What is RTO Mysore West?
RTO Mysore West is the Regional Transport Office that registers vehicles under the code KA 09 in Mysuru. It handles registration, licences and vehicle records for the western half of the city, the western parts of Mysuru taluk and the whole of Nanjangud taluk. Locals still say “Mysore RTO” even though the city is officially Mysuru.

One city, two offices
Mysuru is split between two transport offices. The west side goes to KA 09 and the east side to KA 55 Mysuru East. This page covers both, because most people searching for one end up needing the other.
What you will find here
Addresses as listed, the areas each office serves, nearby codes, how registration works and what to carry. For every Bengaluru office and a wider view of the state, see our RTO Bangalore guide.
KA 09 is which registration and which district?
KA 09 is a Karnataka registration from the Mysuru West office, in Mysuru district. “KA” is the state code and “09” is the office number. A plate such as KA 09 MB 1234 tells you the vehicle was first registered at the western Mysuru office, not where it lives today.
Two codes, far apart
The western office holds a single-digit code, while the eastern office’s KA 55 sits much further down the state list, which shows it was added later.
Spelling on records
You will see Mysore and Mysuru on old and new papers. Both are valid; Vahan now shows Mysuru.
KA 09 which district does it belong to?
The KA 09 which district question has a simple answer: Mysuru district. The office serves the western city suburbs, the western side of Mysuru taluk and Nanjangud taluk to the south. It does not cover Chamarajanagar, Mandya or Kodagu, which have their own codes.
Nanjangud owners
Nanjangud has no office code of its own in the national list, so new vehicles there usually receive a KA 09 number. Confirm on Vahan with your exact address.
Rural western taluks
Hunsur, Piriyapatna, H.D. Kote and K.R. Nagar fall under KA 45 Hunsur, not KA 09, even though they are in the same district.
Where is the RTO Mysore West office?
The national list of transport offices places RTO Mysore West at MG Road, Chamarajapura, Lakshmipura, Mysuru 570004. That is the only address we could confirm. Directory sites sometimes add landmarks, but none of those details is verified by the Karnataka Transport Department, so treat them as hints only.
Writing the address on a form
Use: Regional Transport Office, Mysuru West, MG Road, Chamarajapura, Lakshmipura, Mysuru 570004. Add your application number if you post anything.
Finding it on a map
Search for “RTO Mysuru West, MG Road” with the PIN. A search for just “Mysore RTO” may show the eastern office at Hale Kesare instead.
Which areas come under KA09 RTO?
The national list says the KA09 RTO covers “western Mysuru city suburbs, western parts of Mysuru taluk and Nanjangud taluk”. No official ward or locality table was found, so this guide does not make one up. When an address is entered, Vahan places it in an office automatically, and that result is final.
How the boundary is applied
The jurisdiction follows your address proof. Living near the boundary does not let you pick the office you prefer.
When lists disagree
Insurer and blog pages sometimes assign the same locality to both offices. Where they clash, the Vahan result for your own address wins.
What is RTO Mysore East?
RTO Mysore East is the office with code KA 55. Karnataka added it to share the work of the busy western office as the city spread outward. It serves the eastern Mysuru suburbs, the eastern parts of Mysuru taluk and T. Narasipura taluk, the area around the Kaveri–Kabini confluence.
Same district, separate file
A KA 55 vehicle is still a Mysuru district vehicle. Only the registering office differs, so services for it run through the eastern counter.
Older vehicles in east Mysuru
Many vehicles in the east carry KA 09 because they were registered before KA 55 existed. Their numbers never changed.
KA 55 which registration area does it cover?
The KA 55 which registration search points to Mysuru East. In the national list, it covers the eastern city suburbs, the eastern side of Mysuru taluk and T. Narasipura taluk. A vehicle first registered there gets a KA 55 plate, for example KA 55 P 4321.
T. Narasipura vehicles
T. Narasipura owners register at KA 55, not at KA 09, because the taluk sits in the eastern office’s area.
Neighbouring taluks outside Mysuru
Srirangapatna, just across the district line, belongs to KA 11 Mandya.
Where is the KA 55 RTO?
The KA 55 RTO is listed at Mysuru Ring Road, Hale Kesare, Mysuru 570019. It sits on the outer ring road rather than in the old city centre. As with KA 09, we could not verify a phone number, email or timings, so check the state transport site before visiting.
