0001 number plate price: what the top number costs by state
The 0001 number plate price is set by your state, not by the Centre. For a private car, Delhi, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh start 0001 at ₹5 lakh, and Maharashtra charges ₹5 lakh or ₹6 lakh in Mumbai and other busy districts. Where several people apply, an auction decides the final amount, and winning bids have passed ₹24 lakh.
Key takeaways
- 0001 is the costliest number in almost every state list: ₹5 lakh is the usual floor for a private car in Delhi, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.
- Maharashtra charges a fixed fee of ₹5 lakh, or ₹6 lakh in eight high-demand districts, and up to ₹18 lakh for 0001 from another series.
- Auctions can push 0001 far above the floor; Chandigarh's CH01-CV 0001 sold for ₹24.30 lakh in July 2024.
- 1, 01, 001 and 0001 are the same registration number; the car model, such as a Fortuner, does not change the fee.
- A bike usually pays a lower two-wheeler fee, for example ₹1 lakh in Maharashtra.
- The number fee is separate from the HSRP plate charge, and the number stays with the vehicle record.

What is the 0001 number plate price in India?
The 0001 number plate price in India is a state fee for the first number of a registration series. Most states put 0001 alone in their top group. For a private car the floor is commonly ₹5 lakh, but Chandigarh opens bidding far lower and auctions decide the final figure in most places.

| State | 0001 floor for a private car | How it is allotted |
|---|---|---|
| Delhi | ₹5,00,000 | Auction, category 1 |
| Haryana | ₹5,00,000 | E-auction reserve |
| Haryana (transport vehicle) | ₹1,00,000 | First come, first served |
| Maharashtra | ₹5,00,000, or ₹6,00,000 in eight districts | Listed fee, auction if contested |
| Himachal Pradesh | ₹5,00,000 special fee | Paid before the auction |
| Chandigarh | ₹50,000 reserve (2020 report) | E-auction |
| Kerala | ₹1,00,000 base | Online auction |
Floor, fee or reserve
States use different words. Delhi calls it a minimum reserve price, Haryana a reserve, Himachal a special registration fee and Maharashtra simply a fee. In each case it is the least you pay to take 0001.
Where the money goes
The amount is paid to the state transport department through the portal. It is separate from road tax, insurance and the plate. For other one-time vehicle charges, see our road tax guide.
What is a 0001 number plate?
A 0001 number plate carries the first number of a registration series, such as MH 01 AB 0001. Legally it is an ordinary registration mark. The owner pays extra only because 0001 is taken out of the normal order, in which numbers are handed out one after another as vehicles are registered.

How a series works
Each RTO issues numbers inside a series of letters. A series runs from 0001 to 9999, and when it is used up the next series opens. So 0001 appears again in every new series.
No special rights on the road
A 0001 plate gives no privilege. The plate must follow the same HSRP design as every other vehicle, with the same font, size and colours. Our HSRP number plate guide explains those rules.
Why does 0001 cost more than any other number?
0001 costs the most because it is the number most people want and every series has only one. States price by demand. Single digits sit just below it, then repeated digits and round numbers, and ordinary choice numbers come last at a small fee.
Status and first place
Buyers see 0001 as first in line. Politicians, business owners and film stars often bid for it, which is why the number makes headlines when a new series opens.
One per series
Because a series has a single 0001, supply is tiny. When several people apply in the same series, the auction gives it to whoever bids most.
0001 number plate price in Delhi: the category 1 floor
The 0001 number plate price in Delhi starts at ₹5 lakh. Delhi’s 2014 amendment rules put 0001 alone in category 1 for private four-wheelers. Choice numbers are sold through an open or online auction held every fortnight, so 0001 often ends well above that minimum.
Rule 34A in brief
Rule 34A of the Delhi rules covers non-transport four-wheelers. An allotted number is valid for 90 days, and the fee is forfeited if the car is not registered in time.
Bikes in Delhi
The 2014 slabs refer to cars. For a two-wheeler in Delhi, check the current notice or the amount shown on the portal before paying.
What is the 0001 number plate price in Maharashtra?
The 0001 number plate price in Maharashtra for a car is ₹5 lakh in most districts after a transport department notification of 30 August 2024. Before that it was ₹3 lakh. Two- and three-wheelers pay ₹1 lakh, up from ₹50,000. These figures come from news reports of the notice.

