Vehicle ownership details in Kerala, from KL number to RC record

By , Editor and reviewer · Updated · 24 min read · Independent guide, not a government website

In short

Vehicle ownership details in Kerala sit in the national Vahan register, which the Kerala Motor Vehicles Department updates for every KL number. Search the plate on vahan.parivahan.gov.in or in the mParivahan app to see the model, registration date, insurance validity and status. The owner's name is partly masked; the full record goes only to the owner, police, courts or insurers.

Key takeaways

  • Kerala MVD keeps vehicle records on Vahan, so a KL number is searched on the national portal or in mParivahan.
  • Public results show model, dates, insurance and status, but the owner name is masked and no phone or address appears.
  • The two digits after KL name the office; special series such as KL-15 and KL-90 mark buses and government vehicles.
  • RC changes and new registrations are tracked with the application number under Know Your Application Status.
  • Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh plates are searched the same way on Vahan, with TN or UP as the state.
  • Never pay a site that promises an owner's phone number; that data is not public.

What are vehicle ownership details in Kerala?

Vehicle ownership details in Kerala are the facts the Motor Vehicles Department holds about a KL-registered car, bike, bus or lorry: who owns it, where it was registered, and whether its papers are current. Since Kerala uses the national Vahan register, anyone can read the basic part of that record online for free.

Five steps to check vehicle ownership details in Kerala on the Vahan public search
The same KL number also works inside the mParivahan app.

Who keeps the record

The Kerala MVD, headquartered at Trans Towers, Vazhuthacaud in Thiruvananthapuram, registers vehicles through its regional and sub-regional offices. Each office writes its entries to Vahan, which the National Informatics Centre (NIC) builds and maintains for the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

Ownership versus possession

The person in the record is the registered owner, not always the person driving. A car sold last week may still show the seller until the transfer is approved. That gap matters, because the Supreme Court has held that the owner in RTO records stays liable for an accident even inside the reporting period.

Most people searching want three things: is the vehicle real, is it insured, and does the seller actually own it. The public search answers the first two directly and the third partly, through the masked name.

How to check vehicle details in Kerala?

To check a KL number, open the Vahan vehicle search or the mParivahan app, type the full registration number without spaces, and complete the captcha or OTP. The record opens in seconds. You do not need to be the owner, and no fee is charged for this lookup.

  1. Open Vahan. Go to vahan.parivahan.gov.in on a phone or laptop.
  2. Choose the vehicle search. Find the Know Your Vehicle Details link among the citizen pages.
  3. Enter the KL number. Type it as one string, such as KL07AB1234, then the captcha.
  4. Sign in if asked. Give your own mobile number and the OTP when the site requests it.
  5. Read the record. Note the model, registration date, insurance date, fitness and status.

Typing tips that avoid “record not found”

Use the digit 0, never the letter O, and keep leading zeros: KL 7 is entered as KL07. Leave out hyphens and spaces. Most failed searches come from these small slips rather than a missing record.

When the menu looks different

Government portals rename links from time to time. If you cannot find the search link, look for words like “vehicle details” or “know your vehicle” on the Vahan home page, or use the app instead.

Which MVD Kerala vehicle details can anyone see?

The MVD Kerala vehicle details open to the public are the vehicle-side facts: maker, model, fuel, registration date and office, insurance validity, fitness or tax dates and status. The person-side facts, such as the full name, address and mobile number, stay hidden or masked to protect the owner.

Why the name is masked

Showing only a few letters lets a buyer match the seller’s name without exposing a stranger’s identity. It is a deliberate privacy choice, not a fault in the search.

Who can see the full record

The owner sees the full record after signing in with the mobile linked to the RC. Police, courts and insurers can request it from the registering office when a case or claim needs it.

The full owner record stays with the registering office and the owner.

Does the keralamvd gov in vehicle details page still work?

Searches for keralamvd gov in vehicle details come from the department’s older web address and its own vehicle search. Today the MVD lists mvd.kerala.gov.in as its site, and vehicle records are looked up on the national Vahan portal. We could not confirm whether the old address still redirects.

What to use instead

Go straight to vahan.parivahan.gov.in or the mParivahan app. Both read the same register that Kerala offices update, so you lose nothing by skipping the old bookmark.

Watch for copycat addresses

Sites with “kerala”, “mvd” or “vahan” in a different domain are not official. A real government page ends in gov.in. Never type your OTP into a site you reached from an ad.