Map tip
Search “RTO Mysuru East, Hale Kesare” and check that the PIN reads 570019. A pin on MG Road is the western office.
How do KA 09 and KA 55 split Mysuru?
The two offices divide Mysuru roughly by west and east, and each also takes one southern taluk: Nanjangud for KA 09 and T. Narasipura for KA 55. The table below sets out what the national office list says about each one.

| Point | KA 09 Mysuru West | KA 55 Mysuru East |
|---|---|---|
| Listed address | MG Road, Chamarajapura, Lakshmipura | Mysuru Ring Road, Hale Kesare |
| PIN in listing | 570004 | 570019 |
| City area | Western suburbs | Eastern suburbs |
| Taluk area | Western Mysuru taluk, Nanjangud | Eastern Mysuru taluk, T. Narasipura |
| District | Mysuru | Mysuru |
Records follow the owner
If you move from one side to the other, you update the address on the RC and the file moves to the new office. The number on the plate stays.
Why there is no single boundary map
The state has not published a street-level list we could verify. Vahan’s own office match is the reliable test.
What is the Mysore RTO code?
The Mysore RTO code depends on the side of the city: KA 09 for Mysuru West and KA 55 for Mysuru East. The western rural taluks use KA 45 Hunsur. So a “Mysore number” can begin with any of these three, and all of them are genuine Mysuru district registrations.
The usual answer
When someone asks for “the” Mysore code, they usually mean KA 09, the older and better-known office.
Checking a code yourself
Type the code into Vahan’s office drop-down for Karnataka and the office name appears beside it.
How many RTO offices does Mysuru district have?
The national list shows three offices in Mysuru district: KA 09 Mysuru West, KA 55 Mysuru East and KA 45 Hunsur. Hunsur, on RTO Road in the Housing Board Colony (571105), handles Hunsur, Piriyapatna, H.D. Kote and K.R. Nagar taluks.
Why rural plates differ
A farmer in H.D. Kote and a shop owner in central Mysuru live in the same district, yet one plate reads KA 45 and the other KA 09.
Which RTO codes surround Mysuru?
Mysuru shares borders with four districts that each have their own codes. KA 10 covers all of Chamarajanagar district, KA 11 and KA 54 split Mandya, KA 12 covers Kodagu, and KA 13 and KA 46 split Hassan district further north-west.

| Code | Office | Listed address | Jurisdiction |
|---|---|---|---|
| KA 09 | Mysuru West | MG Road, Chamarajapura, 570004 | West Mysuru, Nanjangud |
| KA 55 | Mysuru East | Ring Road, Hale Kesare, 570019 | East Mysuru, T. Narasipura |
| KA 45 | Hunsur | RTO Road, Housing Board Colony, 571105 | Hunsur, Piriyapatna, H.D. Kote, K.R. Nagar |
| KA 10 | Chamarajanagara | Bypass Road, Mallayanapura, 571313 | All of Chamarajanagar district |
| KA 11 | Mandya | RTO Road, Subash Nagara, 571401 | Mandya, Malavalli, Maddur, Srirangapatna, Pandavapura |
| KA 54 | Nagamangala | Basaveshwara Nagara Road, 571432 | Nagamangala, K.R. Pet |
| KA 12 | Madikeri | Abbey Falls Road, 571201 | All of Kodagu district |
| KA 13 | Hassan | Arsikere-Hassan Road, Sri Rama Nagara, 573202 | Hassan and four nearby taluks |
Mixed plates on the highway
On the Bengaluru–Mysuru expressway you will see KA 09, KA 11 and KA 55 side by side. That mix is normal; each plate shows only its origin.
Sakleshpura and Hassan
Hassan’s western taluks of Sakleshpura, Alur and Belur use KA 46, not KA 13.
How do you read a Mysore registration number?
A Mysore registration number has four parts: the state code KA, the office number 09 or 55, one or two series letters, and a running number up to 9999 written with leading zeros. KA 09 HJ 0045 is a western Mysuru vehicle in the HJ series.
The four parts
- KA, Karnataka.
- 09 or 55, the office.
- Series letters, which hint at vehicle type.
- A four-digit unique number.