A fee, then an auction only if needed
Maharashtra lists a fixed amount rather than a starting bid. If more than one person wants the same 0001, ask the RTO how it decides between them, as the reports do not explain the tie rule.
Six months to use it
The 2024 notice also extended the reservation period from 30 days to six months, which suits buyers waiting for delivery.
0001 number plate price Mumbai and seven other districts
The 0001 number plate price Mumbai buyers face is ₹6 lakh for a car, up from ₹4 lakh. The same higher rate applies in Mumbai Suburban, Pune, Thane, Raigad, Aurangabad, Nashik and Kolhapur. Other Maharashtra districts pay ₹5 lakh for the same number.
0001 from another series
Taking 0001 from a series that has already moved on costs much more: ₹15 lakh for a car, and up to ₹18 lakh in the busy districts, according to the reports.
Why Mumbai pays more
The higher rate reflects demand. Big cities open new series quickly and see more bidders, so the state charges more at the start.
How much does 0001 cost in Haryana?
In Haryana, 0001 for a private vehicle has an e-auction reserve of ₹5 lakh under rules notified in November 2022. Bidding starts from that amount. A taxi, truck or other transport vehicle does not bid; it pays a flat additional fee of ₹1 lakh on a first-come basis.
Fees around the bid
Haryana asks for a non-refundable application fee of ₹1,000 for numbers with a reserve of ₹50,000 or more, plus 20% bid security. The winner pays the balance within five days.

Why does Himachal charge 0001 bidders upfront?
Himachal Pradesh charges a ₹5 lakh special registration fee for 0001 before a bidder can take part. The state added it in July 2023, after two people bid more than ₹1 crore for a scooter number. The fee is meant to keep out bids that are not serious.
Lower fees for other numbers
The same 2023 rules set ₹75,000 for 0002 to 0010, ₹50,000 for 0011 to 0100 and ₹15,000 for numbers such as 7777 and 1000.
HP-07 exception
Numbers 1 to 10 in the HP-07 series are kept for government vehicles, so 0001 there is not open to the public.
What has 0001 fetched in Chandigarh auctions?
Chandigarh shows how far bids can climb above a low floor. The reserve for 0001 was ₹50,000 in a 2020 report, yet CH01-CV 0001 sold for ₹24.30 lakh in July 2024. The table lists that auction, which raised ₹2.40 crore from 601 numbers.
| CH01-CV number (July 2024) | Winning bid |
|---|---|
| 0001 | ₹24.30 lakh |
| 0009 | ₹10.43 lakh |
| 0007 | ₹9.35 lakh |
| 0005 | ₹7.07 lakh |
| 0004 | ₹5.60 lakh |
| 0008 | ₹5.50 lakh |
| 0002 | ₹5.01 lakh |
| 0003 | ₹4.84 lakh |
Earlier Chandigarh results
In July 2020, CH01 CB 0001 went for ₹5.45 lakh. The Tribune said the city’s highest 0001 bid then was ₹26.05 lakh, for the CH01 AP series in 2012.

