Every HP number plate code, office by office, from HP 01 to HP 99
An HP number plate belongs to a vehicle registered in Himachal Pradesh. HP is the state code, and the two digits after it name the registering office: HP 03 is Shimla (Urban), HP 34 Kullu, HP 37 Palampur and HP 58 Manali. The list we checked runs from HP 01 to HP 99, plus nine codes with an AA suffix, across the state's 12 districts.
Key takeaways
- HP 01 and HP 02 are listed as statewide codes for tourist buses and taxis, not for one town.
- HP 37 is Palampur, HP 38 Nurpur, HP 94 Nagrota Bagwan and HP 97 Indora, all in Kangra district.
- HP 99 is Kotkhai and HP 95 is Kumarsain, two apple-belt offices in Shimla district.
- Many towns hold two numbers, such as Shimla (HP 03, 07, 62, 63) and Solan (HP 14, 59, 64).
- Nine codes carry an AA suffix, for example HP 12AA Baddi and HP 87AA Bali Chowki.
- Code lists come from secondary sources, so check one vehicle on Vahan before relying on it.

What does an HP number plate tell you?
An HP number plate tells you that the vehicle was registered in Himachal Pradesh and which office recorded it. The letters HP are the state code. The next two digits, sometimes followed by AA, are the office code. Nothing else on the plate points to a place.

Where the vehicle was first recorded
The office code reflects the owner’s address when the vehicle was first registered. A car bought by someone in Palampur gets HP 37 and keeps it, even if the owner later moves to Shimla or drives it every day in Chandigarh.
What the plate does not reveal
The plate does not show the owner’s name, the dealer, the model or the year. Those details sit in the registration record on Vahan, which you reach by searching the full number rather than by reading the code.
HP RTO code list from HP 01 to HP 99
This HP RTO code list matches every number we found to its office. It is ordered by code. Where a code covers a sub-division, the town is given with its district in brackets when the source names it. Codes with an AA suffix are listed straight after their parent number.

How complete this list is
Every number from 01 to 99 appears, which is unusual; many states leave gaps. The source is a community-edited list, and Himachal has added sub-division offices over the years, so a recently opened office may be missing or a number may have been reassigned.
Spelling differences you will meet
Town names vary between sources: Dharamsala, Dharamshala and Dharmsala all appear for the same Kangra town. Dheera is also written Dhira. Search by the code, not the spelling, when you compare lists.
How are Himachal Pradesh RTO codes spread across the 12 districts?
The Himachal Pradesh RTO codes are spread unevenly. Kangra and Mandi, the two most populous districts, hold the most numbers because each sub-division has its own office. Thinly populated districts such as Kinnaur and Lahaul and Spiti have only three codes each.
| District | Codes in the list |
|---|---|
| Bilaspur | HP 23, 24, 69, 70, 89, 91 |
| Chamba | HP 44, 45, 46, 47, 48, 57, 73, 81 |
| Hamirpur | HP 21, 22, 55, 60, 67, 74, 84 |
| Kangra | HP 04, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 53, 54, 56, 68, 83, 88, 90, 94, 96, 97 |
| Kinnaur | HP 25, 26, 27 |
| Kullu | HP 34, 35, 35AA, 49, 58, 61, 66 |
| Lahaul and Spiti | HP 41, 42, 43 |
| Mandi | HP 05, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 33AA, 65, 76, 82, 86, 87, 87AA |
| Shimla | HP 03, 06, 07, 08, 08AA, 09, 10, 50, 51, 52, 52AA, 62, 63, 75, 77, 92, 95, 99 |
| Sirmaur | HP 16, 16AA, 17, 18, 71, 79, 85, 85AA |
| Solan | HP 11, 12, 12AA, 13, 14, 15, 59, 64, 93, 98 |
| Una | HP 19, 19AA, 20, 72, 78, 80 |
How we grouped the towns
The code list names offices, not always districts. We placed each town in its revenue district using the state’s district lists. Statewide HP 01 and HP 02 are left out because they are not tied to any one district.

