Bike and car number plate design: what the law lets you change

By , Editor and reviewer · Updated · 24 min read · Independent guide, not a government website

In short

Number plate design in India is fixed by law, not chosen by the owner. Every bike and car must carry a high security registration plate (HSRP) with embossed standard characters, a chromium hologram, the IND mark and a laser code. Fancy fonts, logos, names, stickers and tinted covers are not allowed. What you can choose is the number itself, through the RTO's choice number scheme.

Key takeaways

  • A legal number plate design shows only the registration number, in the maker's embossed style.
  • Stylish fonts, logos, names and slogans on the plate can lead to a challan under the Motor Vehicles Act.
  • Online plate editor apps make a picture, not a road-legal plate.
  • Plate size and colour depend on the vehicle type and its use, such as private, commercial or electric.
  • For a number that looks special, book a choice number from the RTO instead of changing the font.

What is number plate design under Indian rules?

In India, number plate design means the official layout of the registration plate, set by the Central Motor Vehicles Rules and the HSRP Order of 2018. It covers the plate material, size, colour, character style and security marks. Owners do not design plates; an authorised maker produces them for each vehicle.

Checklist of what a legal number plate design in India must show on bikes and cars
Everything on the plate is fixed by the HSRP maker, not by the owner.

Who decides the design

The design comes from Rule 50 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, which was amended in 2018 to bring in tamper-proof plates. States then appoint plate makers, who press every plate to the same pattern for that vehicle class.

What the owner controls

The owner controls three things only: keeping the plate clean, keeping it fixed where the maker intended, and choosing a special number at registration if they want one. Everything printed on the plate is outside the owner’s choice.

A legal bike number plate design is a plain aluminium HSRP with the registration number embossed in black on white for a private bike. It carries a chromium hologram at the top left, the letters IND in blue below it, and a laser-etched code. Nothing else appears.

The front plate

The front plate on a bike is a narrow strip, sized for the headlamp area or the front mudguard. It shows the number on one line so that oncoming riders, police and cameras can read it.

The rear plate

The rear plate is taller and usually shows the number on two lines: the state and RTO code on top, the series and digits below. It must be lit at night by the bike’s number plate lamp.

Bike number plate design new style: what changed with HSRP?

The bike number plate design new style is the high security plate that makers have supplied on new vehicles since 1 April 2019. It replaced painted and acrylic plates made by local shops. The new style uses embossed metal, a hologram and snap-lock rivets that break if someone removes the plate.

Old shop plates

Before HSRP, any shop could cut an acrylic or metal sheet and paint the number. That is why older bikes show so many fonts and colours. Those plates were easy to copy, which helped vehicle theft and number cloning.

What the new style fixed

Because the HSRP has a unique laser code tied to the vehicle record, a copied plate is easier to catch. The standard font also helps automatic number plate reading cameras at toll plazas and signals.

No. A stylish number plate design that changes the font, spacing, colour or content of the plate is not legal on Indian roads. The rules require the registration mark in the prescribed form, and the HSRP is made only by authorised makers. Style can go on the vehicle’s body, not on the plate.

Comparison of a stylish number plate design from a shop and a legal HSRP plate
A shop plate may look sharp, but only the HSRP counts as legal.

Why shops still sell them

Accessory shops sell stylish plates because demand exists and enforcement varies by city. A shop selling it does not make it legal; the fine falls on the rider, not on the seller.

What counts as stylish

Gothic or racing fonts, tiny digits, digits shaped to read as words, chrome borders with printed text and coloured backgrounds all fall in this group. If the plate does not look like a factory HSRP, it is at risk.

Which number plate style is allowed in India?

Only one number plate style is allowed: the HSRP layout for your vehicle class, with colours that match the way the vehicle is registered. Private vehicles get black on white, commercial ones black on yellow, and electric vehicles a green background. The style is the same in every state.

One style, several colours

The colour scheme is part of the legal style. A private bike cannot use a yellow plate for looks, and a taxi cannot use a white one. The full list of colours is explained in our guide to types of number plates.

Style across states

A Delhi bike and a Kerala bike carry the same plate pattern. Only the state code, RTO code and series change, and those come from the registration record.

Can a stylish bike number plate pass a police check?

A stylish bike number plate may slip past a busy checkpoint, but it does not pass a proper check. Officers look for the hologram, the IND mark and the standard font. Many cities also run drives against non-standard plates, and camera challans can follow if the number is misread.

