0000 number plate price and what 4444, 0786 and 5000 really cost

By , Editor and reviewer · Updated · 14 min read · Independent guide, not a government website

In short

There is no official 0000 number plate price, because Indian registration numbers run from 0001 to 9999 and no RTO allots 0000. Popular look-alikes do have fees: 4444 starts at ₹1 lakh in Delhi and ₹50,000 in Haryana, 0786 at ₹2.5 lakh for a car in Maharashtra, and an ordinary pick such as 8055 at about ₹20,000.

Key takeaways

  • 0000 is never issued. A series starts at 0001 and ends at 9999, so any seller offering 0000 is not offering a legal registration.
  • 4444, 5000 and 0222 share Delhi's category 4 floor of ₹1 lakh; Haryana puts 4444 and 0222 at ₹50,000.
  • 0786 is dearer than most repeats: ₹2.5 lakh for a car in Maharashtra and ₹2 lakh in Delhi.
  • 8055 is usually an ordinary choice number at the basic slab, around ₹20,000 in Delhi and Haryana.
  • You cannot choose series letters such as RRN or RRR; you pick only the four digits in the series that is open.
  • The number fee is separate from the HSRP plate charge, and an auction can raise it if others apply.

What is the 0000 number plate price?

The 0000 number plate price does not exist as an official fee. Indian registration numbers inside a series run from 0001 to 9999, so no RTO can allot 0000. People searching for it usually want a striking repeated number, and the real choices nearby, such as 4444 or 0222, do carry listed state fees.

Why people search for 0000

Four zeros look clean and rare on a bumper. Buyers who see 0001 sell for lakhs often assume 0000 must be even more exclusive, and they search for its price. The honest answer is that the number simply sits outside the legal range.

Closest real alternatives

If you want a plate that looks uniform, the nearest real options are repeated digits such as 4444, round numbers like 5000, or triples such as 0222. Each is priced by your state, and this page compares them below.

Why does no RTO issue a 0000 number plate?

An RTO hands out numbers in order as vehicles are registered, starting at 0001 in each new series. When 9999 is used, the next set of series letters opens and the count restarts at 0001. Zero is never a vehicle number, so 0000 never appears in the Vahan registration database.

How the four parts fit together

A registration mark has a two-letter state code, a two-digit RTO code, up to three series letters and the number. In MH 12 AB 4444, the 4444 is the only part you can pick by paying a choice fee.

What happens if you try

The fancy number portal lists only marks that are still open in a live series. 0000 will not show as an option, and a request at the counter cannot create it either.

Can a bike or car get 0000?

No vehicle can get 0000, whether a scooter, a car or a truck. The range rule applies to every vehicle class and every state. A plate printed with 0000 would not match any registration certificate, and it would fail any check against the vehicle record.

Two-wheelers follow the same range

Bike series use the same 0001 to 9999 count. Some states price choice numbers on two-wheelers lower, but none of them adds 0000 to the list.

Commercial and electric vehicles

Yellow, green and other plate colours change only the background and lettering. They do not change the number range, so 0000 is missing there too.

What are sellers of 0000 plates really offering?

A website or social media post selling a “0000 registration” is selling a printed plate, not a number. Only the state transport department can allot a registration mark through Vahan. A plate that does not match the RC can lead to a fine and trouble at any RTO service.

Do's and don'ts for buying choice numbers and avoiding fake 0000 or RRR plate offers
A legal number always comes with an RTO allotment, never just a printed plate.

Signs of a fake offer

Watch for sellers who promise a number without an RTO allotment letter, ask for payment to a personal account, or claim they can unlock “hidden” series. None of these is part of the legal process.

What the law expects on the plate

Every vehicle must carry a high security registration plate with standard embossed characters. Our HSRP number plate guide explains the rules for font, size and colours.

4444 number plate price: which slab it falls in

The 4444 number plate price depends on the state group it is placed in. Most lists treat four repeated digits as a popular number but not a top one. In Delhi it sits in category 4, in Haryana in the ₹50,000 group, and in Himachal in a small ₹15,000 group.

Why 4444 is not in the top group

States reserve their highest floors for 0001 and the single digits. Repeated four-digit numbers come next, with 0786 and 1111 often one step above 4444.

