MH 05 which city, MH 06 and every Maharashtra RTO code

By , Editor and reviewer · Updated · 25 min read · Independent guide, not a government website

In short

MH 05 which city? It is Kalyan, the office for Kalyan, Ulhasnagar, Ambernath, Badlapur and Murbad in Thane district. MH 06 is the Raigad office at Pen, covering Alibag, Roha, Mahad and eight other talukas. Maharashtra's codes now run from MH 01 (Mumbai Central) to MH 61 (Pune's new series), with about 60 offices behind them.

Key takeaways

  • MH 05 is Kalyan (Kalyan, Ulhasnagar, Ambernath, Badlapur, Murbad), not Thane, which is MH 04.
  • MH 06 is Raigad at Pen, but Panvel, Uran, Karjat and Khalapur in the same district use MH 46.
  • Mumbai has four codes: MH 01 Tardeo, MH 02 Andheri, MH 03 Wadala and MH 47 Borivali.
  • Pune city moved from MH 12 to MH 61 in September 2026 after the old series ran out.
  • A May 2025 report counted 24 RTOs and 36 Deputy RTOs in Maharashtra.
  • Code lists here come from secondary sources, so confirm any vehicle on Vahan before relying on it.

MH 05 which city is it?

The answer to MH 05 which city is Kalyan. The Kalyan office sits in Thane district and registers vehicles for four talukas: Kalyan, Ulhasnagar, Ambernath and Murbad. Badlapur, one of the fastest-growing towns on the Central line, falls inside Ambernath taluka, so new cars there also carry MH 05.

Six codes you see every day on the roads around Mumbai, Thane and Raigad.

Towns you will see on MH 05 plates

Kalyan and Dombivli, Ulhasnagar, Ambernath, Badlapur, Titwala and Murbad all feed the same office. If a vehicle parked in Dombivli shows MH 05, it was almost certainly bought by someone living along that stretch of the railway.

MH 05 is not Thane

People often assume the code means Thane city. Thane city, Bhiwandi and Shahapur use MH 04. Kalyan was split out as a separate office for the eastern talukas, which is why the two numbers sit side by side.

Office details for Kalyan

This page explains what the code means. For counters, services and how to reach the office, read our guide to the Kalyan RTO office.

MH 06 which city does the code point to?

When someone asks MH 06 which city, the honest answer is a district rather than one town. MH 06 is the Raigad office, based at Pen. It covers the southern and central parts of Raigad district, from the Alibag coast to the Mahad hills along the Mumbai-Goa highway.

Why Pen and not Alibag

Alibag is the district headquarters, but the transport office for the code works from Pen. On RCs and Vahan records, the registering authority usually reads Raigad or Pen, which surprises owners who expected Alibag.

Who gets an MH 06 number

Anyone with an address in the eleven talukas listed below gets MH 06 when a vehicle is registered there. A buyer in Panvel or Karjat does not, because those talukas belong to a different office.

Which Raigad talukas share the MH06 city name?

The MH06 city name covers eleven talukas: Pen, Alibag, Roha, Murud, Shrivardhan, Mangaon, Mhasala, Poladpur, Tala, Mahad and Sudhagad. Together they form most of Raigad district by area, including beach towns like Kashid and Diveagar and the industrial belt around Roha and Mahad.

List of Raigad talukas registered under the MH06 code at the Pen office
Panvel, Uran, Khalapur and Karjat are in Raigad too, but they use MH 46.

The four Raigad talukas outside MH 06

Panvel, Uran, Khalapur and Karjat use MH 46, served from Kalamboli. These are the talukas closest to Navi Mumbai, and their vehicle volume grew fast enough to need a separate office.

MH 01 which city: is it Mumbai Central?

Yes. The reply to MH 01 which city is Mumbai Central, the RTO at Tardeo. It serves South Mumbai from Colaba and Nariman Point up to Mahim, Sion and Wadala, plus parts of Kurla and Elephanta Island. It was the first code issued in the state.