Why Shimla has the most numbers
Shimla district has the state capital, a large rural belt and the apple-growing towns of the upper hills. That mix explains eighteen entries, from urban and rural Shimla codes to Rohru, Jubbal, Kotkhai and Kumarsain.
What is HP RTO and who runs it?
HP RTO is the common name for the registering and licensing authorities of Himachal Pradesh. People also say “RTO Himachal”. In practice the work is split between regional transport offices and sub-divisional registering offices, all under the state transport department, which uses the national Vahan and Sarathi systems.
Regional office and sub-division office
A regional office covers a wider area and handles transport vehicles and permits, while many sub-division offices register private vehicles and issue licences locally. That is why small towns such as Janjehli or Haroli carry their own codes.
How it fits the national system
Every code on this page is a Himachal office plugged into the national Vahan registration database. To see how codes work across India and how other states number their offices, start from our Vahan and RTO code guide.
Why does one town hold two HP RTO codes?
An HP RTO code is usually unique to one office, but the list repeats several towns. Shimla, Solan, Mandi, Kullu, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Una, Nahan, Chamba, Nalagarh and Rampur Bushahr each appear under more than one number. The source gives no reason for most of these pairs.
Pairs worth knowing
Shimla (Urban) has HP 03 and HP 07; Solan has HP 14, 59 and 64; Mandi has HP 05, 33 and 65; Kullu has HP 34, 61 and 66; Hamirpur has HP 22, 60 and 67; Una has HP 20 and 72; Nahan has HP 18 and 71.
What this means for a buyer
Two plates from the same town can carry different numbers, and both can be genuine. If a seller says a car is “Solan passing” and the plate shows HP 64, that is consistent with the list. Vahan settles which office actually holds the record.
HP 37 RTO: which office is it?
The HP 37 RTO is Palampur, in Kangra district. Palampur is a tea-growing town below the Dhauladhar range, and its office registers vehicles for the surrounding sub-division. It is one of the most searched Himachal codes because Palampur plates are common across the Kangra valley.

Reading an HP 37 plate
Take HP 37 AB 1234. HP is Himachal, 37 is Palampur, AB is the series and 1234 the running number. When a series is used up the office moves to the next letters, so newer vehicles carry later series.
Codes around Palampur
Nearby offices include HP 53 Baijnath to the east, HP 56 Jaisinghpur to the south and HP 94 Nagrota Bagwan to the west.
HP 94 RTO: Nagrota Bagwan
The HP 94 RTO is Nagrota Bagwan, a town in Kangra district on the road between Kangra and Palampur. Its office handles registrations for its sub-division, so a vehicle owned by someone living there receives an HP 94 number rather than a Kangra or Palampur code.
Why it is a newer-looking number
HP 94 sits near the end of the list, alongside other Kangra sub-division codes such as HP 88, HP 90 and HP 96. The list does not date each code, so we cannot say when HP 94 was first issued.
Not to be confused with HP 40
HP 40 is listed for Kangra town itself and HP 04 for Kangra and Dharamsala. A plate reading HP 94 is not a typing error for HP 04; it is a separate office.
HP 38 which city?
For anyone asking “HP 38 which city”, the answer is Nurpur. Nurpur is in western Kangra district, near the Punjab border and the road to Pathankot. Vehicles registered by owners in the Nurpur sub-division carry HP 38 plates.
Neighbouring western codes
West Kangra has several codes close together: HP 38 Nurpur, HP 54 Jawali, HP 90 Shahpur and HP 97 Indora.
HP 38 on a used car
If you buy an HP 38 car and live elsewhere in Himachal, the number stays the same. You only update the address on the RC. The car is not given a new code just because it moved within the state.
Where is the HP 95 RTO?
The HP 95 RTO is Kumarsain, a town in Shimla district on the route from Narkanda towards Rampur.
Codes in the upper Shimla hills
Shimla district has many small offices: HP 09 Theog, HP 10 Rohru, HP 75 Jubbal, HP 95 Kumarsain and HP 99 Kotkhai.
How to confirm an HP 95 vehicle
Type the full number into the Vahan search. The result names the registering authority, which should match Kumarsain if the list is right.
HP 97 RTO code: which district?
The HP 97 RTO code belongs to Indora, which is in Kangra district. So the answer to “HP 97 which district” is Kangra, even though Indora is on the far western edge of the state, close to Punjab’s Pathankot district and Jammu and Kashmir.
Why HP 97 plates travel
Indora is close to the interstate roads around Pathankot. HP 97 vehicles are often seen in Punjab as well, which makes people search the code when they spot it outside Himachal.
Other codes in the same corner
HP 38 Nurpur is the nearest older office. Indora and Nurpur sub-divisions sit side by side, so a family can own one car with HP 38 and another with HP 97 if they registered them at different times or addresses.
HP 90 RTO: Shahpur in Kangra
The HP 90 RTO is Shahpur in Kangra district, between Dharamshala and Nurpur. Owners whose address falls in the Shahpur sub-division register their vehicles there, so the plate shows HP 90 rather than the older HP 39 Dharamshala or HP 40 Kangra codes.
Where Shahpur fits
Shahpur sits on the main road west from Dharamshala. Its neighbours in the list are HP 39 Dharamshala to the east and HP 38 Nurpur to the west.
Services the office handles
Sub-division offices usually take new registrations, transfers, address changes and licence work. Some tasks, such as fitness tests for transport vehicles, may need a larger office; check the service list on Vahan before you travel.
HP 99 which city?
For “HP 99 which city”, the list gives Kotkhai, a town in Shimla district. HP 99 is the highest number in the Himachal series. Kotkhai is an orchard town east of Shimla.