Same number, different series

Each new series at your RTO has its own 4444. If one is gone, the next series will offer it again at the same floor.

What does 4444 cost in Delhi and Haryana?

Delhi lists 4444 at a ₹1 lakh minimum reserve for a private four-wheeler, alongside 2222, 3333 and 5555. Haryana’s 2022 rules put it at a ₹50,000 reserve for non-transport vehicles, so the same digits cost half as much across the border.

Extra Haryana charges

Haryana adds a non-refundable application fee of ₹1,000 for marks with a reserve of ₹50,000 or more, plus bid security of 20% of the reserve, which losing bidders get back.

Taxis and goods vehicles

In Haryana, a transport vehicle pays a fixed extra fee of ₹20,000 for 4444 on a first come, first served basis, with no auction.

How does Himachal price 4444?

Himachal Pradesh charges a ₹15,000 special registration fee for 4444, paid before you can join the bidding. The same group covers 9999, 7777, 1000, 2000 and 5000. The state introduced this upfront fee in 2023 to stop casual bids that were never paid.

Fee first, then bid

Unlike a reserve price, the Himachal fee is paid simply to take part. If several people pay it, the auction decides who wins.

Compared with Delhi

At ₹15,000, Himachal’s entry amount for 4444 is far below Delhi’s ₹1 lakh floor, although a busy auction can close the gap.

5000 number plate price across states

The 5000 number plate price follows the round-number groups in each list. Delhi places 5000 in category 4 with a ₹1 lakh reserve, the same as 4444. Himachal charges ₹15,000. The Haryana extract we read does not name 5000, so check its group on the portal.

Round thousands as a set

Delhi groups 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000, 7000, 8000 and 9000 together. If you want any round thousand there, expect the same floor.

When the list is silent

If your number is not named in a higher group, most states charge their basic choice fee for it. Confirm on the fancy portal, which shows the amount when you select the number.

Why is 5000 cheaper than 1000 in Delhi?

Delhi puts 1000 in category 3 at ₹2 lakh, but 5000 in category 4 at ₹1 lakh. The first round thousand draws more demand, much like 0001 in a series, so the state set a higher floor for it. Himachal, by contrast, charges both the same ₹15,000.

Demand shapes the slabs

States build these lists from past auction interest. Numbers with a clear “first” feel, such as 1000 and 1111, tend to rise a slab.

Budget tip

If you like round numbers and live in Delhi, 5000 or 2000 gives a similar look at half the reserve of 1000.

What is the 0222 number plate price?

The 0222 number plate price is ₹1 lakh as a minimum reserve in Delhi and ₹50,000 as a reserve in Haryana for a private vehicle. For a Haryana transport vehicle the fixed extra fee is ₹20,000. Other states may place it in a lower group, so check before you apply.

Reading 0222 on the plate

On the plate it shows as 0222, with the leading zero. A search for “222” refers to the same mark.

Is 0222 easy to get?

It is less contested than 0001 or 0786, so in many series a single applicant takes it at the floor without bidding.

Is 0222 priced like 0111 and 0333?

Yes, in the lists we checked. Delhi’s category 4 names 0111, 0222, 0333 and the other triples up to 0999 together at ₹1 lakh. Haryana also groups 0111, 0222, 0333 and similar marks in its ₹50,000 slab, so these numbers usually move as one set.

Where they differ

Haryana puts 0100 in a higher ₹75,000 group, while 0111 and 0222 stay at ₹50,000. A small change in digits can change the slab.

Maharashtra’s groups

Maharashtra’s 2024 revision names some numbers in each group, but the reports we read did not list 0222. The portal shows its exact amount.

786 number plate price: why it sits higher

The 786 number plate price is higher than most repeated numbers because 0786 is in strong demand across states. Delhi lists it in category 3 at ₹2 lakh, Haryana at ₹75,000 for a private vehicle and Maharashtra at ₹2.5 lakh for a car. That puts it a slab above 4444 or 0222.

Many buyers see 786 as an auspicious number, so states treat it like 1111 or 9999 rather than an everyday pick.

Transport vehicles

Haryana charges ₹30,000 for 0786 on a transport vehicle, again higher than the ₹20,000 for most repeats.

What does 0786 cost in Maharashtra?