More recent reports
A later report put CH01-DC 0001 at ₹31.35 lakh. We could not confirm it with the transport department, so treat it as reported only.
0001 car number price in Telangana auctions
The 0001 car number price in Telangana is set by bidding at each RTA office. When the new TG series opened in March 2024, TG 09 0001 at Khairatabad sold for ₹9,61,111, the highest bid that day. We did not find an official Telangana reserve list for 0001.
A film star’s 0001
Actor Nandamuri Balakrishna won a 0001 at the Hyderabad RTA for ₹7.75 lakh, reported in April 2025.
How booking runs in Telangana
The state uses its own online process. Our RTO fancy number booking Telangana guide covers the steps.
What is the 0001 number plate price in Assam?
We could not confirm the 0001 number plate price in Assam from an official source. Two private guides give very different figures: one about ₹5 lakh, another from ₹1 lakh upward. Since they conflict, we do not list either as the fee. The Assam transport department and the portal give the real amount.
How Assam allots numbers
Guides describe an e-auction on the Parivahan fancy number portal, with Assam selected as the state. Pick your district RTO to see open series.
Before paying in Assam
Look at the amount the portal shows for 0001 at your RTO. That screen, not a blog table, is what you will be charged.
What is the 0001 number plate price in MP?
The 0001 number plate price in MP is not in any official notice we could open. An insurer’s guide puts 0001 in a top group at ₹5 lakh through e-auction, but we could not match that to a Madhya Pradesh order, so treat it as an estimate.
Checking the MP amount
Choose Madhya Pradesh and your RTO on the fancy portal. The fee for 0001 appears before payment.
Ask the RTO
If 0001 is not listed online, the RTO can tell you whether it is allotted at the counter or held for auction.
How high does the 1 number plate price go in Kerala?
In Kerala the 1 number plate price starts from a base of ₹1 lakh, the highest of the state’s six fancy number groups, and then rises in an online auction. KL 01 CK 1 cost ₹31 lakh including a ₹1 lakh fee, which reports call a state record.
Other Kerala number 1 results
KL 01 CB 1 went for ₹18 lakh and KL 08 BL 1 for ₹17.15 lakh, according to Onmanorama.
Kerala writes it as 1
Kerala plates often show the number as 1 rather than 0001. It is the same mark, priced the same way.
Where else does 0001 draw big bids?
Punjab, Karnataka and Gujarat also see heavy bidding. In Ludhiana, PB 10 KD 0001 fetched ₹18.73 lakh against a ₹1 lakh reserve. KA 01 MV 0001 in Bengaluru reached about ₹10 lakh in 2020. Gujarat has its own list.
Gujarat 0001
Gujarat’s reserve and auction rules are covered in our 0001 number plate price in Gujarat guide.
State lists in one place
For slab tables across many numbers, see the VIP number plate price guide.
What is the 0001 number plate price for car owners?
The 0001 number plate price for car owners is the four-wheeler rate in your state: ₹5 lakh in Delhi, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, and ₹5 lakh or ₹6 lakh in Maharashtra. These are opening amounts. A popular series in a big city often ends far higher.
Private vs commercial car
A taxi is a transport vehicle. In Haryana it pays a flat ₹1 lakh for 0001 instead of bidding from ₹5 lakh.
Timing matters for cars
The best chance of 0001 is in the first days of a new series. Ask the dealer when your RTO’s next series opens.
What is the 0001 number plate price for bike owners?
The 0001 number plate price for bike owners is usually lower, where a state lists two-wheelers separately. Maharashtra charges ₹1 lakh for a two- or three-wheeler 0001 in the current series and ₹3 lakh from another series. Delhi’s 2014 slabs cover cars only.