HP 99 RTO and nearby codes
The HP 99 RTO at Kotkhai sits next to HP 75 Jubbal and HP 09 Theog. Together these upper Shimla offices handle much of the registration work for the apple belt.
What comes after HP 99
The list ends at 99. If the state opens another office, it may use a suffix such as AA, as it has done for HP 12AA Baddi and others, but we have no source saying what the next new code will be.
How do you get RTO vehicle information HP for any number?
To get RTO vehicle information HP owners and buyers use the national Vahan search or the mParivahan app. Enter the full number and the result shows the registering office, vehicle class, fuel, registration date and the validity of insurance and fitness.
- Open the vehicle search. Go to the Vahan or Parivahan vehicle details search, or open the mParivahan app.
- Type the HP number. Enter it in one block, such as HP37AB1234, without spaces.
- Verify. Fill in the captcha or the OTP sent to your phone.
- Read the result. Check the registering office, class, fuel type and validity dates.
What details are public
Public searches show a partly masked owner name and basic vehicle data. Full owner details are given only to the owner, the police or other authorised users. Our guide to RTO vehicle information explains each field.
Vehicle information HP by SMS or app
Basic vehicle information HP records are also available through the mParivahan app and through the Vahan SMS service, where operator charges may apply. The details are the same as on the website.
How much is Himachal road tax?
Himachal road tax is charged when a vehicle is registered and depends on the vehicle class and its price. For personal cars, the secondary source we checked gives a slab of 6% of the price up to Rs 15 lakh and 7% above Rs 15 lakh.
| Personal car or motor cab price | HP road tax (secondary source) |
|---|---|
| Up to Rs 15 lakh | 6% of price |
| Above Rs 15 lakh | 7% of price |
What we could not verify
We could not confirm two-wheeler, commercial or electric vehicle rates on the Himachal transport department site, which did not load from our system. Ask your dealer for the tax line on the invoice, and check the fee panel on Vahan before you pay.
Comparing with other states
Rates differ widely between states. For how the slab is applied to the ex-showroom price and how other states compare, use our road tax calculator guide.
How do you pay Himachal road tax online?
Himachal road tax online payment runs through the Vahan citizen services portal where the state has enabled it. You enter the HP number, choose the tax service, verify with chassis digits and an OTP, then pay through the gateway and download the receipt.

Online road tax payment Himachal Pradesh owners can do
Online road tax payment Himachal Pradesh owners make on Vahan typically covers tax on transport vehicles and balance tax. If the screen says the service is not active for your office, pay at the registering office instead. Our page on online payment covers failed and pending payments.
Keep the receipt
Save the PDF receipt and keep a printout with the RC. HP road tax checks at barriers and during transfers are faster when you can show the receipt number.
What is HP Vahan used for?
HP Vahan means the Himachal records inside the national Vahan system. Every HP registration, transfer, hypothecation entry and tax payment is stored there. When you search an HP number on Vahan, you are reading the same record the registering office uses.
Services you can start online
Address change, duplicate RC, transfer of ownership, hypothecation removal and tax payment can all be started on Vahan. Some still need you to visit the office with originals or bring the vehicle for inspection.
When HP Vahan shows an error
A message saying a service is not activated for your RTO means that office has not switched it on. The office or the state transport department can tell you the offline route.
HP 80 RTO: Haroli in Una
The HP 80 RTO is Haroli in Una district. Haroli is a sub-division in the flat south-west of the state near the Punjab border, and its office registers vehicles for the area so owners do not need to travel to Una town.
Una district codes
Una has six entries: HP 19 Amb, HP 19AA Gagret, HP 20 Una, HP 72 Una, HP 78 Bangana and HP 80 Haroli.
HP 86 RTO: Dharampur
The HP 86 RTO is Dharampur in Mandi district. Dharampur lies in the south of Mandi, near Sarkaghat. Note that Solan district also has a well-known Dharampur on the Kalka–Shimla road, but the list clearly places HP 86 in Mandi.
Avoiding the Dharampur mix-up
Two towns share the name. If a seller says “HP 86, Dharampur near Kasauli”, the claim does not match the list. Check the registering authority on Vahan to see which office issued the number.
Mandi district neighbours
HP 86 sits beside HP 28 Sarkaghat and HP 87 Janjehli in the south and west of Mandi district, with HP 05, 33 and 65 used for Mandi town.
HP 19 which city?
If you are asking “HP 19 which city”, the list gives Amb in Una district. Amb is a sub-division town on the road from Una towards Kangra. Gagret, a nearby industrial town, has its own code: HP 19AA.