Public fleets on MH 01

Buses of BEST and vehicles of the BMC are registered at Mumbai Central. That is why many municipal trucks, ambulances and red buses carry MH 01 even when they operate in the far suburbs.

How do you decode a Maharashtra plate in four steps?

Every Maharashtra plate follows the same order: state letters, office number, series letters, then up to four digits. Only the first two parts tell you anything about place. Work through them in order, and confirm with a search when it matters.

  1. Read the state letters. MH at the start means the vehicle was registered somewhere in Maharashtra.
  2. Read the two digits. The number after MH, such as 05 or 06, is the office that issued the registration.
  3. Match the code to an office. Use the regional tables further down this page to find the city and the talukas it covers.
  4. Confirm the full number. Search the complete registration number on Vahan or mParivahan for the official record.
Four steps to find which city an MH 06 number plate belongs to
Only the two digits after MH point to a place; the series letters do not.

Try the plate decoder

What the series letters mean

In MH 06 BK 4410, BK is just the series. Offices move through series letters as numbers run out, so newer vehicles carry later letters. The letters never point to a town or a taluka.

What is the Mumbai RTO code?

There is no single Mumbai RTO code. The city is split between four offices: MH 01 (Tardeo), MH 02 (Andheri), MH 03 (Wadala) and MH 47 (Borivali). The one on your plate depends on the suburb in the address you gave when the vehicle was registered.

Table of Mumbai RTO codes MH 01, MH 02, MH 03 and MH 47 with areas
Your Mumbai code depends on the suburb in your address, not on the dealer.

The wider Mumbai region

Outside city limits, the region adds MH 04 Thane, MH 05 Kalyan, MH 43 Navi Mumbai, MH 46 Panvel, MH 48 Vasai and MH 58 Mira-Bhayandar. Commuters from all of them share the same roads every day.

A quick test

If an address is east of the Central line between Kurla and Mulund, expect MH 03. West of the Western line from Bandra to Jogeshwari, expect MH 02. Further north on the west side, expect MH 47.

MH 02 RTO name: which office is it?

The MH 02 RTO name is Mumbai West, the office at Andheri. It covers the western suburbs from Bandra to Jogeshwari, including Khar, Santacruz, Vile Parle and Andheri itself. Until 2015 it also handled Goregaon to Dahisar, which later moved to MH 47.

Older MH 02 plates further north

Because of that split, a ten-year-old car in Malad or Kandivali may still carry MH 02. The number stayed when the area moved to the new office, so do not read an old plate as a recent address.

More on the Andheri office

For services and documents at this office, see our guide to the Mumbai West RTO.

MH03 RTO name and the area it covers

The MH03 RTO name is Mumbai East, the office at Wadala. Despite the location, its area runs along the eastern suburbs from Kurla to Mulund, plus Mankhurd. Ghatkopar, Vikhroli, Bhandup and Chembur residents usually end up with MH 03 plates.

MH 01 and MH 03 both mention Wadala

MH 01’s area reaches up to Wadala, while MH 03’s office stands there. That overlap confuses people. Go by the jurisdiction of your address, not by which building is closer to home.

MH 47 city name: which part of Mumbai?

The MH 47 city name is Mumbai North, and the office is in Borivali. It covers the far western suburbs from Goregaon to Dahisar in Mumbai Suburban district. The code was created to take load off the Andheri office, which had served the whole western belt.

What MH 47 took over

Goregaon, Malad, Kandivali, Borivali and Dahisar moved from MH 02 to MH 47 after 2015. New vehicles from those suburbs now get MH 47, while older ones keep their original MH 02 numbers.

When to read the dedicated MH 47 page

If you need the office’s services or common queries, our page answering MH 47 which city goes into more detail than this list.

Where does Borivali RTO fit in?