What officers look for

The first thing checked is whether the plate is a genuine HSRP. The second is whether the number matches the RC and the Vahan record shown in the mParivahan app.

Camera problems

Automatic cameras struggle with script fonts and stylised digits. A misread number can send a challan to the wrong vehicle, or no challan at all, which is why enforcement teams target these plates.

Logo bike number plate design: are logos allowed?

No. A logo bike number plate design with a brand badge, a religious symbol, a party flag, a club crest or a cartoon on the plate is not allowed. The only mark besides the number is the maker’s hologram. A logo next to the digits turns a legal plate into a non-standard one.

Dos and don'ts for a logo bike number plate design and names on two-wheeler plates
Logos belong on the tank or fairing, never on the plate itself.

Where logos can go

Riders who want a logo can put it on the fuel tank, the side panels, the visor or the helmet. Those areas are not part of the registration mark, so a tasteful sticker there does not break the plate rule.

Brand logos from dealers

Some dealers add their own name or logo on a strip below the plate. Ask for it to be removed, because the plate area must show only the registration mark.

Is a logo number plate design allowed on cars?

The answer is the same for cars. A logo number plate design on a car, such as a maker’s emblem printed on the plate, a family crest or a government-style seal, is not allowed. The car’s own badge belongs on the grille or boot, not on the plate itself.

Fake official symbols

Printing a national emblem, a police mark or a ministry name on a private plate is especially risky. It suggests an official vehicle and can bring action beyond a simple plate challan.

Bumper stickers near the plate

A sticker on the bumper above or below the plate is not part of the plate. It still must not cover any character, the hologram or the plate light.

Bike number plate design name: can you add your name?

You cannot add your name to the plate. A bike number plate design name layout, with the owner’s name, surname, nickname or job title printed on the plate, adds text that is not part of the registration mark. Names, ranks and titles such as Doctor, Advocate or Police are not allowed.

Names on the vehicle body

A name sticker on the tank, the rear fender or the helmet is a separate matter. It is not a plate design, as long as the sticker stays off the plate area.

Job titles and ranks

Words such as Press, Army or Advocate on the plate are seen by police as an attempt to avoid checks. Many cities run special drives against them.

What counts as a fancy number plate design?

A fancy number plate design is any plate that departs from the HSRP pattern for looks. Common examples are coloured backgrounds, script or italic fonts, digits arranged to spell names, LED-lit borders, mirror finishes and small decorative pictures. All of them are treated as non-standard plates.

Digits that spell words

Some owners space digits so that 4 looks like A or 8 looks like B, spelling a name. Officers treat this as tampering with the registration mark, even when the digits are correct.

Lit and mirrored plates

LED frames and mirror-finish plates make the number hard to read at night or in flash photos. They also hide the hologram, which is part of the legal design.

Is a fancy car number plate design judged the same way?

Yes. A fancy car number plate design is judged by the same rule as a bike plate. Cars use the larger plate size for light motor vehicles and also need the colour-coded third registration sticker on the windscreen, so a fancy plate on a car can miss two requirements at once.

The windscreen sticker

Cars made from April 2019 carry the third registration sticker, which shows the fuel type by colour. A car with a fancy plate often has no sticker either.

Rear plate position on cars

Some owners move the rear plate onto the boot glass or lower bumper for looks. The plate must stay in the position the maker designed and must stay lit.

Number plate modified: which changes are illegal?

A number plate modified in any way that changes its size, shape, colour, font, position or visibility is illegal. That includes cutting the plate, bending it, covering it, painting it, adding stickers or replacing it with a shop plate. Only the HSRP as supplied, fitted at the original mount, counts.

Common problems with a bike number plate modified by owners and how to fix them
Most modified-plate challans are fixed by going back to stock.

Physical changes

Cutting the corners, bending the plate along a fender or drilling new holes all damage an HSRP. A damaged plate should be replaced through the state’s HSRP service, not repaired at a shop.

Visual changes

Tints, smoked covers, sprays that are said to block cameras, and reflective films added on top are all illegal changes. They make the plate harder to read, which defeats its purpose.

A bike number plate modified with a tail tidy, a short fender kit or a swingarm side mount is legal only if the plate stays at the correct size, fully visible, upright and lit. Many aftermarket kits tilt the plate or hide it under the seat, which leads to fines.

