By , Editor and reviewer · Updated · 15 min read · Independent guide, not a government website

In short

Online FIR Rajasthan services run on the Rajasthan Police website, police.rajasthan.gov.in, and the RajCop Citizen app. To download an FIR, choose the police district and station, enter the FIR number and year, and save the PDF. To report a crime, file an online complaint or go to any police station. The informant always gets a free copy.

Key takeaways

  • Rajasthan Police runs police.rajasthan.gov.in and the RajCop Citizen app; both let you search and download FIRs.
  • You need the FIR number, year, district and police station to find a case online.
  • Cases protected by law, such as those naming victims of sexual offences, are not shown online.
  • The informant gets a free copy of the FIR; never pay an agent for one.
  • Since 1 July 2024 the BNSS lets information on a cognisable offence be given electronically, and a Zero FIR can be filed at any station.
  • For an emergency dial 112; for online money fraud call 1930 at once.

What does online FIR Rajasthan mean?

Online FIR Rajasthan covers three things people search for: reporting an offence over the internet, downloading an FIR that is already registered, and getting a copy for insurance, court or the RTO. All three run through Rajasthan Police, which has its headquarters in Jaipur and is led by the Director General of Police.

Five steps for an online FIR Rajasthan police download, from the portal to the PDF copy
Keep the FIR number, year and police station ready before you search.

The official channels

There are two digital routes. The first is the website police.rajasthan.gov.in, which hosts the citizen services. The second is the RajCop Citizen app for Android, published by Rajasthan Police. Both draw on the same police station records, so a case you find on one should appear on the other.

What this guide does not replace

This is an independent guide, not a police service. We could not open the police website from our checking machine, so menu labels may differ slightly. If an option has moved, look under citizen services and confirm the current steps on the official portal.

Can you lodge an FIR online in Rajasthan?

Partly. You can register a complaint online on the Rajasthan Police website or the RajCop Citizen app and track it. Under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), in force since 1 July 2024, information about a cognisable offence can also be given electronically. The police station then records it as an FIR.

How the online route works

You describe what happened, give the place, date and time, and add your contact details. The complaint reaches the station that covers the area. If it discloses a cognisable offence, the officer registers an FIR and you get its number. Keep the complaint number for follow-up.

When to go in person

For a crime in progress, an injury or a threat, do not wait for an online form. Dial 112 or go to the nearest police station. Serious cases such as assault, robbery or a missing child need the police to act at once, which a web form cannot guarantee.

What is e FIR Rajasthan and when does it apply?

E FIR Rajasthan is the everyday name for filing or getting an FIR through the state’s online services rather than on paper. The BNSS gives electronic reports legal recognition. Which offences can be filed fully online, and whether you must sign at the station afterwards, is set by the police, so check the portal before relying on it.

What people usually report online

Typical online reports are about thefts with no known accused, lost documents and minor matters where no one is in danger. These are the cases where a written description and a few documents are enough for the station to begin.

Signing the report

The law expects the person who gives information to sign it. When you report electronically, the station may ask you to visit and sign within a short period. Follow the instruction on your acknowledgement, because an unsigned report can be delayed.

How does Rajasthan FIR download work on the police website?

A Rajasthan FIR download takes a few minutes. Open police.rajasthan.gov.in, go to citizen services and choose the FIR search option. Select the police district and the station, enter the FIR number and year, and the copy opens as a PDF that you can save or print.

  1. Open the Rajasthan Police portal. Type police.rajasthan.gov.in yourself rather than following an ad.
  2. Choose the FIR search option. It sits with the other citizen services.
  3. Select district and police station. Pick the district first; the station list then loads.
  4. Enter FIR number and year. Use the number exactly as printed on your slip.
  5. Download and check the PDF. Confirm names, date, place and sections of law.

If the station list looks wrong

Rajasthan has 57 police districts, including city districts inside Jaipur, so the same town can appear under a district you do not expect. If your station is missing, try the neighbouring district or the city district of a commissionerate.

Printing the copy

Print in colour if you can, and keep a digital copy on your phone. Insurers and lawyers usually accept a printout of the downloaded FIR, though a court may ask for a certified copy.

What do you need for an online FIR download in Rajasthan?

For an online FIR download Rajasthan police publish, you need four details: the FIR number, the year, the police district and the station. They appear on the slip or copy you got when the case was registered. Without them the search usually fails, because the system finds one case, not a list.

Checklist of details needed before a Rajasthan FIR download on the police website or app
A search by name alone rarely finds a case.

Where to find the FIR number

The FIR number is printed at the top of the copy, with the station name and the date. If you only have a complaint number, the case may not yet be an FIR; ask the station whether it has been registered.

Mobile number and sign-in

Services that show “your” FIRs or complaints link them to the mobile number you gave. Use the same number when you sign in to the app, and keep your phone handy for an OTP.

How do you get an FIR copy Rajasthan police issue on your phone?