Origin, not residence
A KA 09 car may now be parked in Hubballi. The mark records first registration only and stays for the vehicle’s life.
What do the series letters on a KA 09 plate mean?
Karnataka uses series letters to group vehicle types. M, N, P and Z go to private passenger vehicles, while E, H, J, K, L, Q, R, S, U, V, W, X and Y go to private two-wheelers. Commercial vehicles use A to D or no letter, G marks state government vehicles, F is for bus corporations and T is for tractors.
Letters never used
I and O are skipped because they look like 1 and 0.
Plate colours
Private vehicles show black on white, commercial vehicles black on yellow, private electric vehicles white on green and temporary marks red on yellow.
How is a new vehicle registered at the RTO office Mysore?
At the RTO office Mysore, new private vehicles are usually registered by the dealer on Vahan. Your address proof sends the file to KA 09 or KA 55, the dealer pays road tax and fees online, and the system allots the next free number in the running series.

- Check your address proof. The address on your proof decides whether Vahan sends the file to KA 09 or KA 55.
- Dealer records the sale. The dealer enters the sale, insurance and your documents on Vahan.
- Tax and fees are paid. Road tax and the registration fee are paid online, normally through the dealer.
- A number is allotted. Vahan gives the next free mark in the running KA 09 or KA 55 series unless you booked a choice number.
- Plates and RC are issued. The dealer fits high security plates and the registration certificate follows.
When the office asks to see the vehicle
Commercial, imported or modified vehicles may need an inspection at the office before the number is issued.
The national process
Our vehicle registration guide explains forms, fees and timelines that apply everywhere in India.
Can you get a Mysore vehicle registration number after moving?
You cannot swap an old number for a fresh Mysore vehicle registration number just because you moved within Karnataka. The number stays; you update the RC address and the record moves to KA 09 or KA 55. A vehicle from another state must be re-registered, which then gives it a Karnataka mark.
Moving from Bengaluru or Hubballi
Apply for an address change on Vahan with your new Mysuru proof. The KA 01 or KA 25 code on the plate remains.
Moving from another state
Start with a No Objection Certificate from the old state’s office. Our NOC certificate guide covers that step.
What services does the Mysuru RTO handle?
Both Mysuru offices handle the normal work of a Karnataka transport office for their own areas: new and transferred registrations, RC address changes, duplicate RCs, loan entries, permits for commercial vehicles, and learner and permanent driving licences. Most tasks begin online and finish with a short counter visit, if one is needed at all.
| Task | Starts on | Counter visit likely? |
|---|---|---|
| New registration | Vahan, via dealer | Rarely for private vehicles |
| Ownership transfer | Vahan | Often, for document checks |
| Address change on RC | Vahan | Depends on the service chosen |
| Hypothecation add or remove | Vahan | Sometimes |
| Duplicate RC | Vahan | Often |
| Learner licence | Sarathi | Depends on test mode |
| Driving test | Sarathi | Yes |
Why “depends” appears
Karnataka changes which services are fully faceless from time to time. The portal tells you at the end whether you must attend.
Buses are elsewhere
KSRTC buses use the F series, which is issued in Bengaluru at KA 57, not in Mysuru.
Which licence tasks need a visit in Mysuru?
The driving test for a permanent licence always needs you in person, with a vehicle of the class you are applying for. Fresh photos and fingerprints may also be taken for some renewals. Learner tests can be online or at the office, depending on what Sarathi offers on the day you apply.
Check the venue on the slip
The Sarathi slip shows the test venue. It may be a track rather than the office building, so read it before you set off.
The test vehicle
Bring a vehicle with a valid RC, insurance and PUC, and L plates if you hold a learner licence.
What documents should you carry to KA 09 or KA 55?
For a visit to either office, carry the printed application, the online payment receipt, the original RC or licence involved, a current address proof, valid insurance and PUC for vehicle work, and your appointment slip. Keep a set of self-attested photocopies with the originals.

Extra papers by task
- Transfer: Forms 29 and 30 and ID for buyer and seller.
- Duplicate RC: police report or affidavit.
- Re-registration: NOC, old RC and tax proof.
Originals are checked
Staff compare each copy with the original. Leaving one at home usually ends the visit.
How do you contact the Mysore RTO and when is it open?