Side-mounted plates

Side mounts look neat on custom bikes, but the rear plate often ends up angled and partly hidden. If an officer cannot read it from behind, it fails the rule.

Removing the plate lamp

Tail tidy kits often drop the number plate lamp. Without that light the rear plate cannot be read at night, which is a separate fault from the plate design itself.

Car number plate modified: what owners get wrong

The most common car number plate modified mistakes are fitting a slimmer plate to suit a bumper, using a frame that hides the hologram, adding a tinted cover and replacing a damaged HSRP with a shop plate. Each one turns a legal car into one that can be fined.

Plate frames and covers

Frames printed with dealer names or slogans often cover the IND mark or the bottom of the digits. The guide to number plate frame rules explains what a frame may and may not cover.

Shop replacements after accidents

After a minor accident, many owners get a quick shop plate. That plate has no hologram or laser code. Book a replacement HSRP instead.

A creative number plate design that stays legal does not touch the plate at all. Creativity goes into the number you choose, the bike’s paint, the tank graphics and the helmet. A clean, correctly fitted HSRP with a well-chosen number looks sharper than any stylised shop plate.

Pick a choice number at registration, keep the plate spotless, fit it straight at the stock mount, and use a neat plate holder that does not cover any edge.

Bike number plate design online editing: what the apps make

Bike number plate design online editing apps and websites let you type a number and see it on a plate template. They produce an image, not a road-legal plate. Printing that image and fixing it to a bike gives you a plate with no hologram, no laser code and no legal standing.

Quick answers on bike number plate design online editing apps and their limits
An edited photo is fine for fun but never for the road.

When an editor is useful

An editor can help you compare choice numbers before you bid, or make a mock-up for a social media post. It cannot replace the plate made by the authorised maker.

Apps that claim to sell HSRP

Some apps claim to make or sell HSRP plates directly. Book only through your state transport department’s official link, which lists the authorised vendor.

Motorcycle number plate design: front and rear layout

A motorcycle number plate design has two plates of different sizes. The front plate is a narrow strip and the rear plate is a small rectangle, both made to the HSRP pattern. The table below lists the standard sizes reported for each vehicle class.

Table of motorcycle number plate design sizes for front and rear plates in India
A plate cut or bent to fit a custom fender breaks these sizes.
VehiclePlateStandard size
Two-wheelerFront28.5 cm x 4.5 cm
Two-wheelerRear20 cm x 10 cm
Three-wheelerFront and rear20 cm x 10 cm
Car and light motor vehicleFront and rear50 cm x 12 cm
Medium and heavy vehicleFront and rear34 cm x 20 cm

Line layout

On the rear plate the number usually splits into two lines. On the front strip it runs on one line. The split is set by the maker, not by the owner.

Character size

The rules set minimum heights, thickness and spacing for letters and numerals by vehicle type. Because the maker embosses them, a genuine HSRP already meets the size rule, which is another reason not to swap it.

Two wheeler number plate design for scooters and mopeds

A two wheeler number plate design is the same for motorcycles, scooters and mopeds: a front strip and a rear rectangle in the HSRP pattern. What changes is where each plate sits, because scooters have a front apron instead of a headlamp nacelle and a body-mounted rear plate holder.

Mopeds and small scooters

Mopeds and small scooters follow the same plate sizes. Their small rear fenders sometimes tempt owners to trim the plate, which is not allowed.

Commercial two-wheelers

Bike taxis and delivery two-wheelers registered for commercial use get black characters on a yellow background. The plate size stays the same.

Scooty number plate design: where does the plate go?

A scooty number plate design places the front plate on the front apron or the front mudguard, and the rear plate on the holder under the tail lamp. Both use the standard two-wheeler HSRP sizes. The plate must sit flat and fully visible, not tucked into a curved panel.

Front apron fitting

On many scooters the front plate sits on a flat area of the apron. Owners sometimes skip it because it spoils the look, but a front plate is required.

Rear holder

The rear holder sits under the tail lamp with its own small light. Keep that bulb working so the plate is readable at night.

Activa number plate design: front apron and rear plate

An Activa number plate design follows the general scooter pattern. The front plate goes on the apron or front fender in the place the maker provided, and the rear plate goes on the holder above the rear wheel. Honda’s model name does not change the plate; only the HSRP rules apply.

Older Activa models

An Activa made before April 2019 may still carry a shop plate. Several states have ordered such vehicles to switch to HSRP, so check your state’s booking portal.