Separate series for bikes
Two-wheelers often get their own series, so the bike 0001 and the car 0001 are different numbers with separate bidders.
Scooters count too
A scooter is a two-wheeler for this purpose. Himachal’s 2023 rules were triggered by a bid on a scooter number.
Fortuner 0001 number plate price: does the model matter?
The Fortuner 0001 number plate price is exactly the same as for any other private car in that state. Fees depend on the state, the vehicle category and the series, not the brand or model. A Fortuner, a hatchback and a luxury SUV pay the same floor for 0001.
Why Fortuner shows up in searches
Large SUVs are popular with buyers who also want a top number, so the two often appear together in photos and posts.
The bid can still differ
In an auction, the amount depends on who else wants the number, not on the car each bidder drives.
Is the 1 number plate price the same as 0001?
Yes. The 1 number plate price is the 0001 price. Software stores the number with leading zeros, and states write it in their lists as 0001. A plate may show 1 or 0001, but it is a single registration mark with one fee.
Why people search for 1
Many owners simply say “number 1”. Kerala results, for example, are reported as KL 01 CK 1.
Same rules apply
Bidding, validity and refund terms are identical whichever way the number is written.
1 number plate price in India: comparing the states
The 1 number plate price in India varies widely by state. A floor of ₹5 lakh is common for cars in northern states, Chandigarh’s reserve was much lower, and Kerala’s base is ₹1 lakh. Final prices in all of them depend on bidding.
High floors
Delhi, Haryana and Himachal open at ₹5 lakh. Maharashtra sets ₹5 lakh to ₹6 lakh as a fee.
Low floors, high bids
Chandigarh and Punjab start low, yet top bids have passed ₹18 lakh. A low starting point often draws more bidders.
Is a 001 number plate price different from 0001?
No. The 001 number plate price is the 0001 price. A registration number has up to four digits, so 001 and 0001 are the same value. There is no separate three-digit number with its own fee.
Why 001 appears
Some people drop a zero when writing or searching. The portal will always show it as 0001.
Check the full mark
What makes a 0001 unique is the full mark, such as DL 3C AB 0001. The state code, RTO and series letters decide which 0001 you get.
What does 01 number plate price mean?
The 01 number plate price search usually means the 0001 number, written short. It can also be confused with the RTO code, because many cities have an 01 office, such as MH 01 for Mumbai Central. The 01 district code is not something you buy; it comes with your address.
District code vs number
In MH 01 AB 0001, the first 01 is the RTO district and the last 0001 is the number you pay for.
What to search for
On the portal, choose your RTO first, then look for 0001 in the open series.
What 0001 number price do buyers actually pay?
The 0001 number price a buyer pays is the floor if nobody else applies, or the winning bid if others do. In small RTOs 0001 can go near the floor. In a big-city series, the final amount is often four or five times the floor.
Example gap
In Chandigarh, a reserve of ₹50,000 in 2020 turned into a ₹5.45 lakh sale that same year.
Extra amounts
Add the application fee where your state charges one. In Haryana it is ₹1,000 for top numbers.
0001 no plate price: number fee vs plate charge
The 0001 no plate price has two parts. The number fee goes to the state for choosing 0001. The plate itself is a standard HSRP, charged like any other: in Maharashtra, ₹745 plus GST for a car and ₹450 plus GST for a two-wheeler, including fitment.
No premium plate
You cannot buy a special metal or gold plate for 0001. The plate must be the approved HSRP.
Who fits the plate
New vehicles get the plate from the dealer. For replacements, use the state’s HSRP booking portal.
What is the single digit number plate price?
The single digit number plate price covers 0001 to 0009. 0001 sits alone at the top, and 0002 to 0009 are grouped below it at lower floors. Delhi charges ₹3 lakh for the rest of the single digits, Haryana ₹1 lakh to ₹1.5 lakh and Himachal ₹75,000.
| Single digit (private car) | Delhi floor | Haryana reserve | Himachal special fee | Slab |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0001 | ₹5,00,000 | ₹5,00,000 | ₹5,00,000 | Top slab everywhere |
| 0002, 0007, 0009 | ₹3,00,000 | ₹1,50,000 | ₹75,000 | Second in Haryana |
| 0003 to 0006, 0008 | ₹3,00,000 | ₹1,00,000 | ₹75,000 | Third in Haryana |
Gap between 0001 and 0002
In Haryana, 0001 starts at more than three times the reserve for 0002. In Delhi the gap is smaller.

