MH 38 which city: Hingoli, the Marathwada district split from Parbhani
MH 38 which city? The code belongs to Hingoli, a district headquarters in Maharashtra's Marathwada region. The Hingoli RTO at Limbala Matka registers vehicles for the whole district: Hingoli, Kalamnuri, Sengaon, Aundha Nagnath and Basmath. The district was created from Parbhani on 1 May 1999, which is why some older local vehicles still carry MH 22.

MH 38 which city does the code belong to?
Anyone wondering MH 38 which city has their answer in Hingoli, the headquarters town of a district in central Maharashtra. A number starting MH 38 was first issued by the Hingoli Regional Transport Office, which serves the whole district rather than the town alone. The town had about 85,103 residents at the 2011 census.

Hingoli’s place in Marathwada
The district belongs to the Aurangabad (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar) division in the Marathwada region, but it borders two Vidarbha districts to the north. That location explains the mix of MH 38, MH 37 and MH 29 plates on the roads around Kalamnuri and Sengaon.
What MH 38 tells you, and what it does not
The four characters only record the office of first registration. They do not reveal who owns the vehicle today, where that person now lives, or whether the insurance is current. For those details you need the official vehicle record.
Where is the RTO office Hingoli residents use?
The state’s office list, as reproduced on Wikipedia, places the RTO office Hingoli drivers visit at Limbala Matka in Hingoli. Insurer directories describe it as in the MIDC zone there. We have not printed a building name, PIN code or phone number, because the websites we checked disagree with one another.
Spellings you may see
Directories write the locality as Limbala Matka or Limbala Makta. Both refer to the same area. If a map search fails with one spelling, try the other, or search for the Hingoli MIDC.
Getting there from the talukas
Basmath and Aundha Nagnath sit in the southern sub-division, so their residents travel furthest. Confirm the appointment online before leaving, since a wasted trip from Basmath costs most of a day.
Which talukas register under MH 38?
Hingoli district has five talukas, split into two sub-divisions, and the published RTO list says MH 38 covers the entire district. So a car owner in Basmath and a bike owner in Sengaon both go to the same Limbala Matka office. The table shows each taluka with its sub-division.
| Taluka | Sub-division | Code |
|---|---|---|
| Hingoli | Hingoli | MH 38 |
| Kalamnuri | Hingoli | MH 38 |
| Sengaon | Hingoli | MH 38 |
| Aundha Nagnath | Basmath | MH 38 |
| Basmath | Basmath | MH 38 |
Aundha Nagnath and pilgrim traffic
Aundha Nagnath temple, counted among the twelve jyotirlingas, lies about 25 km south-west of Hingoli town. Pilgrim buses and cars from across India park there, so visitors should not assume every plate nearby is local.
Address proof settles the office
The office follows the taluka named on your Aadhaar, ration card or rent agreement. A village near the Nanded or Washim boundary still registers at MH 38 if the document gives a Hingoli taluka.
How did Hingoli get its own code after 1999?
Hingoli was a part of Parbhani district until 1 May 1999, when the state created a separate district from five of its tehsils. The new district later got its own transport office, which issues MH 38. Before that, the area fell under the Parbhani office and its code, MH 22.

Old MH 22 numbers in Hingoli
A registration number stays with the vehicle for life. Tractors, jeeps and bikes first registered in the area before the split can still carry MH 22, even though their owners now deal with the Hingoli office. Our MH 22 which city page covers the Parbhani side.
No change for existing owners
When the code changed, nobody had to re-register. Only new registrations and any address updates moved to the Hingoli office.
Which codes do the districts around Hingoli use?
Hingoli touches Washim and Yavatmal to the north, Parbhani to the west and Nanded to the south-east, with Buldhana also listed as adjacent. Most of those offices issue one code for the whole district; Buldhana’s MH 28 is listed for seven tehsils rather than the entire district.
| Direction | District | Code | Office location in the list |
|---|---|---|---|
| North | Washim | MH 37 | Lakhala, Washim |
| North | Yavatmal | MH 29 | Nagpur Road, Yavatmal |
| West | Parbhani | MH 22 | Manvat Road, Parbhani |
| South-east | Nanded | MH 26 | CIDCO, Nanded |
| North-west | Buldhana | MH 28 | Malkapur Road, Buldhana |
The Vidarbha side
MH 37 Washim and MH 29 Yavatmal belong to Vidarbha. Kalamnuri and Sengaon residents often trade and travel across that line, so these two codes are the most common “outside” plates in north Hingoli.
The Nanded side
Basmath and Aundha Nagnath face Nanded district, so MH 26 plates are a familiar sight on the southern roads.
What work does the Hingoli RTO handle?
The Hingoli office deals with the usual list of Maharashtra RTO jobs: new registration, transfer of ownership, change of address, adding or removing a loan entry, duplicate RCs, NOCs for moving a vehicle to another state, fitness checks for transport vehicles, permits, and learner and driving licence tests. Most of these start online.
Two-wheelers and tractors
Tractors and motorcycles are registered the same way as cars. Dealers usually file the registration for new vehicles, so the buyer receives the MH 38 number without a separate visit.
Statewide fees and rules
Road tax and form fees are set for the whole state, not by the Hingoli office. Our Maharashtra transport services guide explains them.
Which Hingoli RTO tasks start online?
Nearly every service begins on the national portals. Vahan handles vehicle work such as transfers, NOCs and hypothecation, and Sarathi handles learner and driving licences. After you pay and book, the system tells you whether a visit to Limbala Matka is needed and gives you a slot.