Accessories that cover the plate

Front guards, leg shields and luggage hooks sometimes cover part of the front plate. Adjust or remove them so every character is clear.

Pulsar bike number plate design: what owners ask

The Pulsar bike number plate design questions owners ask most are about the rear plate on the tail section and the front plate near the headlamp cowl. The answer is the same for every Pulsar model: the HSRP in standard two-wheeler sizes, fixed at the mounts Bajaj provides.

Front plate on Pulsar models

On Pulsar models with a headlamp cowl, the front plate sits on the cowl or the front fender. Do not move it under the headlamp where it is hidden.

Rear plate and tail section

Many owners want a shorter rear fender for a sportier look. A kit that keeps the plate upright, visible and lit is fine; one that hides it is not.

Pulsar number plate design on older models

A Pulsar number plate design on older bikes, bought before HSRP became standard, is often a painted or acrylic shop plate. Those plates need to be replaced with HSRP where the state has ordered it. The booking is made with the bike’s registration number, chassis and engine number.

Finding the chassis number

The booking form asks for the chassis number, printed on the RC and stamped on the frame. Our guide on the chassis number in bike frames shows where to look.

Royal Enfield and other models

The same rule applies to every brand. Owners of Royal Enfield bikes can read the Bullet number plate design page for model-specific mounts.

What is the IND number plate design?

The IND number plate design is the HSRP pattern that carries the letters IND in light blue on the left, below a chromium hologram of the Ashoka Chakra. IND marks the plate as Indian. It is printed by the maker as part of the plate, never added as a separate sticker.

Security features of the IND number plate design on a high security plate
IND is printed by the maker; an IND sticker on a plain plate is not legal.

IND stickers

Shops sell IND stickers to put on plain plates. A plain plate with an IND sticker is still a plain plate; it has no hologram or laser code and is not an HSRP.

Other security marks

Besides IND, a genuine plate has a retro-reflective film with a verification pattern, embossed characters and snap-lock rivets that cannot be reused.

What does a new number plate design include?

A new number plate design on a vehicle sold today includes an HSRP on the front and rear, snap-lock fixing by the dealer, and, for four-wheelers, a third registration sticker on the windscreen. Electric vehicles get the green colour scheme, and transferable job holders may opt for the BH series.

Timeline of new number plate design rules in India from 2018 to 2026
Each state set its own deadline for vehicles made before April 2019.

Dates behind the change

The HSRP Order was dated 6 December 2018, and makers have supplied HSRP on vehicles made from 1 April 2019. The BH series was notified on 26 August 2021. More detail is on the new number plate rule page.

What older vehicles must do

States set their own deadlines for vehicles made before April 2019. Maharashtra, for example, extended its deadline to 30 June 2026.

Gadi number plate design: kaunsa design chalega?

Gadi number plate design ke liye sirf ek design chalta hai: HSRP, jo authorised maker banata hai. Fancy font, naam, logo, sticker ya coloured background wali plate legal nahi hai. Bike ho ya car, plate par sirf registration number, hologram, IND aur laser code hona chahiye.

Bike ke liye

Bike ki front plate patli hoti hai aur rear plate chhoti. Dono HSRP honi chahiye. Tail tidy lagao to bhi plate seedhi, saaf aur light ke saath dikhni chahiye.

Car ke liye

Car mein front aur rear dono plate badi size ki hoti hain, aur windscreen par fuel ke colour wala sticker bhi lagta hai. Plate par frame ya tint mat lagao.

What are the number plate styles for bikes in India?

The number plate styles for bikes in India are colour schemes linked to how the bike is registered. A private bike has black on white, a commercial bike black on yellow, a rental bike yellow on black, and electric bikes a green background. The layout is the same; only the colours change.

Changing the colour

The colour changes only when the registration changes, for example from private to commercial use. Painting a plate a different colour for looks is not allowed.

Military and diplomatic plates

Armed forces and diplomatic vehicles have their own formats. They are issued by those authorities and are not styles a private owner can choose.

The legal stylish number plate for car owners is a clean HSRP with a choice number. A car looks premium when the plate is straight, undamaged and fitted in the stock position, with the windscreen sticker in place. Chrome or carbon-look plates with custom fonts only invite fines.

Plate holders

A slim holder that clips around the plate without covering any part of it is generally accepted. Avoid holders with printed slogans or lights that shine into the plate.