0007 has its own fans
0007 often sells close to 0009. See our 0007 number plate price guide.
Price of 0009 number plate compared with 0001
The price of 0009 number plate is usually the second highest after 0001. Floors for a car are ₹3 lakh in Delhi, ₹1.5 lakh in Haryana, ₹2.5 lakh in Maharashtra and ₹75,000 in Himachal. In Chandigarh’s July 2024 auction, 0009 sold for ₹10.43 lakh against ₹24.30 lakh for 0001.
Why 0009 is popular
Nine is widely seen as lucky, so 0009 is often the main target for buyers who miss out on 0001.
Earlier result
In 2020, Chandigarh’s 0009 went for ₹2.20 lakh, while 0001 in the same auction fetched ₹5.45 lakh.
What is the 5 number plate price?
The 5 number plate price means 0005. Delhi starts it at ₹3 lakh for a car, Haryana at ₹1 lakh and Himachal at ₹75,000. At auction, TG 09 0005 sold for ₹2,21,000 in Hyderabad in 2024 and CH01-CV 0005 for ₹7.07 lakh in Chandigarh.
Lower demand than 0001
0005 rarely draws the crowd that 0001 does, so it often ends closer to its floor in smaller towns.
Same process
You apply, pay and bid for 0005 exactly as you would for 0001.
7777 number plate price in four states
The 7777 number plate price falls in a middle group. Delhi places 7777 in category 3 at ₹2 lakh, Haryana in its ₹50,000 group and Himachal at ₹15,000. Kerala auctioned KL 27 M 7777 for ₹7.85 lakh in 2024.
| 7777 and 1000 | Delhi floor | Haryana reserve | Himachal special fee | Group |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7777 | ₹2,00,000 | ₹50,000 | ₹15,000 | Repeated digits |
| 1000 | ₹2,00,000 | ₹50,000 | ₹15,000 | Round thousand |
The Kerala 7777 sale
The KL 27 M 7777 number went on a Land Rover Defender at Thiruvalla RTO, after heavy bidding, according to Onmanorama.
Other repeat digits
1111 follows a similar pattern. Our 1111 number plate price guide covers it.
What is the 1000 number plate price?
The 1000 number plate price matches 7777 in the three lists we checked: ₹2 lakh in Delhi, ₹50,000 in Haryana and ₹15,000 in Himachal. Round thousands are popular for their clean look, but they sit well below 0001.
Other round numbers
Himachal also prices 2000 and 5000 at ₹15,000. Delhi puts 2000 and 5000 lower than 1000, in category 4.
Maharashtra
The 2024 reports did not name 1000’s group in Maharashtra, so check the amount on the portal.
Is the 1 number price the same in every series?
The 1 number price is the same floor in every series of one state, but the final amount is not. Each new series is a fresh auction. One series may see a single applicant at the floor, while the next draws a bidding war worth lakhs.
Out-of-series rules
Maharashtra charges far more for 0001 from a series that has already opened earlier. Other states may not allow it at all.
Track series openings
Our open series status guide explains how to see which series is live at your RTO.
Rao 1 number plate price: is there a special series?
There is no Rao 1 number plate price in any state list we found. Rao is a surname, and Indian plates cannot carry names. The search likely comes from people who want 0001 because of a social media trend or a family tradition, and they pay the normal state fee.
Names on plates are not allowed
Writing a name, title or caste on a number plate breaks plate rules. Only the allotted registration mark may appear.
What a Rao family can do
Apply for 0001 like anyone else on the portal. The fee is the same for every applicant.
What does RRR 0001 number plate price refer to?
The RRR 0001 number plate price search has no clear official meaning. We found no state that issues a series written as RRR, and no notified fee for it. RRR is also the title of a 2022 Telugu film, which may explain some searches. If a series with those letters exists at your RTO, 0001 in it costs the normal 0001 fee.
Series letters you can pick
You cannot choose the series letters. The RTO issues series in order, and you can only pick the number inside the open one.
Beware fake offers
Posts selling “RRR” or other letter-pattern plates outside the RTO are not legal allotments.
RRR 0066 number plate India: what the search means
The RRR 0066 number plate India search mixes a letter pattern with a choice number. 0066 is a repeated-digit number, which Haryana prices at a ₹75,000 reserve and Delhi at ₹2 lakh. We could not verify that any “RRR” series exists, so we cannot say more about that exact plate.
What 0066 costs
In Haryana, 0066 sits with 0022, 0033 and other repeats at ₹75,000. In Delhi, 0010 to 0099 fall in category 3.
Check the real plate
To check who owns an existing plate, see our vehicle owner details by number plate guide.
What is the number plate value of a 0001 registration?
The number plate value of 0001 is what you paid to get it, not an asset you can sell. A registration mark belongs to the vehicle record kept by the RTO. If you sell the car, the number goes with it. You cannot sell the number alone.