Borivali RTO is the everyday name for the Mumbai North office that issues MH 47. It is the northernmost RTO inside Mumbai city on the western side. Vehicles beyond Dahisar, in Mira-Bhayandar, cross into Thane district and use MH 58 instead.

Is MH 47 RTO in Borivali or Dahisar?

Sources describe the MH 47 RTO as Mumbai North at Borivali, and some older listings mention Dahisar. Both names refer to the same office and code. Check the current office location on the state transport department’s list before you travel.

What does MH 47 passing city name mean?

A plate with MH 47 passing simply means it was registered at Mumbai North. When people ask for the MH 47 passing city name, the answer is Mumbai, specifically the Goregaon to Dahisar belt.

Which area does RTO Panvel cover?

RTO Panvel issues MH 46 and works from Kalamboli. It covers the stretch from Kharghar to the Panvel suburbs plus four Raigad talukas: Panvel, Uran, Khalapur and Karjat. That makes it the office for Navi Mumbai’s southern nodes and the new airport area.

Panvel versus Navi Mumbai

Navi Mumbai is split. Airoli to CBD Belapur uses MH 43, while Kharghar and nodes south of it use MH 46. Two neighbours a few kilometres apart can therefore carry different codes.

More about MH 46

For the office’s services and the towns behind the code, see our page on MH 46 passing.

Which towns does RTO Vasai Virar serve?

RTO Vasai Virar issues MH 48 and covers the Vasai-Virar city limits. The RTO list we checked also places all of Palghar district under it, but a separate Palghar Deputy RTO was approved in 2025, so that larger area may be changing over.

Vasai, Virar, Nalasopara and Naigaon

All four towns on the Western line north of the Vasai creek sit inside the Vasai-Virar municipal area. Residents there get MH 48 plates; vehicles from Bhayandar just south of the creek get MH 58.

What we did not publish

We found the office address only on insurer websites, not on an official page. Use the Maharashtra transport department’s office list for the current address and timings.

MH 7 which city on the Konkan coast?

MH 7 which city? Written MH 07 on plates, it is Sindhudurg, the southernmost district of the Konkan. The office is at Oros, the planned district headquarters, and it covers the whole district from Vaibhavwadi in the north to Dodamarg near the Goa border.

Talukas under MH 07

Sindhudurg’s talukas include Kudal, Sawantwadi, Kankavli, Malvan, Vengurla, Devgad, Vaibhavwadi and Dodamarg. Since the whole district shares one code, a Malvan fishing-village scooter and a Sawantwadi taxi both carry MH 07.

The Konkan sequence

Codes along the coast run in order from the north: MH 06 Raigad, MH 08 Ratnagiri and MH 07 Sindhudurg. Ratnagiri also uses one code for its entire district.

MH 9 which city is it?

The answer to MH 9 which city is Kolhapur. Plates show it as MH 09. The Kolhapur office covers the city and most of the district, including Karveer, Kagal, Panhala, Gadhinglaj, Radhanagari and Chandgad. Only the industrial talukas around Ichalkaranji use a different code.

Ichalkaranji has its own code

Ichalkaranji town with Hatkanangle and Shirol talukas uses MH 51. If a textile-belt truck carries MH 51, it still belongs to Kolhapur district, just to the second office.

Neighbouring southern codes

South-west Maharashtra runs MH 09 Kolhapur, MH 10 Sangli and MH 11 Satara, with sub-offices MH 50 Karad, MH 53 Phaltan and MH 59 Jat filling the gaps.

What does a Kolhapur MH 09 code mean for owners?

For an owner, an MH 09 code means the vehicle’s file sits with the Kolhapur RTO. Transfers, hypothecation changes and duplicate RCs are processed against that record. Our RC details in Maharashtra guide covers the registration side in full, so here we keep to what the code tells you.

Moving out of Kolhapur

If you move to Pune, the vehicle keeps its MH 09 number. You update the address on the RC rather than re-registering, because both offices are in the same state.

