or buys the annual pass.

Free passage when the system fails

IHMCL says that if the plaza’s electronic toll equipment is not working and you have a valid, funded FASTag, you may pass without paying. This is a fault rule, not a pass.

Messages offering a free pass

Treat any message offering a “free toll pass” for a fee or bank details as a scam.

What is an NHAI toll pass?

An NHAI toll pass is any concession sold on top of your FASTag for NH plazas. There are three kinds: the nationwide annual pass, a monthly pass for regular users of one plaza, and a local pass for non-commercial vehicles registered near a plaza. All three ride on the same tag.

Pass typeWho it suitsPriceWhere it works

Which pass to pick

If one plaza is near your home and you cross it daily, the local or monthly pass is usually cheaper. For trips across many plazas, the annual pass wins.

Holding two passes

The FAQ allows the annual pass alongside a local or monthly pass. Crossings at the plaza with the other pass are not deducted from your 200.

Toll plaza pass options for daily commuters

A toll plaza pass is bought for one plaza. On the IHMCL portal choose “Buy monthly FASTag Pass”, select the plaza, enter your tag ID or vehicle number on the acquirer bank’s page, pick the pass type, and pay. You can also buy one at the plaza office or the acquirer’s point of sale.

Keep the receipt

If the plaza still deducts toll, the receipt and SMS are your evidence when you call the bank or 1033.

Rates change each year

Plaza pass rates are revised with the yearly fee revision. The current rate is displayed on the plaza’s fee board.

Toll exemption for local residents: how it works

Toll exemption for local residents is really a concession: non-commercial vehicles registered within a set distance of a plaza can buy a cheap local monthly pass. The local pass was ₹350 a month for FY 2025-26, and residents must use a FASTag to get it, because the concession is set up at plaza level.

Toll plaza free pass for nearby villages

Some people ask for a toll plaza free pass for villages next to a plaza. The NH rules provide the paid local pass, not a free one; any extra local arrangement is decided at plaza or state level, so ask the plaza office.

Proof you will need

Plazas usually ask for the RC showing an address within the eligible distance. Ask the plaza office which documents it accepts before you go.

Toll plaza exemption list: who pays no toll?

The toll plaza exemption list comes from Rule 11 of the NH fee rules. It covers vehicles carrying top constitutional office holders, judges and legislators, defence vehicles under the Indian Tolls (Army and Air Force) Act, 1901, forces and police in uniform on duty, fire and emergency vehicles, ambulances, funeral vans and vehicles for disabled persons.

Each category needs proof and a free exempted FASTag from NHAI.

Exemption is for the vehicle in use

Most exemptions apply while the vehicle carries the office holder or is on official duty, not to every family car.

State roads

State-run toll roads follow state rules and may have a different list.

NHAI toll tax exemption: rules behind the list

NHAI toll tax exemption is granted only to the categories in Rule 11; NHAI cannot add personal exemptions. Since toll became FASTag-based, exempt vehicles need an exempted FASTag so the plaza can recognise them in the lane without stopping.

Why exempt vehicles still need a tag

IHMCL says exempt vehicles must still affix the exempted sticker. Without it, a FASTag lane treats the car like any vehicle without a valid tag.

Validity of an exempted tag

Exempted tags are valid 5 years for government vehicles and 1 year for private ones; MPs, MLAs and MLCs get tags for their tenure.

IHMCL exempted FASTag online apply: the steps

For an IHMCL exempted FASTag online apply, register on the IHMCL website, upload the signed form with proofs, and collect the tag from the NHAI Regional Office. Banks cannot issue it: an agency authorised by NHAI is the only issuer, and the tag is free.

Steps for IHMCL exempted FASTag online apply, from registration to collecting the tag
Banks cannot issue exempted tags; only the NHAI-authorised agency can.

The five stages

Register with name, email, mobile and city; log in with the emailed user ID; download and upload the form; choose the category and NHAI Regional Office; then track the Case ID until the sticker is ready.

IHMCL exempted FASTag registration online: documents

IHMCL exempted FASTag registration online needs scanned copies of the vehicle’s RC, the applicant’s ID proof, proof of the exemption (such as an appointment order or official letter) and the signed application form. Missing or unclear scans are the usual reason a case is sent back.