HP 19 vs HP 19AA
The AA suffix marks a separate office. HP 19AA Gagret and HP 19 Amb are in the same district but are not the same office, so a Gagret plate is not a misprinted Amb plate.
Where to check
Type the number in full, including AA where it appears, into the Vahan search. The result names the registering authority.
Is there an RTO officer name list for Himachal?
An official RTO officer name list for Himachal is published, if at all, by the state transport department, not by us. Officer postings change often, and we could not load the department’s site to confirm names, so we do not print any officer’s name, phone number or email.
Where to find current officers
Look for a “Who’s who”, directory or contact page on the Himachal Pradesh transport department website, or ask at the registering office. District administration websites often list the sub-divisional officers who act as registering authorities.
HP 84 RTO: Sujanpur Tihra
The HP 84 RTO is Sujanpur Tihra in Hamirpur district. Its office registers vehicles for the sub-division, so local owners get HP 84 instead of the HP 22 Hamirpur code.
Hamirpur district offices
Hamirpur has seven entries: HP 21 Barsar, HP 22, 60 and 67 Hamirpur, HP 55 Nadaun, HP 74 Bhoranj and HP 84 Sujanpur Tihra. Each sub-division keeps its own number.
What does HP passing mean?
HP passing is everyday slang for a vehicle registered in Himachal Pradesh. “Passing” here means registration: an HP passing car simply has a plate that starts with HP.
HP passing RTO
When someone asks which HP passing RTO a vehicle has, they mean the office code, such as HP 34 for Kullu. The office matters because transfers, NOCs and address changes go through that record.
HP rto passing outside Himachal
An HP rto passing vehicle can be driven anywhere in India. If it is kept in another state for more than 12 months, section 47 of the Motor Vehicles Act requires a new registration mark there.
HP 87 RTO: Janjehli and Bali Chowki
The HP 87 RTO is Janjehli in Mandi district, a remote valley town near Shikari Devi. A second office in the same area, Bali Chowki, uses HP 87AA.
Mandi’s AA codes
Mandi district has two AA codes: HP 33AA Kotli and HP 87AA Bali Chowki. Together with fourteen entries in all, Mandi has the second-largest share of HP numbers after Shimla.
Remote offices and online services
In remote valleys, an online application on Vahan saves a trip. You may still need to visit for document checks or inspection, so ask the office about its working days before you travel.
How does HP vehicle registration work?
HP vehicle registration follows the national process. Your dealer usually files the application on Vahan, you pay road tax and fees, and the registering office for your address issues the number. That office’s code becomes the first part of your plate for the life of the vehicle in Himachal.
HP car registration documents
For an HP car registration you normally need proof of address, identity, insurance, the sale invoice and the dealer’s forms. The dealer uploads most of these; keep copies for your own records.
HP vehicle number and series
Your HP vehicle number is allotted in the office’s current series. Choice and fancy numbers are auctioned or sold separately; the state sets those charges, so ask the office for the current rates.
HP 20 which city?
For “HP 20 which city”, the answer is Una, the district headquarters of Una district in the south-west. HP 72 is also listed for Una.
Una’s two codes
Una town appears under both HP 20 and HP 72. Both are genuine. The registering authority on Vahan tells you which office record a specific vehicle belongs to.
Not the same as HP 19
HP 19 is Amb, a separate sub-division in the same district. The numbers are adjacent, so they are easy to confuse when you read a plate quickly.
HP 96 RTO: Dheera
The HP 96 RTO is Dheera, also spelled Dhira, in Kangra district. It is a sub-division town between Palampur and Jaisinghpur. Owners in Dheera’s area register there, which is why HP 96 plates are common in the eastern Kangra valley.
Eastern Kangra codes together
East Kangra is crowded with offices: HP 37 Palampur, HP 53 Baijnath, HP 56 Jaisinghpur, HP 94 Nagrota Bagwan and HP 96 Dheera.
HP number kahan ka hai?
“HP number kahan ka hai” ka seedha jawab: HP Himachal Pradesh ka state code hai. Uske baad ke do ank batate hain ki gaadi kis office mein register hui, jaise HP 03 Shimla, HP 34 Kullu, HP 37 Palampur ya HP 58 Manali.