Where do you find Kerala vehicle registration details on Vahan?

Kerala vehicle registration details are on Vahan’s citizen side at vahan.parivahan.gov.in. The vehicle search returns the registration record, while the online services area handles changes such as address, transfer or a duplicate RC. You do not pick a state for the plain search; the KL code tells the system where to look.

Search versus services

The search is read-only and open to anyone. The services need the registration number, chassis digits and an OTP to the owner’s phone, because they change the record.

Why Vahan, not a state portal

Kerala moved its vehicle work onto the national system, which MoRTH launched as Vahan 4.0 on 2 June 2015. A single register means a KL car sold in Chennai can be traced without calling Kerala.

RC details Kerala: what does mParivahan show?

The mParivahan app shows the same RC details as the Vahan search: model, dates, insurance, fitness and status, with the owner masked. Signed-in owners can also add their own vehicle and carry a virtual RC that officers accept under Rule 139 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules.

Comparison of a Kerala vehicle search on the Vahan website and the mParivahan app
Both read the same national register that the Kerala MVD updates.

Searching a stranger’s plate

In the app, type the full KL number in the vehicle search box. This is handy at a used-car lot where a laptop is not nearby. Our guide to the mParivahan app explains the other screens.

Your own vehicle

Add your vehicle with the chassis and engine digits it asks for. A virtual RC in the app counts as a valid electronic document at a roadside check, so you need not carry the paper card.

Install it safely

Download it only from the Play Store or App Store. Look-alike download sites push APK files and ask you to allow unknown sources; those are not government apps.

What happens in a Kerala vehicle registration number check?

A Kerala vehicle registration number check matches the plate against the Vahan register and returns the vehicle it belongs to. If a record comes back, the plate was issued by a Kerala office. If the model shown differs from the vehicle in front of you, treat it as a warning sign.

Matching plate to vehicle

Compare the model and colour on screen with the vehicle. Then compare the last digits of the chassis number with the one stamped on the frame. A mismatch on either point needs an explanation.

When the status is not “active”

Statuses such as blacklisted, suspended or NOC issued mean the vehicle cannot simply be sold or driven as normal. Ask the owner why before going further.

Can you get Kerala vehicle details by number without logging in?

Yes, the basic Kerala vehicle details by number usually need only the plate and a captcha, though Vahan sometimes asks for a mobile OTP to stop automated scraping. Either way, you are verifying yourself, not the owner. Nothing about the owner is sent to you beyond the masked name.

Why an OTP is sometimes asked

The OTP check limits bulk searches by bots that used to copy the register. Your number is used only to sign you in to the search.

The SMS route

An SMS lookup service was publicised for basic vehicle details, but it is not something we could confirm still works, so use the portal or app.

Check vehicle details Kerala: is it free?

Yes. To check vehicle details Kerala offices hold, you pay nothing on Vahan or mParivahan. Only real applications carry a cost, such as a duplicate RC, a transfer or a smart card, and Vahan shows that amount on screen before you pay.

Private sites sell “full owner reports” with phone numbers. That data is not public, so a paid report is either recycled from leaks or invented. Do not pay for it.

Where genuine payments happen

Real payments go through the Vahan online payment page and produce a receipt you can reprint later. If a site asks for money only to search, close it.

How does a KL registration number search work for older plates?

A KL registration number search works the same way for older vehicles, as long as the record was moved into Vahan. Type the number exactly as printed on the plate or the old RC book. Kerala’s district codes began in 1989, and the older three-letter series came before them.

Three-letter numbers

Before 1989 Kerala used series such as KLT and KRT for Thiruvananthapuram or KLE for Ernakulam. Enter them as printed, for example KLT1234. If no record appears, the original office can confirm the entry.

Re-registered vehicles

A vehicle brought in from another state carries a fresh KL number after re-registration. Search the new number; the old one may show as transferred to Kerala.

Vehicle RC details Kerala: which fields appear?

Vehicle RC details Kerala owners see on their smart card are wider than the public screen: they include the owner’s name and address, the chassis and engine number, seating capacity, body type and any loan entry. The public search shows only the safe subset.

Front and back of the card

The front carries the registration number, owner and dates. The back usually lists the vehicle’s technical data and the hypothecation (loan) entry. Our page on RC download Kerala shows how to save the official copy.

Loan entries

If a bank financed the vehicle, its name appears until the loan entry is removed. A buyer should insist that this is cleared before paying.

