RJ05 which city: Bharatpur, the eastern gateway of Rajasthan
RJ05 which city has a one-word answer: Bharatpur, the district and division headquarters in eastern Rajasthan, about 184 km from Jaipur and 56 km from Agra. The Bharatpur RTO code covers Bharatpur, Bayana and Nadbai, and Wikipedia also lists RJ05 for Deeg town. Before 1989 the area used the RJD, RSD and RRD series. Confirm any plate on Vahan.

RJ05 which city is it?
The quick reply to RJ05 which city is Bharatpur, a city of 252,838 people (2011 census) in the far east of Rajasthan. It is the headquarters of both Bharatpur district and Bharatpur division, and it lies about 189 km from New Delhi, 36 km from Mathura and 56 km west of Agra.

A city with two names
Bharatpur is also called Lohagarh, after the Iron Fort that Maharaja Suraj Mal commissioned in 1732. Wikipedia gives 1733 as the year the city was founded. The fort famously held out against the British siege of 1805.
Part of the capital region
Bharatpur is included in the National Capital Region, so many RJ 05 vehicles travel to Delhi, Gurugram and Noida every day. Seeing an RJ 05 car in a Delhi parking lot is therefore very ordinary.
Why does Bharatpur carry the number 05?
When Rajasthan moved to two-digit office codes in 1989, the original districts were numbered alphabetically. Ajmer took 01, Alwar 02, Banswara 03, Barmer 04 and Bharatpur 05, with Bhilwara following at 06. That is why the code sits so low despite Bharatpur’s eastern location.
What the digits do not tell you
The number records only where a vehicle was first registered. It does not show the owner’s present town, the vehicle’s age or whether it is commercial. Those details sit in the registration record.
Where to see the full RJ list
For every office from RJ 01 to RJ 60, see our guide to RTO Rajasthan codes, which decodes each two-digit number.
Which towns does RTO Bharatpur cover?
RTO Bharatpur serves the residual Bharatpur district, which had 1,475,707 people after Deeg was split off. Wikipedia lists its tehsils as Bharatpur, Bayana, Nadbai, Roopwas (Rupbas), Uchchain, Weir and Bhusawar. The infoboxes for Bayana and Nadbai both give RJ 05 as the plate code.

Bayana
Bayana is a historic tehsil town about 45 km from Bharatpur, on the left bank of the Gambhir river and 33 km from Hindaun. Its fort and Usha Mandir date back many centuries.
Nadbai
Nadbai is a municipality and subdivision headquarters on the Jaipur-Agra rail route, roughly 30 km from Bharatpur Junction. Buses link it to both Jaipur and Bharatpur.
Weir, Bhusawar, Roopwas and Uchchain
These smaller tehsils lie to the south and west of the city. Weir subdivision was divided into Weir and Bhusawar tehsils. Owners here normally register vehicles through the Bharatpur desk unless the record says otherwise.
What happened to Deeg vehicles after the district split?
Deeg district was carved out of Bharatpur and inaugurated on 7 August 2023. It covers nine tehsils: Pahari, Jurhara, Kaman, Seekri, Nagar, Deeg, Janoothar, Kumher and Rarah. Unlike nine other new districts, Deeg was not dissolved in December 2024 and remains in Bharatpur division.
Old numbers stay valid
A plate belongs to the office that issued it, not to the current district map. Vehicles registered at Bharatpur before August 2023 keep their RJ 05 numbers, even if the owner now lives in Deeg district.
The Kaman and Kumher question
Wikipedia’s Deeg town article lists RJ05. The Kaman article gives RJ-64, a code that does not appear in the main Wikipedia RTO list, which stops at RJ 60. We could not confirm it, so read the registering authority on Vahan for any vehicle from Kaman, Kumher or Nagar.
What did Bharatpur plates show before 1989?
Before the two-digit system, Rajasthan used three-letter series. According to the Wikipedia RTO table, Bharatpur vehicles carried RJD, RSD and RRD, while its taxis came from the shared RST series, numbers 1001 to 1500.

Recognising a vintage Bharatpur vehicle
A restored Jeep, Ambassador or tractor with RJD or RSD on the plate is an older Bharatpur registration. Before buying one, ask whether its record has been migrated to Vahan, because paper-era files were not always digitised.