Kaise pata karein
Upar di gayi HP RTO code list mein do ank dhundhiye. Agar puri gaadi ki detail chahiye to Vahan ya mParivahan par poora number daal kar search kijiye.
Series letters ka matlab
Number ke beech ke letters, jaise AB ya CD, sirf series hain. Inse jagah ka pata nahi chalta; jagah sirf HP ke baad ke do ank batate hain.
HP 91 RTO: Naina Devi and Swarghat
The HP 91 RTO is listed for Naina Devi and Swarghat in Bilaspur district. Naina Devi is a major hilltop temple town, and Swarghat is the market on the main road below it. The office serves this northern corner of Bilaspur.
Bilaspur district codes
Bilaspur has six entries: HP 23 Ghumarwin, HP 24 Bilaspur, HP 69 and 70 Bilaspur, HP 89 Jhandutta and HP 91 Naina Devi. HP 24 is the best-known code for the district town.
HP 93 which city?
For “HP 93 which city”, the list gives Nalagarh in Solan district. Nalagarh also appears under HP 12, and nearby Baddi has HP 12AA. This is the industrial belt on the Punjab and Haryana border, so commercial vehicles are a large share of local registrations.
Baddi, Barotiwala and Nalagarh
Factories in this belt register trucks, buses and staff vehicles locally. That explains why the area has three entries: HP 12, HP 12AA and HP 93.
Solan district at a glance
Solan’s other codes are HP 11 Arki, HP 13 Kandaghat, HP 14, 59 and 64 Solan, HP 15 Parwanoo and HP 98 Kasauli.
HP 10 which city?
For “HP 10 which city”, the answer is Rohru in Shimla district. Rohru is a valley town on the Pabbar river, deep in the apple country east of Shimla.
Rohru and its neighbours
Rohru sits near HP 75 Jubbal, HP 99 Kotkhai and HP 77 Dodra Kawar. Dodra Kawar is one of the most remote sub-divisions in the state, and its separate code saves residents a long trip.
What is the Shimla RTO code?
The Shimla RTO code depends on which part of Shimla you mean. Shimla (Urban) is listed as HP 03 and HP 07, Shimla (Rural) as HP 51 and HP 52, Sunni as HP 52AA, and HP 62 and HP 63 are also listed for Shimla. HP 50 is listed for Shimla auto-rickshaws.

