What does an RC status Delhi check show?
An RC status Delhi check shows where a registration request for a DL vehicle stands inside the Vahan system: which desk at the Delhi office holds it, whether the authority has approved it, and whether the certificate has been printed. It follows a request in progress. It is not the RC itself, and it needs the application number.

Checking RC status Delhi requests on Vahan takes about a minute. You need only the application number printed on the fee receipt, which the dealer or the portal issues after payment. The status page opens without a login or OTP.
- Open Vahan. Go to Vahan citizen services and select Delhi as the state.
- Open the Status menu. Choose Know Your Application Status.
- Enter the application number. Type the number printed on your Vahan fee receipt.
- Type the captcha. Enter the characters shown and submit.
- Read each stage. Rows with a date are complete; blank rows are still pending.
Where the number hides
Dealers often keep the receipt after a new-car sale. Ask for a copy, or check the SMS sent when the fee was paid. Menu labels can change, so confirm them on the live portal.
SMS alerts
Vahan sends an SMS at each stage to the mobile on the application. If none arrive, the number on file may be old.
What is an RC application and who files it?
An RC application is any request to the registering authority that creates or changes a registration certificate. In Delhi it is filed on Vahan by the dealer, for a new vehicle, or by the owner, for transfers, address changes, duplicates and loan entries. Each filing produces an application number you can track.
Dealer-filed applications
For a new vehicle, the showroom enters your details, collects tax and fees and uploads the invoice and insurance. You should still check the spelling of your name and address before submission.
Owner-filed applications
Owners file most later changes themselves. Some can be finished with Aadhaar authentication; others end with a visit to show originals or the vehicle.
Which RC application stages does a Delhi file pass?
A Delhi RC application usually passes five stages: fee payment, document upload, verification at the DL office, approval by the registering authority, and RC printing. The status screen shows each stage as a row with a date. A missing date tells you exactly where the file is waiting.
Reading a pending row
If verification has no date, the desk has not opened the file. If approval is blank after verification, the authority has queries or is clearing a backlog.
After printing
Printing means the record is final. You can download the copy at once, even though the card may take longer to reach you.
How do you follow an RC transfer online Delhi status?
You follow an RC transfer online Delhi status on the same Vahan page, using the transfer application number rather than the registration number. The result shows whether the seller’s request was received, verified and approved, and when the RC was printed in the buyer’s name.
Who should check
Both sides should. The seller wants proof that liability has moved; the buyer wants the RC. Until approval, the record still names the seller.
When the buyer lives outside Delhi
An out-of-state buyer needs a no-objection certificate from the Delhi office first. The buyer’s new state then registers the vehicle and issues its card.
What deadlines apply when a Delhi vehicle is sold?
Under Section 50 of the Motor Vehicles Act, the seller must report the sale within 14 days when the vehicle stays registered in the same state, which covers most Delhi-to-Delhi sales. The buyer must report it within 30 days. If the vehicle is registered in another state, the seller has 45 days.
Why the seller should act fast
The Supreme Court has held that the owner shown in RTO records stays liable for an accident, even within the reporting period. A tracked application is your evidence.
Keep proof of the sale
Save the receipt, a dated sale letter and the buyer’s ID, then watch the status until the new name appears.
How does a Delhi RC download work?
A Delhi RC download reads the approved record, so it works only after the status shows the RC printed. In DigiLocker, open Issued Documents, choose Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, then Registration of Vehicles, and enter the DL number and chassis digits. Vahan’s print option needs an OTP too.
Which copy to carry

When the OTP fails
The OTP goes to the mobile number on the registration. If that number is old, update it through Vahan before you try again.
Which DL office is handling your RC?
Your RC application is handled by the Delhi zonal office that covers your address. Delhi plates skip the leading zero, so codes run from DL 1 to DL 13. The office name also appears in the status result, which is handy when the code on an older plate no longer matches.

Records that moved offices
Some files have shifted between offices. DL 13, for example, holds records of several older DL 7 series. Always go by the office the status names.

Office addresses and timings change, so take them from the Delhi transport department site rather than old lists.
Why does a Delhi RC application get stuck?
A Delhi RC application usually gets stuck for a fixable reason: a missing or unreadable document, an address that belongs to another DL office, an outdated mobile number, a pending challan or an open loan entry. The stage shown on the status screen tells you which desk to ask.
What to do first
Wait about a week after payment before chasing. Then contact the office named in the result, quoting the application number, not the vehicle number.
Clearing blockers
Pay pending challans and get the bank’s no-dues letter for a loan before filing a transfer. Both are common reasons a file is returned.
Where is the Delhi RC smart card after printing?
After the status shows the RC printed, the smart card is prepared for dispatch. In many states it travels by Speed Post, and a consignment number appears only once the office hands the parcel over. Ask the office named in your result how Delhi cards are delivered, as the method can change.

What is RTA Telangana application status?
RTA Telangana application status is a search by people tracking a transport application in Telangana, where registering offices are called RTAs. It has no link to Delhi. We cover it briefly because it shares this page’s keyword set, and so that Telangana readers reach the right portal quickly.
Telangana’s move to Vahan
Telangana began using Vahan in phases from 23 March 2026, and permanent RCs for non-transport vehicles have come through Vahan since 11 April 2026. For those, choose Telangana on the Vahan status page.
The older state portal
The tgtransport.net online services portal still lists an Application Status option in its licence menu, and its notice sends licence work to Sarathi.
Does a Telangana status check work for a Delhi vehicle?
No. A status check reads the state you select, so a Delhi application never appears under Telangana, and a TS or TG application never appears under Delhi. If you moved from Hyderabad to Delhi, each state’s application is tracked in that state’s portal.
Moving a vehicle between the two
A Telangana vehicle kept in Delhi for over a year needs re-registration in Delhi after an NOC. Track the NOC under Telangana, then the new DL registration under Delhi.
Licences are separate
Driving licence status in either state runs on Sarathi, not Vahan.