What is in the Kerala number plate list?

The Kerala number plate list runs from KL-01 Thiruvananthapuram up to KL-86 Payyannur, plus special series for buses and government vehicles. Each number belongs to one regional or sub-regional office. Our full Kerala number plate guide maps every code to its district.

CodeOfficeWhy it matters in a search

Where the list grew

District codes KL-01 to KL-14 date from 1989. More offices followed in 2002, 2006, 2011, 2013, 2018 and 2020, which is why a KL-70s plate is usually a newer sub-regional office.

A special series tells you the owner type before you even search.

How is a registration number in Kerala put together?

A registration number in Kerala has four parts: the state code KL, two digits for the office, up to three series letters, and a number from 1 to 9999. In KL 07 AB 1234, “07” is Ernakulam, “AB” is the series and “1234” is the vehicle’s own number.

Letters that are skipped

Series letters avoid I and O so they are not confused with 1 and 0. When an office runs through a series, it moves to the next pair of letters.

Fancy numbers

Numbers such as 0001 or 0007 are sold by online auction for new vehicles not yet registered. The price is set by bidding, so there is no fixed amount to quote.

Which tools does a Kerala vehicle search use?

A Kerala vehicle search runs on a small set of official tools: the Vahan website, the mParivahan app, the Know Your Application Status page and, for insurance, the Insurance Information Bureau. Each answers a different question, so pick the one that matches what you need.

Picking the right one

For a quick look at a parked vehicle, use the app. For a pre-purchase check, use the website on a larger screen and save screenshots. For an application you made, use the status page.

What do Kerala registration number details reveal about the office?

Kerala registration number details start with the office: the two digits after KL show which RTO or sub-RTO first registered the vehicle. That tells you where the original papers sit and which office a buyer or heir will deal with for corrections.

Reading the office from the plate

KL-17 is Muvattupuzha, KL-41 Aluva and KL-63 Angamaly, all in Ernakulam district. The plate keeps its code even when the owner moves within Kerala.

Sub-offices and their parent

Kerala has about 18 RTOs and 69 sub-RTOs headed by Joint RTOs. Sources differ slightly on the count, but every one of them writes to Vahan.

Every one of these offices writes to the same Vahan register.

Why do MVD Kerala vehicle registration details matter in a sale?

MVD Kerala vehicle registration details are the proof that a seller can legally sell. If the masked name, chassis digits and status all match, the deal can move to Forms 29 and 30. If any of them do not, the sale should wait until the record is fixed.

The buyer’s deadline

Under section 50 of the Motor Vehicles Act, the seller reports a same-state transfer within 14 days and the buyer within 30 days. Our guide to Form 29 and 30 covers the online steps.

The seller’s risk

Until the record changes, fines and accident claims follow the registered owner. Sellers should check the record a few weeks later to confirm the transfer went through.

Can you see Kerala vehicle owner details by number plate?

You can see part of the Kerala vehicle owner details by number plate: the masked name and the registering office. You cannot see the address or phone. For the full record, the police, a court or an insurer must request it, usually after an accident or a complaint.

After a hit-and-run

Note the KL number, time and place, and give it to the police. They can trace the full owner record; you should not try to track the owner yourself.

Nationwide owner searches

The same rules apply across India. Our page on vehicle registration details explains the national search in more depth.

What does a Kerala bike number plate show?

A Kerala bike number plate shows the same KL number as the RC, split over one or two lines on the rear plate. Its colour also tells you the use: white for private, yellow for hire and green for electric. A plate that does not match the RC record is an offence.

Plate colourLetteringMeaning
WhiteBlackPrivate vehicle
YellowBlackTransport or hire vehicle
GreenWhitePrivate electric vehicle
GreenYellowCommercial electric vehicle

YellowRedTemporary registration

Front and rear sizes

Two-wheelers carry a narrow front plate and a smaller, squarer rear plate. Both must show the same number in the standard font.

High-security plates

Bikes made from April 2019 come with high-security plates fitted by the dealer, with a laser-etched code that links the plate to the vehicle.

How do you do a Kerala number plate check on the road?

A Kerala number plate check on the road is simply a lookup of the plate you see. Type it into mParivahan and compare the model and colour shown with the vehicle in front of you. If they differ, do not confront the driver; note the details and report them.

Reporting a mismatch

Give the number, place and time to the nearest RTO or police station. Kerala’s Safe Kerala cameras also flag plates that do not match their records.

