Hyderabad transport guide: city RTA offices, helpline numbers and online services

What does Hyderabad transport cover?

Hyderabad transport usually means the government side of driving in the city: registering a vehicle, getting a licence, paying tax and renewing permits. That work belongs to the Telangana Transport Department, which people call the RTA. Buses, metro and suburban trains are run by other bodies, covered further down this page.

The RTA and its offices

The department works through regional transport offices spread across Telangana. Hyderabad has several of them because the city is split into zones, and each zone has its own plate code. The state portal and the national NIC systems hold the records.

What the RTA does not handle

Traffic fines are issued by the police, not the RTA. Road repairs belong to the municipal corporation. Bus passes and metro cards are sold by the operators themselves.

Which transport services in Hyderabad run online?

Most transport services in Hyderabad now start online. The state portal lists registration jobs such as transfer of ownership, renewal of RC and change of address, plus fitness certificates, permits, quarterly and green tax, mobile number updates and trade certificates. A counter visit follows only when the service needs an inspection or a test.

Visitless transactions

The portal has a section called RTA visitless transactions with its own status check. Where a service is marked visitless, the file is approved on the documents you upload.

Checkpost and other-state vehicles

Lorries and tourist vehicles entering Telangana can pay temporary permit and voluntary tax online before reaching a checkpost. Other-state vehicle tax has its own payment link.

Where licence jobs go

The state portal sends learner, driving and conductor licence transactions to Sarathi. Telangana has also made a long list of licence services fully online, with Aadhaar checks in place of a visit.

Where is the Hyderabad transport office for your area?

The Hyderabad transport office for you depends on your address, not the nearest building. Hyderabad district has five offices, from TG 09 Khairatabad in the centre to TG 13 Tolichowki in the west. Suburbs such as Attapur and Medchal have their own district offices with separate codes.

Inside the district

Khairatabad serves the central zone, Secunderabad the north, Malakpet the east and Kishanbagh the south. Each office takes registrations, licences and permits for its own zone.

Outside the district line

Old plates

Vehicles registered before 2024 show TS, and those before 2014 may still show AP. The number stays valid; only new registrations get TG.

How does the state portal link to the national NIC systems?

Telangana ran its own registration software for years, then began moving to Vahan in phases from 23 March 2026. Permanent RCs for non-transport vehicles started coming from Vahan on 11 April 2026. Licences already run on Sarathi, so a Hyderabad record can now be read from anywhere in India.

What changes for owners

You may see two portals for a while. The safe rule is to open the service from the official state site, which sends you to the right system for your job.

Dealers and new vehicles

Dealers upload Form 20 and other registration papers online within seven days of temporary registration. Physical files stopped being accepted after 13 March 2026.

What is the Hyderabad transport number for help?

The Hyderabad transport number printed on the state online portal is 040-23370081, with two more lines, 040-23370083 and 040-23370084. They answer from 10 AM to 6 PM on working days, with a lunch break from 2 PM to 2:30 PM. Questions about stuck payments or applications suit these lines.

E-mail support

The portal also lists [email protected]. Quote your application number, vehicle number and the date of payment in the first message.

Numbers we do not list

Directories print separate phone numbers for each city office. We could not trace those to an official source, so check the office list on the state site before you call.

Which other city numbers are worth saving?

Fines and buses have their own contacts. For e-challan questions the city traffic police published 040-27852772 and 040-27852721 during its 2024 concession drive. Bus and metro operators run their own customer care, listed on their official websites.

Fines on your vehicle

Challans from Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda sit in one Telangana database, so a single vehicle-number search shows them all. Clear them before a transfer, since a pending challan can hold the file.

When to call which line

Call the RTA lines for registration, permit and tax portals. Call the traffic police lines for a fine you think is wrong.

How do buses, metro and MMTS fit into city transport?

Public transport in Hyderabad is shared by three operators. TGSRTC runs the city and intercity buses, the Hyderabad Metro runs three lines, and MMTS suburban trains run on railway tracks. None of them handles licences or registration, so their counters cannot help with RTA work.

TGSRTC buses

The state corporation was renamed from TSRTC to TGSRTC on 23 May 2024. It has a fleet of about 9,094 buses, around 2,822 of them hired, and is headquartered in Hyderabad.

Metro and MMTS

The metro has Red, Blue and Green lines covering about 67 km; its first stretch, Miyapur to Nagole, opened in November 2017. MMTS, run by South Central Railway, started on 9 August 2003.

How much life tax does a new vehicle pay in the city?

A new vehicle registered in Hyderabad pays life tax as a percentage of its cost, under slabs revised from 14 August 2025. The rate rises with the price band, and a second personal vehicle pays more. Eligible EVs have a full waiver until 31 December 2026.

Where to read the slabs

Who pays it

For a new vehicle the dealer collects it with the registration. For a vehicle brought from another state, the owner pays it when re-registering in Telangana.

Which jobs still need a counter visit?

Some work cannot be finished from home. Driving tests, fitness inspections for commercial vehicles and checks of a vehicle’s chassis number still need you or the vehicle at the office or track. The portal books a slot and prints the office name on it.

Test tracks

Applicants must also finish a three-hour online road safety course before the learner test. The department is planning camera-based assessment at city tracks such as Kondapur and Nagole.

What to carry

Take the slot printout, the payment receipt and original papers. For vehicle work add the RC, insurance and PUC.

Is there a fast track service center in Hyderabad?

Not at the RTA. The state portal lists no fast track service center in Hyderabad for registration or licences. Almost everyone typing this phrase is looking for Fastrack, the watch, eyewear and bag brand of Titan Company, launched in 1998. Its repair and service points are run through the brand.

Finding a Fastrack service point

We could not verify a Fastrack service-centre address or phone number for Hyderabad, so we do not print one. Use the store or service locator on the brand’s own website, and keep your warranty card and bill ready.

If you meant faster RTA work

The quickest route at the RTA is a visitless online service. Agents near offices who promise a “fast track” for cash are not part of any official scheme.

What do the Fastrack Pondicherry and Ahmedabad searches mean?

Searches such as fastrack Pondicherry and fastrack service centre Ahmedabad are about the same Titan brand in other cities. They have no link to transport offices in Puducherry or Gujarat. We do not list addresses for them because we could not confirm any from an official source.

Check the brand’s own locator for the city you need, and confirm by phone before travelling with a watch for repair.

What is a fast track office?

Fast track office has no fixed meaning in transport. People use it for a Fastrack brand store, for fast-track courts that hear certain cases quickly, or for an imagined express counter at the RTA. The Telangana portal names no fast-track office, so treat any such offer with care.

Fast-track courts

These are ordinary courts given priority cases. They do not issue licences or RCs.

How do you avoid touts and fake transport sites?

Use only the telangana.gov.in and parivahan.gov.in addresses, or links from them. Fees are paid on the portal, and slots are free to book. Any page asking for card details outside that flow, or an agent asking for cash to skip a queue, is a warning sign.
