HR 36 which city: Rewari's RTO code and its sister series
HR 36 which city? It belongs to Rewari, the headquarters town of Rewari district in southern Haryana. The number is issued by the Rewari registering authority for private vehicles. The same district also uses HR 47 for commercial vehicles, HR 43 for Kosli and HR 81 for Bawal, so a single district can show four different codes.
Key takeaways
- HR 36 is Rewari, issued by the RLA Rewari for private vehicles.
- HR 47 is also Rewari, but only for commercial vehicles across the district.
- HR 43 is Kosli and HR 81 is Bawal, both inside Rewari district.
- A private listing places the HR 36 counter at the SDM Office, Mini Secretariat; confirm before going.
- The code records the first registration office, not the owner's present town.

HR 36 which city is it?
If you are asking HR 36 which city, the answer is Rewari. It is the district headquarters and the largest town of Rewari district in south Haryana, close to the Rajasthan border. The Wikipedia list of regional transport offices gives Rewari as both the office and the jurisdiction for this code, and Autocar India names the issuing office as RLA Rewari.

Rewari town, not the whole district
HR 36 covers the Rewari office’s own area. The district’s two other sub-divisions, Kosli and Bawal, have registering offices of their own, so a car bought by a Bawal resident is not automatically an HR 36 car.
Why people look it up
Rewari sits between Gurugram, Jhajjar, Mahendragarh and Rajasthan’s Alwar district. Its vehicles travel well beyond the town, so drivers often wonder where the plates come from.
What does the HR 36 RTO code tell you on a plate?
The HR 36 RTO code carries two facts only. HR says the vehicle was first registered in Haryana, and 36 names Rewari as the office that did it. Everything after those four characters is a running count: the series letters and the four digits were simply the next free combination on the day of registration.

Letters and digits are not addresses
The letter pair moves on when a block of 9,999 numbers is used up. It says nothing about the owner’s street, village or age.
Colour is the quicker clue
A white plate usually marks a private vehicle and a yellow plate a commercial one. In Rewari a yellow plate is more likely to read HR 47 than HR 36.
Which areas come under the Rewari RTO code?
The Rewari RTO code HR 36 is used for private registrations handled at Rewari itself, which in practice means the Rewari sub-division. The address on your documents decides the office. Residents of the Kosli and Bawal sub-divisions are normally registered by their own offices, and every commercial vehicle in the district goes to HR 47.
Dharuhera and other smaller towns
Rewari district also has the sub-tehsils of Dharuhera, Dahina and Manethi. No source we checked lists a separate code for them, and none says plainly which office takes them, so ask the dealer or the RTO which counter applies to your address.
When the address is on a border
Villages near the Kosli or Bawal boundary can go either way. The Vahan application picks the office from the address you enter, so make sure the tehsil on your proof is correct.
What are all the Rewari district RTO codes?
Rewari district uses four codes. Rewari has two of them, one for private and one for commercial vehicles, and the Kosli and Bawal sub-divisions have one each. The table compares two sources.
| Code | Office | Who it registers | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| HR 36 | RLA Rewari | Private vehicles, Rewari area | Listed by both sources |
| HR 47 | DTO/RTA Rewari | Commercial vehicles, whole district | Listed by both sources |
| HR 43 | RLA Kosli | Private vehicles, Kosli area | No address published |
| HR 81 | Bawal | Private vehicles, Bawal area | Missing from Autocar’s list |
How the district came to need four codes
Rewari district was carved out of Gurgaon district on 1 November 1989. We found no dated record of when each code was issued, so we do not guess at that history here.
Codes of the neighbouring districts
Next door, Mahendragarh district uses HR 34 and HR 35 (Narnaul), and Jhajjar uses HR 14 and HR 13 (Bahadurgarh). For every other district in the state, see our Haryana RTO code list.
HR 47 RTO: which vehicles get this series?
The HR 47 RTO series belongs to Rewari as well, but it is kept for commercial vehicles. Autocar India lists it under the DTO/RTA Rewari, and the Wikipedia list gives its jurisdiction as the whole of Rewari district. Taxis, goods carriers, buses and other transport vehicles registered anywhere in the district can therefore carry HR 47.