Fines tied to the plate

Camera fines go to the registered owner. To see pending ones, use our guide to e challan Kerala.

RC change status Kerala: how do you track it?

To follow an RC change status Kerala application, such as an address change, transfer or duplicate RC, open Vahan, choose Know Your Application Status and enter the application number from your receipt. Each stage, from fee paid to dispatch, also triggers an SMS to the mobile in the record.

Timeline of the stages a Kerala RC change application passes through before delivery
SMS updates arrive at each stage on the mobile linked to the RC.

What each stage means

“Pending” usually means the office has not yet checked your papers. “Approved” means the change is in the register, even if the card has not reached you. The card then goes to print and post.

If it stays pending

Check whether the office asked for a document. If nothing changes for weeks, visit or write to the office that holds the record, with the application number.

Where are Kerala vehicle insurance details recorded?

Kerala vehicle insurance details are recorded twice: on the policy you hold and in the Vahan record, where insurers upload the company name and end date. A public search shows that end date, so you can see at a glance whether a KL vehicle was insured on the day you check.

Why it matters

Section 146 of the Motor Vehicles Act bars using a vehicle in a public place without at least third-party insurance. An expired date is a fine risk for the owner and a claim risk for anyone hit.

When the date looks wrong

Uploads from insurers can lag by days or weeks after a renewal. Keep the policy PDF handy and ask the insurer to correct the record if it stays old.

Is the insurance on a KL-registered car or bike still valid?

To confirm a KL vehicle’s cover, compare the insurance end date in the Vahan search with today’s date, then confirm it on the insurer’s own site or the IIB search. If both agree, the cover is current. For a bike-specific walk-through, see our bike insurance check guide.

The Insurance Information Bureau, set up by IRDAI, can return the insurer and policy number. It holds records only from 1 April 2010 and limits the number of searches per email and mobile.

Brand-new vehicles

A new vehicle is first insured against its chassis and engine numbers, so a search by KL number may fail for a while. Use the policy copy from the dealer.

What do KL vehicle details tell a used-vehicle buyer?

KL vehicle details tell a buyer whether the vehicle exists in the register, how old it really is, whether it is insured and whether its status allows a sale. They also show the office that will handle the transfer. Together they turn a seller’s promises into facts you can check.

Checklist of RC checks in Kerala to run before you buy a used car or bike
Ten minutes on the record can save months of transfer trouble.

Age and use

The registration date gives the true age, regardless of what the seller says. A yellow-plate history or a transport class shows the vehicle was used for hire.

Ownership count

The owner login shows the serial number of the current owner. Ask the seller to show it; a high number on a young car is worth questioning.

RC check Kerala: what should it cover before you pay?

A useful RC check Kerala buyers run covers five points: chassis digits, masked owner name, loan entry, insurance date and status. Add a fine check and a tax check. If all of them pass, you can sign Forms 29 and 30 with confidence.

Order of checks

Start with the chassis, because a mismatch ends the deal at once. Then check status and the loan entry, and only then insurance and fines, which are fixable.

Keep proof

Screenshot each result with the date visible. If a problem appears after the sale, these images show what the record said when you paid.

Which motor vehicle details in Kerala sit outside the RC?

Some motor vehicle details in Kerala live outside the registration record. Traffic fines sit on the e-challan system, permits for buses and taxis sit in separate permit records, and the driver’s licence is on Sarathi. A full check looks at each one.

Fines and cameras

Kerala installed 726 AI cameras under Safe Kerala, and they became operational for fines on 5 June 2023. Camera fines link to the KL number, so a used vehicle can carry unpaid ones.

Licence records

The licence belongs to the driver, not the vehicle. A buyer does not inherit it; it is checked on Sarathi with the licence number.

What do Kerala state vehicle details cover for government fleets?

Kerala state vehicle details for government vehicles use their own series. KL-15 is for KSRTC and KURTC buses, and the KL-90 series splits government owners by letter: A for the state government, B for central government, C for local bodies and D for public sector undertakings. Most state government and police vehicles were registered at KL-01.

Searching a government plate

The search works the same way, though the owner shown will be a department name rather than a person. Fines and records follow the department.

KL-99

KL-99 is listed for State Transport Authority vehicles and is rarely seen on the road.

Car owner details Kerala: can you find them legally?

You can legally see the masked car owner details Kerala provides through Vahan, because the government offers that search to everyone. You cannot legally buy or publish the full name, phone and address. Using any of them to follow or harass someone can bring criminal charges.