Maharashtra’s notification of 30 August 2024 sets 0786 at ₹2.5 lakh for a four-wheeler and ₹50,000 for a two- or three-wheeler. It shares this group with 0009, 0099, 0999 and 9999. Before the revision, the car fee was ₹1.5 lakh.

Longer reservation in Maharashtra

The same 2024 change extended how long a reserved number stays with you from 30 days to six months, which helps if your vehicle delivery is late.

Big-city districts

Maharashtra charges more for 0001 in Mumbai, Pune and six other districts. The reports did not show a separate city rate for 0786.

Is 786 the same as 0786 on a plate?

Yes. 786 and 0786 are the same registration number. The four-digit field on the plate shows leading zeros, so it reads 0786. State fee lists also write it as 0786. Whether you search 786 or 0786, the fee and the slab are the same.

How it appears on HSRP

The number is embossed in the standard HSRP font. You cannot drop the zero or style the digits to make them look like a word.

Older plates

Some older vehicles show 786 without the zero. That is a display difference only; the registration record is the same.

What is the 8055 number plate price india buyers pay?

The 8055 number plate price india buyers usually pay is the basic choice fee. Delhi does not name 8055 in its higher categories, so it costs ₹20,000 there, and Haryana charges ₹20,000 for an ordinary choice mark. Our VIP number plate price guide covers the wider list of basic and premium slabs.

First come, first served

Because few people compete for 8055, it normally goes to the first applicant at the listed fee, without an auction.

Check your state’s basic fee

Maharashtra’s lowest listed group is ₹25,000 for a car. If 8055 is not named there, the portal shows the amount for an unlisted pick.

Why do buyers want 8055?

Buyers like 8055 because the digits can resemble the word “BOSS”. That appeal is personal; the state treats 8055 as an ordinary number. Under HSRP rules the digits must appear in the standard font, so styling them to spell a word is not allowed.

Five steps to book a fancy registration number like 4444 or 0786 on the Vahan portal
If nobody else applies, the number is yours at the listed amount.

Other look-alike numbers

Some buyers pick numbers that look like names or dates. Unless the state list names them, they cost the basic choice fee.

Stickers, extra symbols or curved fonts on the plate are not permitted, whatever number you hold.

What does RRN 1111 number plate price mean?

The RRN 1111 number plate price search mixes series letters with the number 1111. We found no state that sells an “RRN” series as a product. 1111 itself is a premium choice number: ₹2 lakh in Delhi’s category 3 and ₹50,000 in Haryana. Our 1111 number plate price guide covers it in full.

Letters come from the RTO

Series letters are issued in order. If an RRN series ever opens at your RTO, its 1111 would cost the normal 1111 fee.

No premium for letters

None of the state lists we read charges extra for particular series letters. The fee is set by the four digits.

RRR 0066 number plate price: can you pick the letters?

You cannot pick the letters, so an “RRR” plate cannot be bought on demand. The RRR 0066 number plate price therefore comes down to 0066 alone. Delhi places 0010 to 0099 in category 3 at ₹2 lakh, and Haryana puts repeated pairs like 0066 at a ₹75,000 reserve.

Why RRR draws searches

RRR is also the title of a 2022 Telugu film, which likely explains some searches. It has no meaning in the registration rules.

Out-of-series numbers

Maharashtra lets buyers take some numbers from an older series at a higher fee, but that still picks a number, not new letters.

Which of these numbers costs the most?

Of the numbers on this page, 0786 usually costs the most, followed by 1111 and 0066 in Delhi, then 4444, 5000 and 0222, with 8055 at the bottom. 0000 has no price at all. Single digits cost more still; for those, see our guide on the price of 0009 number plate and 0001.

Quick answers on 0000, 8055, 0786 choice number prices and whether the plate is included
Four answers most buyers need before they open the fancy number portal.

Rank in Delhi

0786, 1111 and 0066 sit at ₹2 lakh, then 4444, 5000 and 0222 at ₹1 lakh, and 8055 at ₹20,000.

Rank in Haryana

0786 and 0066 at ₹75,000, 4444, 0222 and 1111 at ₹50,000, then ordinary picks like 8055 at ₹20,000.

What do these numbers cost on a two-wheeler?