Why commercial vehicles are kept apart
Transport vehicles need permits, fitness certificates and goods or passenger tax that private cars do not. Holding them under the regional transport authority keeps that work in one place.
A Bawal truck with HR 47
Because HR 47 covers the district, a lorry from the Bawal industrial area can be HR 47 even though private cars there get HR 81.
HR 43 RTO: is Kosli part of Rewari?
Yes. The HR 43 RTO code belongs to Kosli, one of the three sub-divisions of Rewari district. Autocar India names the office as RLA Kosli but does not print a city, address or phone number for it, and the Wikipedia list gives Kosli as both office and jurisdiction.
Who goes to the Kosli office
Private vehicle owners whose documents show an address in the Kosli sub-division are normally registered under HR 43.
No address we could confirm
We could not find a reliable published address for the Kosli counter. Check the Haryana Transport Department website or ask at the SDM office in Kosli.
Where does HR 81 Bawal fit in?
HR 81 is the code the Wikipedia list gives for Bawal, the third sub-division of Rewari district and home to an industrial model township. Autocar India’s Haryana list has no HR 81 row, so confirm any HR 81 vehicle on Vahan.
Where is the HR 36 RTO office listed?
Autocar India lists the HR 36 office as the SDM Office, Mini Secretariat, Rewari, and the HR 47 commercial office at the DTO/RTA Office, Old Court, Rewari. These are private listings, so confirm both on the Haryana Transport Department site before you travel.
| Code | Office as listed | Listed location |
|---|---|---|
| HR 36 | RLA Rewari | SDM Office, Mini Sectt., Rewari |
| HR 47 | DTO/RTA Rewari | DTO/RTA Office, Old Court, Rewari |
| HR 43 | RLA Kosli | Not published by the source |
Details we chose not to print
We have not added office hours, a PIN code or the name of any officer, because no source we could check gives them reliably.
Is there a phone number for the Rewari RTO?
Autocar India lists 01274-222270 for the HR 36 office and 01274-225245 for the HR 47 DTO/RTA office. Neither number appears on a government page we could reach, so check the state transport website first.
Status checks need no call
The progress of an online application is shown on the Vahan portal against your application number, which is usually quicker than ringing a district office.
How do you confirm a vehicle is from HR 36?
To confirm an HR 36 vehicle, look it up on the Vahan vehicle search or in the mParivahan app. The result shows the registering authority, the vehicle class, the fuel type and insurance validity. A genuine HR 36 car should show Rewari as its authority. The steps below take a couple of minutes.
- Open the vehicle search. Use the Know Your Vehicle Details option on the Vahan portal or open the mParivahan app.
- Type the number. Enter the full registration, for example HR36 then the series letters and four digits, with no spaces.
- Clear the check. Solve the captcha or log in with your mobile number if the service asks for it.
- Read the office name. The result shows the registering authority, which should read Rewari for a genuine HR 36 vehicle.
When the authority does not match
If an HR 36 plate returns a different office or no record, do not pay for the vehicle until the seller explains it. A mismatch can point to a copied plate.
Which services does the HR 36 office handle?
The Rewari registering authority deals with vehicle work for private owners in its area: new registrations through dealers, ownership transfers, address changes on the RC, duplicate RCs, hypothecation entries and removal. Most of these start online on Vahan, and the office visit is for document checks or vehicle inspection when the system asks for one.
Commercial work goes to HR 47
Permits, fitness renewals and other transport-vehicle work belong with the DTO/RTA Rewari, not the private registration counter.
Fees are set per service
Each service has its own fee, and Vahan shows the exact amount before payment, so we do not list figures here. For the tax side, see our guide to Haryana road tax.
Can you keep HR 36 after moving away from Rewari?
Yes, within Haryana. The HR 36 number stays with the vehicle for life, and a move to Gurugram or Hisar only needs an address change on the RC. A permanent move to another state is different: the vehicle needs an NOC from Rewari and a new registration in the new state after the period that state allows.
Driving outside Haryana
An HR 36 car can be driven anywhere in India. The code limits nothing about where the vehicle may go.
What should you carry to the Rewari RTO?
Take the appointment slip, the original RC or sale papers, a valid insurance certificate, the PUC certificate, and identity and address proof of the owner. The exact list depends on the service, and the Vahan application lists what it needs once you choose the service.

Bring the vehicle when told
Re-registration, fitness and some transfer cases need the vehicle at the office for inspection. Your slip says whether it is required.