Do's and don'ts for looking up Kerala vehicle owner details safely and lawfully
A masked name is a privacy feature, not a fault in the search.

Fair uses

Checking a car before buying it, confirming a taxi’s details, or noting a plate after an accident are all fair uses. Contact with the owner should then go through the police or the RTO.

Sharing records

Do not post screenshots of someone’s record on social media. Even a masked name with the plate can identify a person.

Vehicle number check Kerala: how does it expose cloned plates?

A vehicle number check Kerala road users run exposes a cloned plate when the record shows a different model, colour or fuel from the vehicle carrying that number. Cloned plates are used to dodge camera fines, so the real owner often discovers them through fines for trips they never made.

If your number is cloned

Collect the challan images, file a police complaint and inform the RTO. One reported case involved a youth who changed his number plate 51 times to dodge AI cameras.

Spotting a fake plate

Check the high-security features on newer vehicles: the laser code and hologram. A plain plate on a 2020 car deserves a second look.

New vehicle registration status Kerala: how do you check it?

Track new vehicle registration status Kerala dealers file with the application number on the receipt, through Vahan’s Know Your Application Status page. Until the RTO assigns the permanent KL number, the vehicle runs on a temporary registration, valid for one month under section 43.

What the dealer does

The dealer files the application, uploads photographs and papers, and collects the tax. You get SMS updates at each step. For a deeper explanation of the status screen, see know your application status.

When the KL number arrives

Once approved, the number appears in Vahan and the dealer fits the high-security plates. Only then will a plate search find the vehicle.

How are vehicle records across Kerala organised?

Vehicle records across Kerala are organised by office: each RTO and sub-RTO owns the records for its area, and all of them write to the one Vahan register. Above them sit four zonal offices and the Transport Commissionerate in Thiruvananthapuram. A separate enforcement wing runs road checks.

Enforcement offices

Kerala has 14 Enforcement RTOs, one for each district. They handle checks and fines but do not register vehicles.

Which office to approach

For a correction or a change, go to the office in the plate code, or the office for your new address if you moved within Kerala and transferred the record.

Why does a Kerala vehicle record sometimes not load?

A Kerala record may fail to load because of a typing slip, a temporary number, an old record not yet moved into Vahan, or a busy server. Try again in a few minutes, check every character, and use the app if the website stalls.

Common Kerala vehicle record search errors with a simple fix for each one
Most failed lookups are typing slips, not missing records.

Captcha loops

If the captcha keeps failing, refresh it rather than retyping. Captchas are case-sensitive.

Still missing

If the plate is genuine and the record still does not appear, write to the office in the plate code with a copy of the RC. The Vahan helpdesk is reachable at [email protected] for portal faults.

What are Uttar Pradesh vehicle registration details?

Uttar Pradesh vehicle registration details are the Vahan record of a UP number: model, dates, insurance and status, with the owner masked. This is a different state from Kerala, but the search is identical. Type the UP number on Vahan or in mParivahan, just as you would a KL plate.

UP offices

UP has district ARTOs and divisional RTOs under the Transport Commissioner in Lucknow. Our page on Uttar Pradesh RTO lists the offices and codes.

A UP vehicle moving to Kerala

A UP car kept in Kerala beyond 12 months needs a KL number. That uses an NOC from the UP office and a new registration in Kerala.

How do TN RTO vehicle details searches work?

TN RTO vehicle details are searched the same way: enter the TN number on Vahan or mParivahan. Tamil Nadu, Kerala’s neighbour, has many offices near the border, so KL and TN vehicles often change hands between the two states. The state’s own site is tnsta.gov.in.

Codes near Kerala

TN-66 is Coimbatore Central, TN-37 Coimbatore South and TN-38 Coimbatore North. These are common on vehicles bought across the Palakkad border.

A quirk of TN numbering

No Tamil Nadu office number has digits that add up to eight, so there is no TN-08, TN-17 or TN-26.

How do you read TN vehicle registration number details?

TN vehicle registration number details follow the same four-part pattern as Kerala: TN, office digits, series letters and number. Some TN offices also add a letter after the digits, such as TN-37Z for the Sulur unit office, which marks a sub-unit of the main RTO.

Series letters with a meaning

In Tamil Nadu, state transport buses use series starting with N or AN, and government vehicles use G-based series. A TN 38 N plate is a state bus.