To get a fir copy Rajasthan police issue on your phone, use the RajCop Citizen app from Rajasthan Police. Its listing says it lets you view and download your filed FIRs, search and download other FIRs, and register complaints. Restricted cases stay hidden, as on the website.

A short note on the app

The app also offers SOS, helpline numbers, the nearest police station and tenant or servant verification. For installation, sign-in and every feature, see our RajCop Citizen app guide.

Saving the PDF on a phone

After the FIR opens, use the share or download button and save it to your files. Many people also keep it in a cloud folder so that it is easy to send to an insurer or lawyer later.

Why can’t some FIRs in Rajasthan be downloaded?

Some FIRs are kept off public view by law. The RajCop Citizen listing says FIRs restricted by law, such as cases that would reveal the identity of a victim of a sexual offence, are excluded. Cases linked to terrorism or insurgency are also commonly withheld, and new FIRs can take time to appear.

The 24-hour rule and its exceptions

In 2016 the Supreme Court directed that FIRs be uploaded on police websites within 24 hours, while allowing sensitive cases to be withheld. If yours is one of these, you can still get a copy as the informant at the station.

Late uploads

Some stations upload in batches. If an FIR is missing a day or two after registration, search again later. After that, visit the station with your slip and ask whether the case is marked as restricted.

Is an FIR copy in Rajasthan free?

Yes. The person who reported the offence gets a free copy of the FIR, and downloads from the Rajasthan Police website or app cost nothing. Anyone asking for money to “issue” an FIR copy is either an agent or a fraud. Only a certified copy from a court has its own process and charges.

What to do if asked to pay

Do not pay. Download the copy yourself, or ask the station duty officer for it. If someone at a station demands money, you can report it to the Superintendent of Police of the district.

Copies for other people

Family members and insurers can download an FIR that is published online. For a restricted case they need the informant’s copy, or a court order.

How does online FIR in Jaipur work?

Online FIR Jaipur follows the same process as the rest of the state. Use police.rajasthan.gov.in or the RajCop Citizen app, choose the Jaipur police district that covers your station, enter the FIR number and year, and download the copy. Online complaints from Jaipur go to the city police station concerned.

Jaipur’s city districts

Jaipur City has two city police districts under the commissionerate, so pick the one your station belongs to. The station name on your FIR slip is the best guide.

Jaipur residents’ other needs

People in Jaipur often need an FIR for a lost phone, a stolen two-wheeler or a cheque case. For filing a complaint in the city, see our guide to Rajasthan police help and complaint services.

Online FIR Rajasthan Jaipur: city police or district police?

For online FIR Rajasthan Jaipur searches, the key question is whether the station is in the city or the rural district. Rajasthan Police has two commissionerates, understood to be Jaipur and Jodhpur, plus range-level district police elsewhere. The city stations sit under the commissionerate; outlying stations sit under Jaipur Rural.

AreaPolice set-upWhat to pick online
Jaipur cityCommissionerate, city districtsThe city district of your station
Jaipur outskirts and villagesJaipur Rural district policeJaipur Rural
Jodhpur cityCommissionerateJodhpur city district
Other districtsDistrict police under a rangeThe district name

If you are unsure

Look at your FIR slip: the station name decides the district. You can also use the app’s nearest police station option to see which station covers your address.

What does a Rajasthan FIR contain?

A Rajasthan FIR records the FIR number and year, the police station and district, the date and time the information was received, the informant’s details, the place and time of the incident, a short account of what happened and the sections of law applied. The officer who recorded it signs the document.

Checking for mistakes

Read the copy carefully. A wrong vehicle number, spelling or date can delay an insurance claim. If you spot an error, tell the investigating officer in writing and ask how it will be recorded.

Sections of law

FIRs registered from 1 July 2024 use sections of the new criminal laws, such as the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, rather than the old IPC. Older FIRs keep their IPC sections.

Is FIR Rajasthan police register online the same as a complaint?

No. An FIR Rajasthan police register is a formal record that starts an investigation into a cognisable offence. An online complaint is your report to the police; it may become an FIR, or it may be dealt with through an enquiry. The table shows the difference.

Non-cognisable matters

Some disputes are non-cognisable, such as minor insults. The police record them in a station register and may refer you to a magistrate, rather than registering an FIR.

Following a complaint

To track an online complaint, see our page on police complaint status, which explains citizen portal tracking across states.

What is a Zero FIR and does Rajasthan accept it?

A Zero FIR is an FIR registered at a police station that does not cover the place of the crime. Section 173 of the BNSS gives it legal backing across India, including Rajasthan. The station records the case and sends it to the station with jurisdiction, which gives it a regular number.

When it helps

It is useful when a crime happens while you travel, or when you are not sure which station covers the spot. You do not have to be sent away to find the “right” station before your report is taken.

Tracking a Zero FIR

After transfer, the FIR gets a new number at the receiving station. Ask for it, because the online search uses the final station and number.

What if a police station in Rajasthan refuses to register an FIR?