Resale of the car
A car with 0001 may attract buyers, but the transfer is a normal ownership change through Vahan.
Transfer fees
Some states allow a number to be moved to a new vehicle for a fee. Haryana lists ₹2,000 to transfer or change an assigned mark.
How do you apply for 0001 online?
To apply for 0001 online, check that the number is open in your RTO’s current series, create a public user account on the Vahan fancy portal, pay the fee, bid if others apply, and then pay any balance and register the vehicle. The steps are below.
- Check the series. Find out whether 0001 is open in the current series at your RTO, or when the next series will open.
- Register on the fancy portal. Create a public user account on the Vahan fancy number portal with your mobile number and email.
- Pay the fee. Choose 0001 and pay the reserve, registration or application amount your state asks for.
- Bid if others apply. If more people want the same 0001, raise your bid during the auction window.
- Pay the balance and register. Pay any balance on time, print the allotment letter and register the vehicle before it expires.
Apply before registration
0001 has to be booked before the vehicle is registered. Once a normal number is issued, it cannot be swapped for 0001.

Use the official site only
Type the address yourself and avoid links in messages. Genuine fancy number pages end in gov.in.
How does bidding for 0001 work?
Bidding for 0001 opens only if two or more people apply in the same series. Each bidder can raise the amount during a fixed window, and the highest bid at the close wins. Delhi holds auctions every fortnight; Haryana runs bidding cycles on the portal.
Bid security
Haryana asks for 20% of the reserve as security before bidding. For a ₹5 lakh 0001, that is a large deposit.
When no one else applies
If you are the only applicant, you get 0001 at the floor, without a bidding war.
Which payments come back if you lose a 0001 bid?
Losing bidders usually get the bid security back but not the application fee. Haryana refunds the 20% security within 15 days and keeps the non-refundable fee of ₹1,000. Rules differ, so read your state’s terms before you pay.
If you win and do not pay
A winner who misses the balance deadline loses the deposit, and the number goes back for allotment.
Where refunds go
Refunds normally return to the account used for payment. Keep the receipt number in case you need to follow up.
How long is a 0001 allotment valid?
A 0001 allotment is valid for a fixed time. Delhi and Haryana give 90 days to register the vehicle, and Maharashtra six months since 2024. In Haryana the winner pays the balance in five days and gets the assignment letter within seven days of full payment.