We could not verify the phone numbers, email addresses or opening hours of either Mysuru office from a reliable source. Rather than print details that may be out of date, we suggest taking them from the Karnataka Transport Department’s office list at transport.karnataka.gov.in.
Why directory numbers mislead
Numbers on map and review sites are often old landlines or belong to agents, which can lead to unofficial charges.
Public holidays
Both offices close on Karnataka public holidays, including the Dasara days that are a big event in Mysuru.
How do you book a slot for a Mysuru RTO service?
Slots are booked online. For vehicle work, go to Vahan, pick Karnataka and then Mysuru West or Mysuru East, and complete the service; for licences, use Sarathi. Where a visit is needed, the portal offers a date and produces a slip that names the office.
Picking the right office
If the drop-down shows both offices, choose the one that matches your RC or address proof. A wrong pick can see the application returned.
After payment
Download the receipt and slip at once. You need both at the counter.
How do you check a Mysore RTO registration number online?
To check a Mysore RTO registration number, enter it in the Vahan vehicle search or the mParivahan app. The result shows the registering office, vehicle class, fuel type and validity dates, while owner details stay partly hidden. Our RTO vehicle information guide explains the search step by step.
Reading the office field
If the result says Mysuru West, the vehicle is on the KA 09 register; Mysuru East means KA 55.
Before buying a used vehicle
Check that insurance, loan status and owner count match what the seller told you.
Is BH registration in Karnataka allowed?
Yes, BH registration in Karnataka is allowed. The Bharat series is a central rule notified on 26 August 2021. Karnataka once tried to keep private sector employees out of it, but in December 2022 the Karnataka High Court held that the state notification could not stand against the central one.
Who qualifies
Defence staff, central and state government employees, PSU staff, and employees of private firms with offices in four or more states or UTs can apply. The scheme is voluntary.
What changed in 2024
A MoRTH advisory of 18 March 2024 told state offices to stop refusing BH marks to eligible owners and follow Rule 51B fully.
How does BH series registration Karnataka work for Mysuru owners?
For BH series registration Karnataka owners in Mysuru, a new private vehicle’s dealer submits Form 20 on Vahan and chooses the BH option, with your Form 60 working certificate or government ID attached. The office verifies eligibility and a random mark is generated. Tax is paid for two years or in multiples of two.
Converting a KA 09 or KA 55 vehicle
An existing vehicle can move to BH through Form 27A, after paying the required tax.
More detail
Our BH registration guide covers eligibility papers, tax slabs and what happens when you sell.
Does HSRP apply to KA 09 and KA 55 vehicles?
Yes. On 12 June 2026 the Karnataka Transport Department said high security plates stay mandatory for vehicles registered before 1 April 2019, which includes many KA 09 and KA 55 vehicles. Fines are paused only because a Karnataka High Court case is pending, and enforcement may return once it ends.
How booking works
Start on the SIAM portal, which sends you to your maker’s site. Enter registration, engine and chassis numbers, choose a dealer and slot, and pay online.
Newer vehicles
Vehicles registered from April 2019 should already have HSRP fitted by the dealer.
Can you choose a special Mysore RTO number?
You can ask for a chosen last-four-digit number in the current KA 09 or KA 55 series, for an extra charge. Karnataka has revised that charge several times, so confirm today’s amount with the dealer or the office before you commit, and book it before the vehicle is registered.
Timing matters
Once Vahan allots the next free number, a choice number can no longer be swapped in for that vehicle.
Common mistakes at the Mysuru RTO offices
The commonest errors are simple: going to Hale Kesare when the file sits at MG Road, sending a Hunsur-side address to the city offices, arriving without the payment receipt, or using a proof that still shows an old house. Each one means another trip.

Name mismatches
A name spelt one way on the RC and another on your ID can hold up a transfer. Correct it first.
Expired insurance
Vehicle services are blocked while insurance or PUC has lapsed. Renew before you apply.
Selling a KA 09 or KA 55 vehicle
When you sell, buyer and seller sign Forms 29 and 30 and apply for the transfer on Vahan. The number does not change, even if the buyer lives in Mandya or Bengaluru; only the record moves after the buyer updates the address.
Clear the loan entry
If the RC shows a bank hypothecation, get the lender’s NOC and remove it before the sale.
Keep proof of handover
Keep a dated delivery note signed by the buyer until the RC shows the new name.