Premium cars

Luxury cars follow the same rule. An imported car still gets an Indian HSRP; foreign-style plates or European fonts are not allowed.

What are the best car number plates?

The best car number plates are the ones that are legal and easy to read: a genuine HSRP with a number you like. Owners who want something memorable choose numbers such as 0001, 0007 or 9999 through the RTO’s choice number scheme, which is a paid service during registration.

Choosing a memorable number

Repeating digits, birthdays and round numbers are the most popular. Base prices and auction rules differ by state; see the guide to VIP number plate price for current figures.

What does not make a plate better

Expensive materials, custom colours and styled digits do not improve a plate. They make it non-standard and can lead to a fine.

What makes a perfect number plate?

A perfect number plate is one that any person or camera can read in a second, day or night. It is a genuine HSRP, clean, flat, undamaged, fixed with snap locks at the original mount, and lit at night. Front and rear plates show the same number in the same style.

A simple monthly check

Wipe both plates, check the rear plate lamp, make sure no accessory hides a corner, and confirm the snap locks are tight. It takes two minutes.

When to replace the plate

Replace the plate if it is cracked, bent, faded or missing a hologram. Book the replacement through your state’s HSRP service.

What is the fine for a fancy number plate?

There is no single fine called the fancy plate fine. Officers usually use the general penalty in section 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act, up to ₹500 for a first offence. A plate that does not show a valid registration mark can be treated as driving an unregistered vehicle under section 192.

State amounts differ

States can set their own compounding amounts, and some cities fine non-standard plates under local rules. Check the challan for the section used.

Paying and fixing

Paying the challan does not make the plate legal. Replace it, or the same fine can be issued again at the next check.

Motorbike number plate design for sports and custom bikes

A motorbike number plate design on a sports or custom bike follows the same HSRP rules as a commuter. Fairings, short tails and custom fenders do not change the plate size, colour or font. The challenge is fitting the plate so that it stays upright, visible and lit without cutting it.

Sports bikes

Many sports bikes come with a long rear hugger and plate holder from the factory. Keep it, or fit a kit that holds the plate at the same angle and keeps the lamp.

Custom builds

Choppers, cafe racers and scramblers often move the plate to the side. A modified bike may also need approval for the changes on its RC, which is a separate RTO matter.

To replace a stylish number plate with a legal one, book an HSRP through your state’s official booking link, pay online, take the vehicle to the fitment slot and have the plates fixed with snap locks. Remove the old shop plate and do not keep it on the vehicle.

  1. Check your RC. Note the registration number, chassis number and engine number exactly as printed.
  2. Book on the state portal. Open your state’s official HSRP link and choose the vehicle type and fuel.
  3. Pay online. Pay the plate charge shown by the vendor and save the receipt.
  4. Visit the fitment slot. Take the vehicle to the dealer or fitment centre at the booked time.
  5. Fit and verify. Check the snap locks and that the laser code matches your receipt.

What it costs in Maharashtra

Prices differ by state and vendor. As an example, Maharashtra has stated these HSRP charges, which include fitment.

Three-wheelerRs 500 plus GST
Car, light, medium or heavy vehicleRs 745 plus GST

Booking for other states

Each state lists its own vendor and prices. Our HSRP number plate guide covers booking state by state.

Number plate design for electric bikes and scooters

The number plate design for electric bikes and scooters uses the same HSRP layout with a green background. Private electric two-wheelers get white characters on green, and commercial ones yellow on green. Low-speed electric scooters that are exempt from registration may not carry a plate at all.

Green plate details

The green plate signals an electric vehicle at a glance. More on how it is issued is on the electric number plate page.

Converted vehicles

A petrol bike converted to electric needs the change approved and recorded before its plate colour can change. A green plate without that approval is not valid.

Stylish number plate numbers: how choice numbers work

The legal way to get a stylish number plate is to choose a stylish number, not a stylish font. During registration, states let owners book a choice number from the open series for a fee, and popular numbers go to auction. The number is then pressed on a standard HSRP.

Booking a number

Choice numbers are booked through the state’s fancy number system linked from Parivahan, before the vehicle is registered. You pay a base fee and bid if others want the same number.

Numbers for an existing vehicle

A registered vehicle usually cannot swap to a choice number without fresh registration. Check your state’s rules before paying anyone who promises a new number.

Which number plate design mistakes cause trouble?