Buying a used MH 09 vehicle

Before buying, match the seller’s documents to the Kolhapur record. A mismatch between the plate, RC and Vahan entry is a reason to stop and ask questions.

What does an MH 09 number plate look like?

An MH 09 number plate reads like MH 09 AB 1234: the state letters, the Kolhapur office number, the series and the number. Plates for vehicles sold since 2019 are high security registration plates with a chromium hologram and a laser-etched serial, fitted by the dealer.

Letters and numerals only

Maharashtra plates must use English capital letters and Arabic numerals. Plates written in Devanagari, or showing “Maharashtra” in place of MH, have been treated as violations.

MH12 RTO name and the move to MH-61

The MH12 RTO name is Pune, the main office for the city and the Haveli, Bhor, Velhe, Purandar and Shirur talukas plus parts of Mulshi. It became the first RTO in India to use up every number in its code, so new Pune registrations moved to MH 61 in September 2026.

Comparison of Pune district codes MH 12, MH 61, MH 14 passing and MH 42
Pune district is split across four codes, so the town decides the plate.

Why MH 12 ran out

All 9,999 numbers in the last ZZ series were used. A three-letter MH 12 AAA format was dropped over concerns about number-plate cameras, so the state opened a fresh code for the same office instead.

MH 61 is the same office

MH 61 covers the same area as MH 12. Its two-wheeler B series filled within about a week. For more, read the page on MH 12 which city.

MH 14 RTO: which part of Pune district?

The MH 14 RTO is Pimpri-Chinchwad. It covers the PCMC area, the Hinjawadi IT hub, parts of Mulshi, and four northern talukas: Junnar, Khed, Maval and Ambegaon. In practice, the code spans everything from Chakan’s factories to Lonavala in Maval.

Hinjawadi buyers

Hinjawadi employees who live in Wakad or Pimple Saudagar get MH 14, while colleagues living in Kothrud get MH 12 or MH 61. The office follows the home address.

The dedicated MH 14 page

Our page on MH 14 which city has the office-level detail for this code.

Which towns use MH 14 passing?

MH 14 passing appears on vehicles from Pimpri, Chinchwad, Akurdi, Bhosari, Chakan, Talegaon, Lonavala, Junnar, Rajgurunagar and Manchar. These towns all sit inside the four talukas and the municipal area listed above, so their owners share one office and one code.

Lonavala and Khandala

Both hill stations are in Maval taluka, so local taxis and cars carry MH 14. A Mumbai-registered car parked there on a weekend shows the visitor’s home code instead.

What does RTO Pimpri Chinchwad Pune handle?

RTO Pimpri Chinchwad Pune handles the usual work of a regional office for its area: new vehicle registration, ownership transfer, address change on RCs, learner and driving licences, permits and fitness checks. Many of these start online through Parivahan, with a visit only for tests or inspection.

Dealer-point registration

For new private vehicles, the dealer usually registers the car or bike online. The owner rarely visits the office, and the MH 14 number is allotted from the current series.

What we did not publish

We could not find the office address on an official page we could open. Use the state transport department’s office list for the current address and hours.

MH 42 city name: is it Baramati?

Yes. The MH 42 city name is Baramati, a sub-office in Pune district. It registers vehicles from Baramati, Indapur and Daund talukas in the south-east of the district. That makes Pune district home to four codes: MH 12, MH 14, MH 42 and MH 61.

Indapur’s mixed listings

Wikipedia’s list places Indapur under MH 42 but also mentions it in MH 61’s area. If you live in Indapur, check the registering authority on a neighbour’s RC or ask the office before you buy.

MH13 passing: which Solapur talukas?

MH13 passing means the Solapur office. It covers North Solapur, South Solapur, Mangalwedha, Barshi, Mohol, Pandharpur and Akkalkot. The western talukas of the district are handled by the Akluj sub-office instead, which uses its own code.

