MP 43 RTO code: the Ratlam prefix, its tehsils and nearby codes
The MP 43 RTO code belongs to the transport office at Ratlam in western Madhya Pradesh and covers the whole of Ratlam district. Vehicles first registered to an address in Ratlam, Jaora, Alot, Sailana, Bajna, Raoti, Piploda, Tal or Namli carry it. Most work starts on Vahan or Sarathi, with the office used for tests and inspections.
Key takeaways
- MP 43 = Ratlam district, not only Ratlam city.
- Jaora, Alot and the other nine tehsils have no code of their own; they all register as MP 43.
- Neighbours use Mandsaur MP 14, Ujjain MP 13, Dhar MP 11 and Jhabua MP 45, plus RJ 17 and RJ 35 across the Rajasthan border.
- Ratlam sits in Ujjain division with six other districts, each holding a separate number.
- We do not print an office address or phone number; confirm them on the MP transport department site.

What is the MP 43 RTO code?
The MP 43 RTO code is the registration prefix given out by the transport office of Ratlam district, which lies in the Malwa plateau of western Madhya Pradesh. A vehicle whose owner gave a Ratlam district address at first registration carries it for life, and Vahan names Ratlam as the registering authority.

Place in the MP numbering
Bhopal issues MP 01 to MP 03 as statewide series. District offices start at MP 04, and Ratlam is number 43, between Shajapur (MP 42) and Neemuch (MP 44).
A district formed from two states
Ratlam district was created in 1949 by joining the old princely states of Ratlam and Sailana. Both areas now fall under the one MP 43 office.
Ratlam RTO code: does Jaora or Alot get its own?
No. The Ratlam RTO code is MP 43 for every part of the district, including large towns such as Jaora and Alot in the north. The national RTO list shows a single office at Ratlam with district-wide jurisdiction, and no source we checked gives either town a separate number.
Why people expect a second code
Jaora and Alot are sizeable towns some distance from Ratlam city, so buyers there sometimes assume a local office. Registrations still come out as MP 43.
What the prefix can and cannot tell you
It confirms the district of first registration. It does not reveal the owner’s tehsil, village or current home.
Which tehsils register under MP 43?
Ratlam district covers about 4,861 sq km and had 1,455,069 residents at the 2011 Census. Its nine tehsils are Ratlam, Jaora, Alot, Sailana, Bajna, Raoti, Piploda, Tal and Namli, and the office in Ratlam city registers vehicles from all of them.

North of the city
Jaora, Piploda, Alot and Tal face Mandsaur, Rajasthan and Ujjain. Owners here pick Ratlam in the online office menu.
South and west
Sailana, Bajna, Raoti and Namli lie towards Jhabua, Dhar and Pratapgarh. Your address proof decides the office, not which town is nearer.
How is an MP 43 plate laid out?
Take MP 43 CD 5172 as an example. “MP” names the state, “43” names Ratlam, “CD” is the running letter series and “5172” is the vehicle’s serial. Once a series reaches 9999, the office moves on to the next letters.
Letters are not locations
A Jaora scooter and a Sailana car bought in the same week can share a series. The letters only record when numbers were issued.
Plate colour and HSRP
White plates mark private use and yellow plates commercial use. Vehicles made on or after 1 April 2019 reach the owner with a high security registration plate already fitted.
Which codes do Ratlam’s neighbours carry?
Ratlam touches four Madhya Pradesh districts and two Rajasthan districts. Each of them has its own office and prefix, so plates on Ratlam roads come from a wider area than most MP districts see.
| Neighbouring district | Code | Direction from Ratlam |
|---|---|---|
| Mandsaur | MP 14 | North |
| Jhalawar (Rajasthan) | RJ 17 | North-west |
| Pratapgarh (Rajasthan) | RJ 35 | West |
| Ujjain | MP 13 | East |
| Dhar | MP 11 | South |
| Jhabua | MP 45 | South-west |
Rajasthan plates
RJ 35 and RJ 17 vehicles cross into Ratlam for trade and travel. An RJ plate means Rajasthan registration, nothing more.
Ujjain to the east
The MP 13 RTO code page covers the Ujjain office that serves Nagda and Khachrod across the border.
Where does MP 43 sit in Ujjain division?
Ratlam is one of seven districts in Ujjain division, together with Ujjain, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Dewas, Shajapur and Agar Malwa. The division handles revenue administration, not plates, so each district keeps its own number: MP 13, 14, 41, 42, 43, 44 and 70.
Neemuch and Mandsaur
These two lie in a chain to the north of Ratlam and carry MP 44 and MP 14.
Every MP code in one place
The MP transport guide lists all Madhya Pradesh codes and the state portals, and the RTO codes hub covers other states.
Where is the RTO office Ratlam?
The RTO office Ratlam works from Ratlam city, the district headquarters. We could not confirm its street address, PIN, phone, email or opening hours from a reliable source, so none is printed here.
Where to confirm it
The MP transport department website keeps the official office list, and Parivahan has an RTO directory. Prefer those to listing sites.
Follow your slip
A Vahan or Sarathi appointment receipt names the office and date. Bring it and use it as your guide on the day.
Which services does the RTO office Ratlam provide?
The RTO office Ratlam handles registration, licences, transfers, RC changes, NOCs, permits and fitness for the district. You apply for nearly all of it online, then visit only when a test, inspection or document check is needed.