If a station will not register an FIR for a cognisable offence, put your complaint in writing and send it to the Superintendent of Police of the district or the Deputy Commissioner of Police in a commissionerate. The law allows this route, and the senior officer can order registration or investigation.

Steps that help

Keep a copy of your written complaint and note the date, the officer you spoke to and any reply. An online complaint through the Rajasthan Police portal also creates a dated record that the station has to act on.

Going to court

If the senior officer does not act, a lawyer can help you apply to the magistrate, who can direct the police to register the case. Legal aid services can assist if you cannot afford a lawyer.

Why do vehicle owners need an FIR copy in Rajasthan?

Vehicle owners need an FIR copy mainly after a theft or a serious accident. Insurers ask for it before paying a theft or third-party claim, and the RTO needs it to record that a vehicle was stolen. A lost RC usually needs only a police report or complaint, not an FIR.

Comparison of the Rajasthan Police website and the RajCop Citizen app for e FIR Rajasthan services
Both are run by Rajasthan Police; restricted cases are hidden on each.

After a vehicle theft

Report the theft at once, give the registration, chassis and engine numbers, and keep the FIR copy. A delayed report is a common reason for insurance disputes.

After an accident

For an accident with injuries, the police usually register the FIR. Keep the copy with photos and the hospital papers, because the insurer and the claims tribunal will ask for them.

How do you use the FIR for insurance and RC work?

Send the downloaded FIR to your insurer with the claim form, and keep the original printout. For RC work after a theft, the RTO may ask for the FIR copy and, later, a police report that the vehicle was not traced. Ask your insurer and the RTO for their exact checklists.

Insurance claim checklist

Insurers commonly ask for the FIR copy, the RC, the keys, the policy and your ID. Our Vahan services hub explains how to download the RC and check vehicle details.

Traffic challans are separate

A traffic challan is not an FIR. For pending fines or e-challans on a Rajasthan vehicle, see the Rajasthan police challan guide.

What happens after an FIR is registered in Rajasthan?

After registration, an investigating officer is assigned. They may visit the place, record statements and collect evidence. The investigation ends with a charge sheet or a closure report sent to the court. You can ask the station about progress at any stage.

Checking progress online

The RajCop Citizen app lists the status of FIRs and complaints you filed. For a full walkthrough of tracking, see our page on FIR status Rajasthan.

Your role

Keep your phone reachable, answer calls from the investigating officer, and share new information quickly. If an item is recovered, the court decides how it is returned.

Can an accused person get a Rajasthan FIR copy?

An accused person can download a Rajasthan FIR that is published online. If it is restricted, they usually obtain a certified copy through a lawyer from the court once the case reaches it. The police are not required to hand a restricted FIR to the accused at the station.

Why lawyers use certified copies

A certified copy from the court is accepted in bail and other proceedings without question. A downloaded copy is fine for reading the case, but the court may still want the certified version.

How is online cyber fraud reported in Rajasthan?

Online money fraud is reported nationally. Call the cybercrime helpline 1930 as soon as you notice a fraudulent transaction, then file a report on cybercrime.gov.in. The report reaches the Rajasthan cyber police, who may register an FIR. Speed matters, because a quick call can help freeze the money.

What to keep ready

Note the transaction ID, date, amount, bank and the number or link the fraudster used. Take screenshots before any messages vanish.

Getting the FIR copy

If the cyber police register an FIR, download it the same way as any other case, using the cyber police station listed on your acknowledgement.

Which emergency numbers work in Rajasthan?

Rajasthan uses India’s national emergency numbers. 112 connects you to police, fire or ambulance. Police can also be reached on 100, fire on 101 and ambulance on 108. These numbers are free and work from any phone.

Helplines inside the app

The RajCop Citizen app also lists helplines for children, women, cyber crime and Tele MANAS mental health support.

When to use 112 instead of an online form

Use 112 whenever someone is in danger or a crime is happening now. Online forms are for later reports.

What are common Rajasthan FIR download errors and fixes?

Most failed Rajasthan FIR download attempts come from a wrong district, station or year. Other causes are restricted cases, slow servers and PDF viewer problems. Check each detail against your slip, try again at a quiet time, and use the app if the website does not load.

“No record found”

Confirm the year of registration, not the year of the incident. Then check whether the station belongs to a city district or a rural one.

The page or PDF will not open

Clear the browser cache, try another browser, or switch to the RajCop Citizen app. Government portals are often slow at peak hours.

How do you spot fake FIR download sites?

Fake sites copy police logos and charge a “processing fee” for an FIR copy. The real services are on police.rajasthan.gov.in and the RajCop Citizen app from Rajasthan Police. Official FIR downloads are free and never ask for card details.

Warning signs

Be wary of sites that ask for payment, your bank details or an OTP to “release” an FIR. Check the address bar for the .gov.in domain.

If you shared details

If you paid or shared an OTP, call 1930 and your bank immediately.

Website, app or police station: which route is best?

The website suits printing and searching any published FIR. The app suits checking your own complaints and FIRs on the go. The police station is the route for restricted cases, signing a report and anything urgent.