Akluj covers the west

MH 45 Akluj takes Malshiras, Madha, Sangola and Karmala. A vehicle from Karmala therefore shows MH 45, even though it is in Solapur district.

MH 16 city name after the Ahilyanagar rename

The MH 16 city name is Ahmednagar, which the state has renamed Ahilyanagar (cabinet decision 2024, Centre’s approval reported in October 2024). The code did not change. MH 16 covers Nagar, Jamkhed, Shrigonda, Pathardi, Parner, Karjat and Shevgaon talukas.

The northern half uses MH 17

MH 17 Shrirampur takes Shrirampur, Nevasa, Rahuri, Rahta, Kopargaon, Sangamner and Akole. Shirdi sits in Rahta taluka, so many temple-town taxis carry MH 17, not MH 16.

Renamed districts keep codes

Like Aurangabad (now Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, MH 20) and Osmanabad (now Dharashiv, MH 25), the rename changes the name on new records, not the number on existing plates.

Nashik RTO code: MH-15 or MH-41?

The main Nashik RTO code is MH 15. It covers Nashik, Dindori, Trimbakeshwar, Surgana, Yeola, Chandvad, Niphad, Sinnar, Peth and Igatpuri. The district’s north-eastern side is served by MH 41 Malegaon, which handles Malegaon, Satana, Kalwan, Deola and Nandgaon.

Common Maharashtra RTO code mix-ups such as MH 05 and Thane, with fixes
Most wrong guesses come from districts that have more than one office.

Nashik city and Igatpuri

Nashik city, the Trimbakeshwar temple town and Igatpuri on the Mumbai highway all fall under MH 15. If you register a car in any of them, expect an MH 15 number.

Satana and Kalwan surprise people

Because Satana and Kalwan are closer to Nashik on the map than to Malegaon, owners sometimes expect MH 15. Their talukas belong to MH 41, so go by the jurisdiction list.

MH 19 passing: which Jalgaon towns?

MH 19 passing belongs to the Jalgaon office, covering Jalgaon, Bhusawal, Jamner, Yaval, Bodwad, Muktainagar and Raver. Jalgaon district has three codes in all, because two sub-offices take the southern and western talukas.

MH 52 and MH 54

MH 52 Chalisgaon serves Chalisgaon taluka. MH 54 Bhadgaon serves Bhadgaon, Pachora, Parola, Amalner, Chopda, Erandol and Dharangaon. A banana truck from Raver shows MH 19, while one from Chopda shows MH 54.

Khandesh neighbours

Next door, MH 18 Dhule and MH 39 Nandurbar each use one code for their whole district, so Khandesh has five codes across three districts.

MH 57 which city in Marathwada?

The reply to MH 57 which city is Vaijapur, a sub-office in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district. It covers Vaijapur and Gangapur talukas. The rest of the district, including the city itself, registers under MH 20.

Why Vaijapur needed a code

Vaijapur and Gangapur lie on the district’s western side towards Nashik and Ahilyanagar. A local office saves residents the trip into the city for tests and inspections.

Other Marathwada sub-offices

Marathwada also has MH 44 Ambajogai in Beed district and MH 55 Udgir in Latur district, both carved out of larger district offices.

Which code does Nanded RTO use?

Nanded RTO uses MH 26 for the whole of Nanded district. Unlike Beed or Latur, Nanded has no sub-office with a separate code in the list we checked, so every taluka from Kinwat to Degloor shares MH 26.

Nanded’s neighbours

The surrounding codes are MH 22 Parbhani, MH 38 Hingoli, MH 24 Latur and MH 29 Yavatmal. Plates from Telangana (TS) and Karnataka (KA) are also common on Nanded roads because the district touches both states.

Which code does RTO office Latur issue?

RTO office Latur issues MH 24 for Latur, Ausa, Nilanga, Renapur and Chakur talukas. The district’s south-eastern talukas belong to the Udgir sub-office, MH 55, which covers Udgir, Deoni, Jalkot, Shirur Anantpal and Ahmadpur.