Which RTO codes surround the Bharatpur RTO code?
The Bharatpur RTO code sits among a mix of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh plates. The district borders Deeg to the north, Mathura (UP 85) to the east, Agra (UP 80) and Dholpur (RJ 11) to the south, and Dausa (RJ 29) and Alwar (RJ 02) to the west.
Codes inside Bharatpur division
Bharatpur division groups five districts: Bharatpur, Deeg, Dholpur, Karauli and Sawai Madhopur. Their codes are RJ 05, RJ 11, RJ 34 and RJ 25, with Deeg’s code still unsettled in the sources we checked.
Plates from across the border
| Code | Office | State |
|---|---|---|
| UP 80 | Agra | Uttar Pradesh |
| UP 85 | Mathura | Uttar Pradesh |
Pilgrims heading to Govardhan and Vrindavan, and tourists going on to Agra, mean UP plates are common on Bharatpur roads.
What work does the Bharatpur transport office handle?
Like other district transport offices in Rajasthan, the Bharatpur office deals with vehicle registration, ownership transfer, hypothecation entries, fitness and permits for commercial vehicles, and driving licence tests. Many of these now start online on Parivahan, with a visit only for inspection or biometrics.
Services that start online
New registration by dealers, transfer of ownership, duplicate RC and address change are applied for on the Vahan portal. Licence work runs through the Sarathi portal.
When you still need to visit
Expect to visit for a driving test, a vehicle inspection or document checks the portal cannot complete. Book a slot online first where the service allows it.
Where can you find the RTO Bharatpur address and timings?
We could not verify the current RTO Bharatpur street address, phone number or working hours from a reliable source, so we have not printed them. Aggregator sites often carry outdated details, and offices do move.
Reliable places to look
Check the office list on the Rajasthan Transport Department website, transport.rajasthan.gov.in, or the RTO directory on the Parivahan portal. Both name the current office and contact options.
Before you travel
Call ahead or check the department’s notices for holidays and camp dates. Carry originals and photocopies of every document named in your online application receipt.
How do you check an RJ05 number online?
The quickest way to confirm a Bharatpur plate is the Vahan “Know Your Vehicle Details” service. Sign in with a mobile OTP, enter the full number, and the record shows the model, registration date, fuel type and registering authority, with the owner name partly masked.

- Read the prefix. RJ at the start of the plate means a Rajasthan registration.
- Read the digits. 05 after RJ points to the Bharatpur office.
- Search the full number. Enter it on Vahan or the mParivahan app.
- See the registering authority. The record names the office that issued the number.
Owner details for Rajasthan plates
For more on what the record shows and its privacy limits, see our page on vehicle owner details by number plate in Rajasthan.
Does an RJ05 plate change if the owner moves?
Not within Rajasthan. Moving from Bharatpur to Jaipur or Kota keeps the same RJ 05 number. Under Section 47 of the Motor Vehicles Act, a fresh registration mark is required only when the vehicle is kept in another state for more than 12 months.
Moving to Delhi or Uttar Pradesh
Because Bharatpur is close to Delhi, Mathura and Agra, many owners do cross the state line. Once the 12-month limit is passed, the vehicle must be re-registered in the new state.
Selling an RJ 05 vehicle
A buyer elsewhere in Rajasthan can take over the number through a transfer of ownership. The digits stay; only the owner details change.
Which mix-ups happen with RJ 05 and Bharatpur?
Most confusion comes from reversed digits or shared place names. Knowing the three common traps saves a wrong guess about where a vehicle is from.
RJ 05 versus RJ 50
RJ 50 is Nokha in Bikaner district, hundreds of kilometres away in the Thar. A quick glance can swap the digits, so read the plate twice.
“RJ 5” without the zero
Some people write the code as RJ 5 or RJ5. It is the same Bharatpur office; the official format pads it to two digits.
Bharatpur in another state
Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur is a district in Chhattisgarh, and its vehicles carry CG codes. Only the Rajasthan city uses RJ 05.
Bharatpur RTO code: what else is the area known for?
Owners and visitors often look up the code while touring the area. The city’s best-known landmark is Keoladeo National Park, a bird sanctuary since 1956, a national park since 10 March 1982 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985, with at least 400 bird species recorded.
Deeg Palace
About 32 km from the city, Deeg Palace was built in 1772 as a summer retreat for the Jat rulers of Bharatpur. It now lies in Deeg district.