Holding without a vehicle
Haryana lets a holder keep an unassigned number for up to 180 days. After that, it returns to the department.
Delivery delays
If your car’s delivery may be late, pick a state with a longer window or wait for the vehicle to be confirmed before bidding.
Can you keep 0001 when you change cars?
Some states let you move or retain a choice number on a new vehicle for a fee, but rules vary. Haryana lists a ₹2,000 fee to transfer or change an assigned mark. Others allow retention only in set cases. Ask your RTO before selling the old car.
Sell or retain
If you sell the old car without first applying for retention, the number usually goes to the buyer with the car.
Same owner name
Retention generally needs the new vehicle in the same owner’s name and registered with the same authority.
Can you buy a car that already wears 0001?
Yes, you can buy a used car that already has 0001, through a normal ownership transfer at the RTO. The number stays with the car. What you cannot do is buy the number alone from a private seller or an agent.
Check before buying
Confirm the registration details on Vahan before you pay. Make sure the seller’s name matches the record.
Avoid number-only deals
Ads offering 0001 for sale without a car are not valid allotments and can be a fraud.
What are the highest bids ever paid for 0001?
The highest 0001 bids we could trace from news reports run past ₹24 lakh in Chandigarh and ₹31 lakh for Kerala’s number 1. The list below uses reported figures only, so treat them as reported results, not prices you will pay.
| Number and place | Reported amount |
|---|---|
| KL 01 CK 1, Thiruvananthapuram | ₹31 lakh including a ₹1 lakh fee |
| CH01 AP 0001, Chandigarh (2012) | ₹26.05 lakh |
| CH01-CV 0001, Chandigarh (2024) | ₹24.30 lakh |
| PB 10 KD 0001, Ludhiana | ₹18.73 lakh |
| KA 01 MV 0001, Bengaluru (2020) | ₹10 lakh |
| TG 09 0001, Hyderabad (2024) | ₹9,61,111 |
Records for any number
Other numbers have sold for even more. Our most expensive number plate in India guide tracks those.
Reports can differ
News outlets sometimes give different amounts for the same sale. We list the figure from the source named.
How should you set a budget for a 0001 bid?
Set your budget before bidding opens. Start with your state’s floor, add any application fee and bid security, and then decide the most you will pay. Past results in your city are the best guide: a big-city 0001 can go for several times the floor.

Build in deadlines
Keep the balance ready, because Haryana gives only five days after the bid closes.
Have a fallback
If 0001 goes too high, 0009 or 0007 in the same series may come in well under your limit.
Is 0001 worth the money?
Whether 0001 is worth it depends on what it means to you. It gives no legal benefit, does not change road tax or insurance and cannot be sold on its own. For some buyers it is a matter of pride; for others an ordinary choice number gives the same personal touch at a fraction of the cost.
Cheaper personal numbers
A birth year or a favourite pattern usually costs the lowest slab, such as ₹20,000 in Delhi and Haryana.
Final check
Whatever you choose, confirm the current fee for your RTO on the portal on the day you apply.

What is the cheapest place to get 0001?
Among the lists we checked, Chandigarh has the lowest opening amount, with a reserve of ₹50,000 reported in 2020. Bids there still often end above ₹20 lakh, so a low floor does not mean a low final price.
Is 0001 the same price for a bike and a car?
No, where the state keeps separate lists. Maharashtra charges ₹1 lakh for 0001 on a two- or three-wheeler against ₹5 lakh or ₹6 lakh for a car.
Does a Fortuner or a luxury car pay more for 0001?
No. The fee depends on the state, the vehicle category and the series. The make, model and price of the car play no part.
Is 1 number plate price different from 0001?
No. A number written as 1, 01, 001 or 0001 is the same registration mark. On the plate it appears as 0001 or 1 depending on the series format.
Can I get 0001 without bidding?
Yes, if nobody else applies for it in that series. You then pay the floor or listed fee. Maharashtra publishes a fixed fee for 0001 rather than a starting bid.
Is the 0001 fee refundable if I lose?
The application or registration fee usually is not. Haryana returns the 20% bid security to losing bidders within 15 days, but keeps the application fee.
How long do I have to register after winning 0001?
Delhi and Haryana give 90 days. Maharashtra extended its reservation period to six months in 2024. After that, the number lapses.
Can I sell my 0001 number to someone else?
Not on its own. The number is part of the vehicle record. It moves to a new owner only if the vehicle itself is sold and transferred through the RTO.
Is there a 0001 for every series?
Yes. Each new series at an RTO starts again from 0001, so the number returns every time a series opens.
Does 0001 lower or raise my road tax?
Neither. Road tax depends on the vehicle price, type and fuel. The 0001 fee is a separate one-time charge.
What is the 0001 number plate price in Gujarat?
Gujarat runs its own reserve list and online auction. Our separate Gujarat guide covers it.
Why did Himachal make 0001 bidders pay first?
The state added a special registration fee in 2023 after bids of more than ₹1 crore were placed for a scooter number. For 0001 it is ₹5 lakh, paid before taking part.