Ahmadpur is not MH 24

Ahmadpur is closer to Latur city than to Udgir by some routes, but its taluka belongs to MH 55. Check your taluka against this list rather than guessing by distance.

Address and timings

We did not find an official page listing the Latur office address. Use the Maharashtra transport department’s office list for current details.

Nagpur RTO code: why are there three?

The Nagpur RTO code depends on where you live. The city is split into MH 31 Nagpur West and MH 49 Nagpur East, while the rest of the district outside Nagpur Urban taluka uses MH 40 Nagpur Rural. Three offices share the load of the state’s third-largest city.

Stat card of Nagpur RTO code options MH 31, MH 49 and MH 40
Wardha next door uses a single code, MH 32, for its whole district.

West, east and rural

The boundary between MH 31 and MH 49 runs through the city, so check your locality against the office list before you register. Towns like Kamptee, Hingna or Katol in the district outside the urban taluka fall under MH 40.

The rest of eastern Vidarbha

Nearby codes are MH 32 Wardha, MH 33 Gadchiroli, MH 34 Chandrapur, MH 35 Gondia and MH 36 Bhandara, each covering a whole district.

MH 32 RTO: which district is it?

The MH 32 RTO is Wardha, and the code covers the entire Wardha district. That includes Wardha city, Hinganghat, Arvi, Deoli, Selu, Samudrapur, Ashti and Karanja. Sevagram, Mahatma Gandhi’s ashram village, sits just outside Wardha city and also uses MH 32.

One code for the whole district

Wardha has no sub-office with a separate code in the list we checked. Every vehicle registered in the district therefore shares MH 32, whether it belongs to a Hinganghat trader or an Arvi farmer.

Between Nagpur and Yavatmal

Wardha lies between Nagpur (MH 31, 40, 49) and Yavatmal (MH 29). On the Nagpur-Hyderabad highway you will see all of these codes within an hour’s drive.

What does RTO office Wardha cover?

RTO office Wardha handles registration, licences, permits and fitness for the whole district under MH 32. Most applications start online on Parivahan, and the office deals with driving tests, vehicle inspections and cases that need documents checked in person.

Driving tests in Wardha

Learner licence tests can usually be taken online, while the driving test for a permanent licence needs a slot at the office or its test track. Book the slot on the Sarathi portal before you go.

Office address

We could not confirm the office address or timings from an official source. Check the state transport department’s office list before visiting.

What is the Maharashtra RTO code format?

The Maharashtra RTO code is the two-digit number after MH on a plate. Together they form the office part of the registration mark. The full number then adds a series of one to three letters and a running number up to 9999.

Letters chosen to avoid confusion

Series letters skip I and O, which look like 1 and 0. That is why you rarely see series such as AI or BO on Maharashtra plates.

Where the MH state code comes from

MH stands for Maharashtra in the national list of state codes. Our page on the Maharashtra state code compares it with other states’ letters.

Maharashtra RTO list by region

The Maharashtra RTO list is easiest to read by region. The state has six broad areas, and each runs through its own cluster of codes. The table below shows which codes fall in each region and the main offices behind them.

Why some regions have more codes

Regions with big cities, such as Mumbai and Pune, split offices as vehicle numbers grew. Rural Vidarbha districts mostly kept one code each.

MH 60 is still settling

Palghar’s code is listed as MH 60, but the office was only approved in 2025. Treat it as provisional until you see it on a Vahan record.

How to use this table

Find the suburb or taluka in your address in the third column. If it is not listed, it usually belongs to the district office of the area around it.

Maharashtra RTO code list for Vidarbha

The Maharashtra RTO code list for Vidarbha is simpler than Mumbai’s. Most of its eleven districts use a single code for the whole district, with Nagpur’s three offices and a Buldhana sub-office as the exceptions. The table pairs each code with what it covers.