The number plate design mistakes that cause the most trouble are sticker digits on a plain plate, missing front plates, frames that hide characters, plates cut to fit fenders and names or logos added to the plate. Each can lead to a challan and, in some cases, problems at RTO services.

Mistakes at service centres

Service centres sometimes refit plates with ordinary screws after a repair. Ask for a fresh HSRP if the snap locks are broken.

Mistakes after buying used

A used bike may come with a shop plate. Check the plate against the RC and book an HSRP before you ride it daily.

Why must a number plate design stay readable?

The number plate design is fixed so that every plate can be read quickly by police, cameras, toll systems and other road users. A readable plate helps trace stolen vehicles, catch hit-and-run drivers and send challans to the right owner. Stylised plates break that chain.

Cameras and tolls

Number plate reading cameras compare what they see with the Vahan record. A non-standard font can produce a wrong match or none at all.

Your own protection

If your bike is stolen or cloned, a genuine HSRP with a laser code makes it easier to prove which plate belongs to your vehicle.

Number plate design for vehicles registered before April 2019

A vehicle registered before April 2019 may still carry an older number plate design, such as a painted metal or acrylic plate. Many states now require these vehicles to fit HSRP by a set date. Until then, the old plate must still show the number clearly in a plain style.

State deadlines

Deadlines vary. Maharashtra set 30 June 2026, while Telangana’s order set 30 September 2025. Check the current date on your state transport website.

After the deadline

Vehicles without HSRP after a state deadline can be fined and may be refused RTO services such as transfer or address change, as reported in Maharashtra.

A legal plate is made by an authorised HSRP maker appointed for the state and fitted by the dealer or the maker’s fitment centre. For new vehicles the dealer fits it before delivery. For older vehicles the owner books online and goes to the chosen centre.

Plate shops

Local plate shops cannot make an HSRP. They can sell holders and accessories, but any plate they print is not legal.

Home fitment

Some vendors offer home fitment for an extra charge. Make sure the fitter uses snap locks and gives you a receipt with the laser code. For more vehicle services, visit Parivahan Sewa.

Can you redesign a plate after an accident?

You cannot redesign a damaged plate; you replace it. A cracked or bent HSRP should be reported and a new plate booked through the state’s service. Straightening it, repainting the characters or ordering a lookalike from a shop leaves you with a non-standard plate.

Lost or stolen plates

If a plate is lost or stolen, file a police complaint first, because someone could misuse your number. Use the complaint copy when booking the replacement.

Keeping the record clean

The new plate gets a new laser code linked to your vehicle. Keep the receipt with your RC.

Number plate design questions

Can I choose my own number plate design?

No. The plate's font, size, colour and security marks are fixed by the HSRP rules. You can choose only the number itself through the RTO's choice number booking.

Is a stylish bike number plate legal in India?

Not if the style changes the characters, adds pictures or text, or replaces the HSRP. A plain HSRP fitted at the original mount is the only legal plate.

Can I put my name on my bike number plate?

No. Names, surnames, titles and slogans are not part of the registration mark. Put a name sticker on the tank or helmet instead of the plate.

Are logos allowed on number plates?

No. Brand logos, religious symbols, party flags and club badges on the plate area are not allowed. The only symbol on a genuine plate is the maker's hologram.

What is the fine for a fancy number plate?

Officers often use the general penalty in section 177, up to ₹500 for a first offence and ₹1,500 after that. Plates that do not show a valid registration can be treated more seriously under section 192.

Can I use an online editor to make my plate?

You can use it to see how a number looks, but a printed design is not an HSRP. A legal plate comes only from the authorised maker for your state.

Is the IND sticker on a plain plate legal?

No. IND is printed by the plate maker under the hologram. Adding an IND sticker to a plain plate does not turn it into an HSRP.

Do electric bikes have a different plate design?

The layout is the same, but private electric vehicles get white characters on a green background instead of black on white.

Can I move the rear plate to the side of my bike?

Only if the maker offers that mount and the plate stays clearly visible and lit. Side mounts and tail tidies that hide the plate can be fined.

Does my old bike need a new plate design?

Many states have ordered vehicles made before April 2019 to switch to HSRP. Check your state's transport department for the current deadline.

Are Pulsar and Activa plates different?

No. The model does not change the rule. Both use the standard two-wheeler HSRP sizes, with the front and rear plates in the positions the maker designed.

Can I get a number like 0001 or 9999?

Yes, through the state's choice number scheme when the vehicle is registered. Prices depend on the state and the auction.