Two-wheeler fees are usually lower where a state keeps a separate list. Maharashtra charges ₹50,000 for 0786 on a two- or three-wheeler, against ₹2.5 lakh for a car, and its lowest group is ₹6,000 for a bike. Delhi’s 2014 list applies only to non-transport four-wheelers.

Kerala’s range

Kerala’s motor vehicles department uses six categories with base prices from ₹3,000 to ₹1 lakh. Check the category for your number on the portal.

Why bikes pay less

Demand for premium bike numbers is lower, and states set their slabs to match the vehicle’s value and use.

How do you book 4444, 5000 or 0786 online?

You book a choice number on the Vahan fancy number portal or your state’s own system. Create an account, pick a number still open at your RTO, pay the listed fee and wait for the result. If someone else applies for the same number, an online auction decides who gets it.

  1. Sign up on the portal. Register as a new public user with your mobile number and email.
  2. Choose your number. Select 4444, 0786, 5000 or another mark open in the current series.
  3. Pay the fee. Pay the reserve, registration or application amount your state lists.
  4. Bid if others apply. Raise your bid during the auction window if the number is contested.
  5. Collect the allotment. Pay any balance, download the letter and register the vehicle in time.

Documents you need

Keep your ID, address proof and vehicle details ready. The portal asks for the details your state needs at each step.

Timing

Book when a new series is about to open at your RTO, because popular numbers go quickly once it starts.

What if two people want the same number?

When two or more people apply for the same number, the state runs an online auction. The highest bidder wins and pays the balance. In Haryana the balance is due within five days after bidding closes, and losing bidders get their 20% bid security back within 15 days.

What you lose if you lose

The application or registration fee is usually not refunded. Only the bid security comes back.

Setting a limit

Decide your maximum before bidding opens. Popular numbers can rise well above their floor in busy cities.

Does the number fee include the plate?

No. The choice number fee and the plate charge are separate. The number fee goes to the state transport department. The high security plate is ordered separately; in Maharashtra it costs ₹745 plus GST for a car and ₹450 plus GST for a two-wheeler, including fitment.

Road tax is separate too

Road tax depends on the vehicle price, type and fuel. Paying for 4444 or 0786 does not change it. See the permits and road tax section for those charges.

One payment per number

You pay the choice fee once, when the number is allotted. There is no yearly charge for keeping it.

Can you keep a choice number when you sell the car?

A choice number belongs to the vehicle record, not to you, so it normally goes with the car when you sell it. Haryana allows a change of mark for a fee of ₹2,000. Rules for moving a number to a new vehicle differ by state, so ask your RTO.

Allotment deadlines

Delhi and Haryana give 90 days to register a vehicle after allotment. If you miss it, the number lapses and the fee is lost.

Before you pay

Read your state’s current list and terms on the portal on the day you apply, because fees change with new notifications.

0000 number plate price questions

Can I get 0000 on my car?

No. Registration numbers in a series run from 0001 to 9999. 0000 is outside that range, so no RTO can allot it, whatever price is offered.

What is the 4444 number plate price in Delhi?

Delhi lists 4444 in category 4, with a minimum reserve of ₹1 lakh for a private four-wheeler. An auction can push the final amount higher.

Is 786 the same as 0786?

Yes. The plate shows 0786, and state fee lists write it that way. Searching 786 or 0786 refers to the same registration number.

Why is 0786 more expensive than 4444?

States place 0786 in a higher group because demand for it is strong. Delhi puts it in category 3 at ₹2 lakh, one slab above 4444.

Is 8055 a VIP number?

Not in the lists we checked. Delhi does not name it in categories 1 to 4, so it costs the basic ₹20,000 choice fee there.

Can I ask the RTO for an RRN or RRR series?

No. Series letters are issued in order by the RTO. You can choose only the number inside the series that is currently open.

Does the choice number fee include the plate?

No. The number fee goes to the state. The HSRP plate is a separate charge, for example ₹745 plus GST for a car in Maharashtra.

How long is a choice number reserved after I pay?

Delhi and Haryana give 90 days to register the vehicle. Maharashtra extended its reservation period to six months in 2024.

Are these fees the same for two-wheelers?

Not always. Maharashtra charges ₹50,000 for 0786 on a two-wheeler against ₹2.5 lakh for a car. Delhi's list applies to four-wheelers only.