Buldhana’s split

Buldhana district has MH 28 for the south and MH 56 Khamgaon for Khamgaon, Nandura, Shegaon, Malkapur, Jalgaon Jamod and Sangrampur. Shegaon’s temple town therefore sees many MH 56 plates.

MH RTO code list of taluka offices

The MH RTO code list also includes sub-offices that serve a few talukas rather than a whole district. They are the codes that confuse people most, because the district name on a map does not match the office on the RC. Here are the main ones.

Sangli and Jat

Sangli’s main office is MH 10; only Jat taluka on the Karnataka border uses MH 59.

What is in the MH RTO passing new list?

The MH RTO passing new list is short. The newest codes are MH 58 Mira-Bhayandar, MH 59 Jat, MH 60 Palghar and MH 61 Pune. New codes appear when an area gets its own office, or, in Pune’s case, when an old code runs out of numbers.

MH 60 Palghar

The state approved a Deputy RTO at Palghar by government resolution on 21 May 2025, and the PTI news agency reported its code as MH 60. Staff and leased land still had to be arranged, so confirm the office is issuing numbers before you plan around it.

MH 61 Pune

MH 61 started around September 2026 as a temporary arrangement for the Pune office. Reports say it will run until an alternative MH 12 series is ready, so expect more changes.

How many RTO in Maharashtra?

How many RTO in Maharashtra? A PTI report from May 2025 counted 24 Regional Transport Offices and 36 Deputy RTOs after the Palghar office was added, about 60 offices in total. The codes in use run from MH 01 to MH 61.

Why the count and the codes differ

Codes and offices are not one-to-one. Pune’s office holds both MH 12 and MH 61, and a new office may be approved before it gets staff and a code. That is why the counts do not line up exactly.

Where to check the latest count

Offices are added by government resolution. The Maharashtra Motor Vehicles Department site lists current RTOs and Deputy RTOs; check it, because a 2025 count may already be out of date.

Which Maharashtra RTO services can you use online?

Most Maharashtra RTO work now starts online on the national Parivahan portals. The state uses Vahan for vehicles and Sarathi for licences, and it offers several faceless services, such as dealer-point registration, that need no office visit. For phone-based access, see our mParivahan guide.

Dos and don'ts for Maharashtra RTO online services and MH code checks
Many registration and licence tasks start online; some still need a visit.

Services that still need a visit

Driving tests for a permanent licence, physical inspection of some vehicles and fitness checks for transport vehicles usually need you at the office or its test track. Book the slot online first.

Pick the right office online

When you apply, you choose your RTO from a drop-down. Pick the office for your address, using the tables above, or the application may be rejected and sent back.

Does mParivahan Ahmedabad show MH numbers?

People search mParivahan Ahmedabad when they want to look up a Gujarat vehicle. mParivahan is a national app, so it works for Ahmedabad numbers (GJ 01) and Maharashtra numbers alike. Ahmedabad is in Gujarat, though, so it has no MH code at all.

Looking up an Ahmedabad vehicle

Enter the full GJ 01 registration number in the app’s RC search. For the Ahmedabad office itself, see our page on RTO Ahmedabad.

Gujarat cars in Maharashtra

GJ plates are common on Mumbai and Nashik roads. A vehicle that moves to Maharashtra for good needs re-registration under an MH code after the stay limit set by the rules; the transport office can confirm the timeline.

How do you confirm an MH code before buying a vehicle?

Treat any code list, including ours, as a guide. Before buying, search the full registration number on the national vehicle registry or the mParivahan app. The record shows the registering authority, which confirms the office directly and may differ from what you expected.

What to match

Match the registering authority on the record with the code on the plate and the office printed on the RC. All three should agree. If they do not, ask the seller why before any money changes hands.

When the record and the list disagree

If the record names a different office than this page, trust the record. Code jurisdictions change when offices split, and secondary lists can lag behind.