Fees
Vahan and Sarathi work out the amount for your service and vehicle class at checkout. We list no charges; pay what the portal shows.
Commercial vehicles
Goods carriers and taxis need permits and fitness checks, which involve bringing the vehicle for inspection after booking online.
How do Ratlam buyers get a new vehicle registered?
For most new vehicles, the showroom files the registration on Vahan, collects tax and charges, and the MP 43 number is allotted without the owner visiting the office. The dealer then hands over the plate and the RC follows.
Papers to give the dealer
Identity proof, an address proof within Ratlam district, a photo, an active mobile number and the insurance cover note. Loans add the bank as hypothecation.
Buying outside the district
A showroom in Ujjain or Indore can still register under MP 43 if you give your Ratlam address.
How does a Ratlam resident apply for a driving licence?
Applications go through Sarathi, which Madhya Pradesh runs with MPOnline. You get a learner’s licence first, wait the period the portal states, then book a driving test at the Ratlam office.
Learner stage
Fill in the form, upload documents, pay online and sit the learner’s test. Note the expiry date.
Test day
Bring the learner’s licence, slot slip and a vehicle of the right class with valid papers.
How do you verify an MP 43 registration online?
Vahan’s search and mParivahan show the public record of any MP 43 number: office, vehicle class, fuel, registration date and insurance validity, with the owner’s name masked.
- Open the search. Go to Vahan’s Know Your Vehicle Details page or open mParivahan.
- Type the number. Enter the full MP 43 registration with no spaces and fill the captcha.
- Read the authority. The registering office should say Ratlam.
- Compare with the RC. Check class, fuel, date and insurance against the seller’s RC.
If the details do not match
Pause the deal and ask the seller why before paying anything.
Does an MP 43 number change after a sale or move?
A sale, or a move anywhere in Madhya Pradesh, keeps the MP 43 number. Leaving the state is different: under Section 47 of the Motor Vehicles Act, a vehicle kept in another state for more than 12 months needs a new registration there.
Selling to a buyer
The seller gives notice on Form 29, both parties sign Form 30, and the buyer applies for transfer on Vahan.
Moving to Rajasthan or beyond
Get an NOC through Vahan, clear dues, then re-register in the new state.
Which habits save a wasted trip to the Ratlam office?
Most repeat visits come from choosing the wrong office online, an old mobile number on the RC, an address taken from a listing site, or arriving without originals.

Quick check before leaving
Confirm the office on your slip, pack originals plus copies and make sure your phone can receive the OTP.