Exempted FASTag login

After registering, use the exempted FASTag login on the IHMCL site with the user ID and password sent by email. The dashboard shows the case status and any observations to answer.

Ambulances and special vehicles

Ambulances, funeral vans and vehicles for disabled persons need supporting documents showing the vehicle is used for that purpose.

Who gets an NHAI free FASTag?

An NHAI free FASTag is the exempted tag issued at no cost to vehicles in the Rule 11 categories. Ordinary car owners do not get a free tag; they buy one from a bank.

A free tag is not free toll

Only an exempted tag stops toll deductions. A tag bought at a discount still pays toll or uses the annual pass.

Is there a lifetime toll pass?

No. There is no lifetime toll pass on sale. The only nationwide toll plan is the annual pass, valid one year or 200 crossings. Any site selling a “lifetime” toll pass is not an official channel.

What happened to the lifetime toll pass India plan

Early 2025 reports described a proposed lifetime toll pass for India valid 15 years for a one-time ₹30,000. When the scheme was finally launched in August 2025, only the annual pass went ahead.

Is a FASTag lifetime pass on sale anywhere?

No official FASTag lifetime pass exists. If you see one advertised, do not pay; check Rajmargyatra or the NHAI site instead.

Does an all India toll tax free card exist?

No. An all India toll tax free card that anyone can buy does not exist. Toll-free travel on national highways comes only from Rule 11 exemptions, shown by an exempted FASTag. Cards sold online with this name are not recognised at NH plazas.

What counts as proof at a plaza

In FASTag lanes the exempted tag is the proof. Exempt office holders may also show their official identity card where staff check manually.

Is there a VIP card for toll plaza lanes?

There is no purchasable VIP card for toll plaza lanes. “VIP” exemptions are the constitutional and official categories in Rule 11, and they work through the exempted FASTag. Stickers or cards claiming VIP status do not exempt a vehicle, and misusing official insignia can lead to action.

Indian Army toll tax card: what soldiers use

There is no separate Indian Army toll tax card. Defence vehicles and personnel eligible under the Indian Tolls (Army and Air Force) Act, 1901 are exempt, and Rule 11 recognises this. Eligibility depends on the vehicle and duty, as set out in the 1901 Act and defence orders.

Toll tax card for defence personnel

What people call a toll tax card for defence personnel is usually the service identity card shown when travelling under the 1901 Act. Personal use of a private car does not automatically qualify; ask your unit for the current orders.

FASTag for defence personnel: which tag to use

FASTag for defence personnel depends on the vehicle. Ministry of Defence vehicles eligible under the 1901 Act fall into an exempted FASTag category. A serviceman’s private car on personal travel needs a normal bank FASTag and can carry the annual pass like any private car.

Applying for a defence exempted tag

Use the IHMCL exempted FASTag process, selecting the defence category and uploading the authorisation your unit provides.

A letter of exemption from toll tax for disabled drivers

People search for a letter of exemption from toll tax for disabled drivers because the exemption list includes mechanical vehicles for disabled persons. The exemption works through the exempted FASTag, with the vehicle’s RC and proof of disability and adaptation as supporting documents, not through a standalone letter.

Writing to the authority

If your case is unclear, write to the NHAI Regional Office for your area with copies of the RC, disability certificate and proof that the vehicle is adapted, and ask for confirmation.

What are the toll pass rules?

The core toll pass rules are simple: use the pass only on the eligible private vehicle, keep the tag fixed and active, and expect deductions at non-NH plazas. Misuse ends the pass. The rules come from the IHMCL FAQ and the NH fee rules.

Yearly toll pass dos and don'ts for private car owners on national highways
Most refused passes trace back to tag details, not the payment.

Toll plaza pass rules you should know

For local and monthly passes, the toll plaza pass rules add two points: the pass works only at the plaza you bought it for, and eligibility for local rates depends on the registered address.

Rules wider than the pass

For the full set of fee and lane rules, see our page on toll tax rules.