Coimbatore and Erode

TN-33 is Erode East and TN-45 Tiruchirapalli West. The search result shows the office name, so you need not memorise them.

Where do you find TN bike registration details?

TN bike registration details are found on Vahan or in mParivahan by typing the TN plate. A two-wheeler record shows the model, engine capacity class, registration date, insurance and status. Long-term third-party cover on new bikes means the insurance date may be years ahead.

Five-year cover

From September 2018, new two-wheelers in India carry five-year third-party insurance, so a recent TN bike usually shows a far-off end date.

Buying a TN bike in Kerala

If you live in Kerala and buy a TN bike, plan for a transfer and, after 12 months, a new KL number.

Do Tamil Nadu bike registration details look different?

Tamil Nadu bike registration details look almost the same as Kerala’s on Vahan, because both states use the national software. The differences are in the code and in letters such as Z or W after the office digits, which mark unit offices that Kerala does not use.

What stays the same

Masked owner name, insurance date, fitness and status appear in the same order. A buyer can use one checklist for both states.

The physical card

Each state prints its own smart card design, but the data fields match the Vahan record.

Can you get TN RTO vehicle owner details?

You can get the masked TN RTO vehicle owner details from Vahan, just like in Kerala. The full name, address and phone stay with the Tamil Nadu office. If you need them after an accident or for a court case, the police or your insurer can request them.

For your own TN vehicle

Sign in with the mobile linked to your RC to see your full record and make changes online.

Kerala, Tamil Nadu and UP vehicle searches compared

The three states use the same national register, so the public search returns the same fields. What differs is the state code, how offices are numbered and which state site handles notices. The table sums up the points a buyer usually asks about.

Same rules on privacy

In every state, a stranger sees only the masked name. That rule comes from how Vahan is built, not from each state.

Moving between them

A vehicle moving between any two of these states needs an NOC and, after 12 months, a new registration in the new state.

What should you do after checking a Kerala vehicle’s ownership?

After checking vehicle ownership details in Kerala, act on what you found. If you are buying, finish the transfer quickly. If you found a mismatch, report it. If it is your own vehicle and something is wrong, apply to correct it on Vahan. Our Vahan hub links every related service.

If you are the buyer

Pay only after the checks pass, collect the RC, insurance, PUC and signed Form 29, and file Form 30 within 30 days.

If you are the owner

Keep the mobile number in your record current. Every change, from an address update to a duplicate RC, depends on that OTP.

Vehicle ownership details in kerala questions

Can I see the full owner name of a Kerala vehicle online?

No. The public Vahan and mParivahan search shows a partly masked name. The full name, address and phone stay with the RTO and are released to the owner, police, courts or insurers.

Is a Kerala vehicle details search free?

Yes. Searching a KL number on Vahan or mParivahan costs nothing. Paid services such as a duplicate RC or transfer show their amount on Vahan before payment.

Which website does the Kerala MVD use for vehicle records?

The department's own site is mvd.kerala.gov.in, while vehicle records and applications run on the national Vahan portal at vahan.parivahan.gov.in.

Why does my new car not show up in a KL search?

A car on a temporary registration has no permanent KL number yet. Track it with the application number until the RTO assigns the number.

How do I check RC change status in Kerala?

Open Vahan, choose Know Your Application Status and enter the application number from your receipt. SMS updates also reach the mobile linked to the RC.

Can I find a vehicle's insurance by its Kerala number?

Yes. The Vahan record shows the insurer and valid-up-to date uploaded by insurers. If it looks wrong, ask the insurer, because uploads can lag.

What does KL 15 on a bus mean?

KL-15 is the series used for KSRTC and KURTC buses, registered at the Nationalised Sector office in Thiruvananthapuram.

Can I search an old Kerala plate like KLT or KRE?

Try it exactly as printed, with no spaces. Many pre-1989 records were moved into Vahan, but if it fails, the original RTO can confirm the record.

Is it legal to look up someone's vehicle in Kerala?

Looking up the public record is allowed, since the government provides the search. Using it to harass, stalk or publish someone's details is not, and can lead to police action.

How do I check TN vehicle details?

Search the TN number on Vahan or mParivahan. The result fields match a Kerala search; only the state code and office digits differ.

What are Uttar Pradesh vehicle registration details?

They are the Vahan record of a UP number: model, dates, insurance and status, with the owner masked. Search the UP number on Vahan or mParivahan.

What if the record shows a different chassis number?