Choosing the right office online
On the drop-down lists, pick “Hingoli” as the RTO. The portal links that choice to the MH 38 office, so you do not need to type the code anywhere.
What to carry on the day
Take the printed appointment slip, original documents and a photocopy of each. For a vehicle inspection, bring the vehicle with valid insurance and a current PUC certificate.
How do you decode an MH 38 plate?
An MH 38 number follows the national format. MH is the Maharashtra prefix and 38 is the Hingoli office. The two letters after that mark the series the office was using on the day, and the last four digits are the serial, as in MH 38 AB 1234.

- Read the state prefix. MH means the vehicle was registered in Maharashtra.
- Read the office number. 38 points to the Hingoli RTO at Limbala Matka.
- Ignore the series letters. They follow the office’s running sequence, not a taluka.
- Search the full number. Use Vahan or mParivahan to see the registering authority.
Written with or without spaces
MH38AB1234 and MH 38 AB 1234 are the same registration. The high-security registration plate fitted on new vehicles prints it in a fixed font with a hologram.
Series letters do not mark talukas
There is no letter series reserved for Basmath or Kalamnuri. Two neighbours in the same village can have quite different series if they registered years apart.
How can you check an MH 38 vehicle record?
Enter the full number on the Vahan citizen services site or in the mParivahan app. The result shows the registering authority, vehicle class, fuel type, registration date and the validity of insurance and fitness, with the owner’s name partly masked. For a vehicle first registered locally, the authority should read Hingoli.
Before buying a used vehicle
Check for an active hypothecation entry, unpaid challans and a valid PUC. Ask the seller to clear any loan entry before you pay, as the transfer cannot finish while it remains.
When the record shows another office
If an MH 38 vehicle shows Pune or Nagpur as the authority, the owner has probably moved and updated the address there. The number itself stays the same.
Is 38 used by other states too?
Yes. The number 38 is reused by many states, so always read the two letters in front. The national list gives GJ 38 to Bavla in Ahmedabad Rural, MP 38 to Raisen, KL 38 to Thodupuzha, TN 38 to Coimbatore North, UP 38 to Sambhal and HR 38 to Faridabad commercial vehicles. Only MH 38 is Hingoli.
Checking a mixed-up plate
If you only noted “38” from a passing vehicle, you cannot tell the state. Use the full number, or the decoder on our RTO code list.
Does an MH 38 number change after a move?
Not inside Maharashtra. A vehicle that moves from Hingoli to Mumbai or Aurangabad keeps its MH 38 number; the owner only updates the address at the new office. A fresh number is needed only after a long-term move to another state, where the vehicle is re-registered under that state’s code.
Leaving Maharashtra
Apply for an NOC from the Hingoli RTO through Vahan, then register at the new state’s office, which issues a new number.
Selling within the state
On a transfer of ownership the plate stays the same, even if the buyer lives in Pune or Nagpur.
Which Hingoli RTO details should you confirm first?
We confirmed the code, the locality and the district-wide coverage. We could not confirm the building address, PIN code, phone number, email, office hours or officer in charge: aggregator sites list two or three different phone numbers and conflicting timings, so this page leaves them out rather than guess.
Where to look
Use the office directory on transport.maharashtra.gov.in first. Your Parivahan appointment slip is the next best source because it names the exact office and time.
If listings disagree
Treat the state transport department as the final word. Repeated details on several aggregator sites can still be outdated.

MH 38 is which district?
MH 38 is Hingoli district in Marathwada, Maharashtra. Its RTO at Limbala Matka registers vehicles from all five talukas.
Is Basmath under MH 38?
Yes. Basmath is a Hingoli taluka and the published list places the entire district under MH 38.
Is Aundha Nagnath MH 38?
Yes. Aundha Nagnath, home to one of the twelve jyotirlingas, is a Hingoli taluka and registers under MH 38.
Why does my Hingoli vehicle show MH 22?
It was probably registered before Hingoli had its own office. Hingoli was part of Parbhani (MH 22) until 1999, and a registration number never changes when districts are redrawn.
What is the Hingoli RTO phone number?
Websites list different numbers, so we have not printed one. Check the office directory on transport.maharashtra.gov.in or your Parivahan appointment slip.
Can I register a vehicle at Hingoli if I live in Washim?
Normally no. Registration goes to the office for the address on your proof, so a Washim address goes to MH 37.