Toll plaza new rules in 2026

The main toll plaza new rules of 2025-26 are the annual pass fee of ₹3,075 from 1 April 2026, the 1.25-times UPI fee for non-FASTag vehicles from November 2025, and reported cashless tolling at NH plazas from April 2026. Wider policy changes are tracked on our new toll policy page.

Confirm before you travel

Rules change by notification. Check the plaza board and NHAI’s announcements.

Toll pass price compared

The toll pass price depends on the pass: the annual pass is ₹3,075 for 2026-27, the local pass was ₹350 a month in 2025-26, and plaza monthly pass rates are set per plaza. Compare them against your trips in the NHAI toll pass table above.

Price changes each April

All NH pass prices follow the yearly fee revision, so recheck each April.

What is a toll slip and do you still get one?

A toll slip is the receipt from a manual lane. With FASTag, the issuer bank’s SMS and statement replace it. Pass crossings show in the Rajmargyatra app and in the SMS from your bank.

Getting a record for expenses

Download the FASTag statement from your bank’s portal or app.

Which toll app sells the pass?

The only toll app that sells the annual pass is Rajmargyatra, NHAI’s official highway app; the NHAI website is the other channel. Bank apps handle the wallet and statement, not the pass. For the app’s login and other features, see our IHMCL FASTag login guide.

Apps to avoid

Do not buy the pass through third-party apps or links shared on chat groups.

Road toll pass on state and private roads

A road toll pass on a state or private road is a separate product from that road’s operator. The annual pass does not apply there, so these roads deduct from your wallet or need their own monthly pass. Bengaluru’s Electronic City toll is one example.

Asking the operator

The operator’s office or website lists its own pass rules and current rates.

NICE Road monthly pass: does the annual pass work there?

The NICE Road monthly pass is sold by Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises, the private company that runs Bengaluru’s NICE Road. NICE Road is not an NHAI plaza, so the FASTag annual pass does not cover it and the usual toll is deducted from your wallet.

NICE Road toll monthly pass: where to buy

Buy a NICE Road toll monthly pass from the operator at its toll plaza offices. Tolls there are revised each July; we could not verify the current pass rate, so confirm it with the operator before paying.

What is the FASTag scheme?

The FASTag scheme is India’s national electronic toll system, run by NHAI through IHMCL under MoRTH, with NPCI’s NETC network settling payments between banks. FASTag became mandatory on NH plazas from 1 December 2019, and every lane became a FASTag lane in February 2021. The annual pass is the newest layer on that system.

FASTag annual pass questions

What is the price of the FASTag annual pass in 2026?

It is ₹3,075 for FY 2026-27, applicable from 1 April 2026. It was ₹3,000 in 2025-26.

Can I buy the annual pass with my FASTag balance?

No. The fee is paid through the payment options in the Rajmargyatra app or on the NHAI website. Your wallet balance stays for other tolls.

Does a return trip use one crossing or two?

At a normal point-based plaza a return trip uses two crossings. On a closed tolling stretch, one entry and exit pair counts as one.

Does the pass work on state highways and city toll roads?

No. At plazas run by state governments, local bodies or private concessions outside the NH network, your FASTag pays the normal toll.

Can I move the annual pass to my new car?

No. The pass is non-transferable and stays with the vehicle on which the FASTag is fixed and registered.

What happens after 200 crossings?

The tag goes back to normal deductions. To keep the benefit you buy the pass again for a fresh year or 200 crossings.

Can a taxi or commercial car use the pass?

No. It is only for private non-commercial cars, jeeps and vans. Use on a commercial vehicle leads to deactivation without notice.

Do I need a new FASTag for the pass?

No. The pass is activated on your existing tag if it is fixed on the windscreen, linked to the vehicle number and not blacklisted.

Is there a lifetime toll pass in India?

No. A 15-year lifetime pass was reported as a proposal in early 2025, but only the annual pass was launched.

Can I gift the annual pass to someone?

Yes. The Rajmargyatra app has an Add Pass option where you enter the recipient's vehicle number and contact details and pay.

I have a local monthly pass. Can I add the annual pass?

Yes. Crossings at the plaza where your local pass is active are not counted against the annual pass.

Who do I call if the pass is not working?

Call the NHAI highway helpline 1033, and for wrong wallet deductions call your issuer bank within 40 days.