HP 03 RTO in practice
The HP 03 RTO code is the one most people associate with Shimla city plates. Older city vehicles often carry HP 03 or HP 07, while rural addresses get HP 51 or HP 52.
Shimla taxis
Many Shimla taxis carry the statewide HP 01 or HP 02 codes rather than a city number, so a taxi’s plate does not always say Shimla.
HP 81 RTO: Salooni in Chamba
The HP 81 RTO is Salooni in Chamba district. Salooni is a sub-division in the hills west of Chamba town, towards the Jammu and Kashmir border. Local owners get HP 81 rather than HP 48 Chamba.
Chamba district codes
Chamba has eight entries: HP 44 Churah, HP 45 Pangi, HP 46 Bharmour, HP 47 Dalhousie, HP 48 and 73 Chamba, HP 57 Chowari and HP 81 Salooni.
HP 08 RTO: Chaupal and Kupvi
The HP 08 RTO is Chaupal in Shimla district, in the hills south-east of the capital near the Uttarakhand border. Kupvi, a remote area in the same region, has the related code HP 08AA.
HP 08 vs HP 08AA
As with other AA codes, HP 08AA Kupvi is a separate office. When you enter the number on Vahan, include the AA where the plate shows it, or the search may fail.
What is the Hamirpur RTO code?
The Hamirpur RTO code is HP 22, with HP 60 and HP 67 also listed for Hamirpur. Hamirpur is the district headquarters in the lower hills. Other offices in the district have their own codes: Barsar HP 21, Nadaun HP 55, Bhoranj HP 74 and Sujanpur Tihra HP 84.
Which number a new car gets
A new car registered at Hamirpur gets whichever number and series the office is issuing at the time. Do not assume an HP 22 plate is older than an HP 67 plate without checking the registration date.
Nadaun and the Beas
HP 55 Nadaun lies on the Beas river on the route to Jwalamukhi, which falls under HP 83 Jawalaji in Kangra.
HP 01 RTO and HP 02 RTO: statewide taxis
The HP 01 RTO and HP 02 codes are listed as statewide codes for tourist buses and taxis. Unlike every other code on this page, they are not tied to a single town. That is why you can meet an HP 01 taxi in Manali, Dharamshala or Shimla.
HP 02 RTO and tourism
The HP 02 RTO code shares this statewide role. The plate colour, normally yellow, confirms commercial use.
What does the colour of an HP car number mean?
The colour of an HP car number follows national rules. A white plate with black text is private, a yellow plate with black text is commercial, a green plate is electric, and a black plate with yellow text is a self-drive rental. The HP code and number are the same in every case.
| Plate colour | Text colour | Use |
|---|---|---|
| White | Black | Private vehicle |
| Yellow | Black | Commercial vehicle, taxi or truck |
| Green | White | Private electric vehicle |
| Green | Yellow | Commercial electric vehicle |
| Black | Yellow | Self-drive rental |
HP no plate rules
An HP no plate must be a high security registration plate with the standard font and IND mark. Our HSRP number plate guide explains how to book one and what the rules require.
Himachal Pradesh number plate on rentals
A Himachal Pradesh number plate on a black background with yellow text means a self-drive rental, which you will see often in Manali and Shimla in season.
What is the Manali RTO code?
The Manali RTO code is HP 58. Manali is in Kullu district at the top of the Kullu valley. Kullu town itself uses HP 34, HP 61 and HP 66, while Banjar is HP 49 and Anni HP 35.

Why Manali plates are everywhere
Manali has many taxis and rentals. Many of them carry HP 01, HP 02 or HP 58 plates, so the town’s code is one of the best known in the state.
Lahaul beyond Manali
North of Manali, Lahaul and Spiti has HP 42 Keylong, HP 41 Kaza and HP 43 Udaipur.
HP 17 number plate: Paonta Sahib

CH which state code?
For “CH which state code”, the answer is Chandigarh, a union territory, not Himachal. Chandigarh uses CH 01, CH 02, CH 03 and CH 04. See our Chandigarh RTO code page for detail.
| Code | Office | State or UT |
|---|---|---|
| CH 01 to CH 04 | Chandigarh | Chandigarh |
| KA 09 | Mysuru West | Karnataka |
KA 9 which registration?
For “KA 9 which registration”, the answer is KA 09, the Mysuru West office in Karnataka. It has nothing to do with Himachal. KA is the state code for Karnataka, and the number is always written with two digits, so KA 9 is KA 09.
Why two digits matter
Vahan expects two-digit office codes. Searching KA9 instead of KA09 often returns no record. Our page on state codes lists every two-letter prefix.
Department of transport HP and Himachal Pradesh parivahan
The department of transport HP runs the state’s registering offices, sets road tax and decides which office gets which code. “Himachal Pradesh parivahan” usually refers to the national Parivahan Sewa portal, through which Himachal’s Vahan and Sarathi services are reached.

State site vs national portal
The state department publishes notifications, office lists and contacts. The national Parivahan portal hosts the actual services, such as tax payment and licence applications. Both are official; neither is this website.
Challans and treasury payments
Traffic challans in Himachal are handled through the national e-Challan system, and some state receipts go through the HIMKOSH treasury portal. Our e challan HP guide explains which one to use.
How do you get a Himachal driving licence?
A Himachal driving licence is applied for on the national Sarathi portal by choosing Himachal Pradesh as the state. You apply for a learner licence first, pass the online test, then book a driving test at your local licensing office after the waiting period.
Where the licence is issued
The same sub-division offices that register vehicles usually act as licensing authorities. Your licence office follows your address, much like your vehicle code.
Check and renew online
To check a licence’s status or start a renewal, see our online licence check guide.
