By , Editor and reviewer · Updated · 8 min read · Independent guide, not a government website

In short

The RTO office Baramati is the Pune district sub-office that issues the code MH 42. It stands on Bhigwan Road, Baramati and registers vehicles and handles licences for Baramati, Indapur and Daund talukas. Pune city and the other talukas use MH 12, MH 61 or MH 14. Confirm phone and counter hours on the state transport list before you travel.

Key takeaways

  • MH 42 is the Baramati RTO, listed on Bhigwan Road in Pune district.
  • It serves Baramati, Indapur and Daund talukas in the south-east of the district.
  • One published list also places Indapur under MH 61, so let the portal choose the office.
  • Aggregator sites list the phone as 02112-243111; we could not confirm it officially.
  • Apply and pay on Vahan or Sarathi first; the visit is for checks, tests and originals.

RTO office Baramati: which code does it issue?

The RTO office Baramati issues MH 42. It is a sub-regional office under the Pune region, and every vehicle it registers for the first time carries a number beginning with MH 42. The office also runs learner and driving licence work for people whose address lies in its three talukas: Baramati, Indapur and Daund.

A sub-office, not the Pune head office

Pune city’s main office at Sangam Bridge issues MH 12 and, since 2026, MH 61. Baramati is a separate desk for the rural south-east, so residents there do not need to travel to Pune for routine work.

Why the south-east has its own office

The three talukas are large and busy. Baramati taluka alone had 4,29,600 people in the 2011 census, and the area has a big MIDC belt, sugar and dairy co-operatives, and farm traffic that keeps the counters full.

Where is the RTO Baramati office located?

Wikipedia’s list of Indian RTOs places the RTO Baramati office on Bhigwan Road, Baramati, Pune district. Two vehicle sites give a fuller line: Super Market, P-15, Vidya Nagari Corner, MIDC Chowk. We could not open the state transport site to confirm it, so treat that line as a guide and check the official list.

Getting there from town

Bhigwan Road leaves Baramati towards the east. The MIDC area of about 800 hectares lies along this road, roughly 5 km outside the municipal limits, and MIDC Chowk is the usual landmark people give.

What is the Baramati RTO code?

The Baramati RTO code is MH 42. MH is the Maharashtra prefix and 42 is the office number in the state series. You will see it written as MH42, MH 42 or MH-42 on papers and plates; all three forms mean the same office.

Where 42 sits in the series

Maharashtra numbers its offices from MH 01 Mumbai Central upwards. Older district offices hold low numbers, while sub-offices opened later, such as Baramati, got higher ones.

MH42 city name: what does the plate tell you?

The MH42 city name is Baramati. When you see MH 42 on a car or bike, it means the vehicle was first registered at the Baramati office. The owner may live in Baramati town, Indapur, Daund or one of their villages, because all three talukas share the code.

“Baramati passing” in everyday speech

Locals often say a vehicle has “Baramati passing”. It is the same idea: the plate names the office that passed the registration, not the street where the owner lives.

What the plate does not reveal

The code does not show the current owner, a later sale or a later address change. Those details sit only in the Vahan record, which you can check online.

Which talukas does the MH 42 RTO cover?

The published list gives the MH 42 RTO three talukas: Baramati, Indapur and Daund. Together they form the south-eastern corner of Pune district along the Bhima and Nira river belt. The table compares this with the other Pune district offices so you can see which code your taluka uses.

Baramati taluka

The taluka is centred on Baramati town (PIN 413102) on the Karha river. The town had 54,415 residents in 2011 and is also home to Baramati Airport and a Krishi Vigyan Kendra.

Daund taluka

Daund town sits on the southern bank of the Bhima river. Its railway junction links the Mumbai-Chennai line, the line to Manmad and the branch to Baramati, which is why many goods vehicles are registered here.

Indapur taluka

Indapur lies near the Ujani dam backwater on National Highway 65. Its farms and highway trade bring a steady flow of tractors and trucks to the office.

Why does Indapur appear under two Pune codes?

The same RTO list names Indapur in the MH 42 row and again in the MH 61 Pune (New) row. That is most likely an editing slip in the list, since Indapur has long been linked with Baramati, but we cannot confirm it from the state site. The safe answer is to let the portal decide.

How to settle it for your address

Start your service on Vahan or Sarathi with your Indapur address. The portal picks the registering authority from your details and shows it before you pay.

What contact details are listed for the office?

Two vehicle sites list the phone number 02112-243111 and the Vidya Nagari Corner, MIDC Chowk address. One directory also gives an email and a PIN of 413133, but only one source states them, so we do not print them. Use the Maharashtra Motor Vehicles Department office list for current contacts.

Why we hold some details back

A wrong number or address can send you to an agent’s shop instead of the office. We print only what at least two sources agree on and mark its status.

On which days does the Baramati office work?

No official counter timetable for Baramati was available to us. On record, Maharashtra government offices moved to a five-day week from 29 February 2020, with hours of 9.45 am to 6.15 pm. One aggregator still shows Monday to Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm, so call before a Saturday trip.

Holidays

State and national holidays close the counters. The online portals stay open, so you can still apply and pay.

Which services does the Baramati office handle?

The MH 42 office does the usual RTO work for its talukas: new registration, transfer of ownership, RC address change, adding or removing a loan entry, duplicate RC, learner and driving licences, licence renewal, and fitness and permits for transport vehicles. Fees vary by service, so the portal shows the amount at payment.

Farm and goods vehicles

Sugar mills, dairies and the MIDC belt bring many tractors, trailers and trucks for fitness and permit work.

Two-wheelers and cars

Dealers in Baramati, Daund and Indapur file new registrations on Vahan, and the plate arrives with an MH 42 number.

How should you prepare online before the visit?

Finish the form on the national portal first. Choose the Baramati office if asked, pay the amount shown and book a slot where one is offered. The trip to Bhigwan Road is then only for document checks, tests or vehicle inspection.

  1. Check your taluka. Make sure the address on your proof lies in Baramati, Indapur or Daund taluka.
  2. Apply online. Start the vehicle service on Vahan or the licence service on Sarathi.
  3. Pay and book. Pay the amount the portal shows and choose a slot if one is offered.
  4. Carry originals. Take the receipts, original papers and self-attested copies to Bhigwan Road.

Most of the work is done on the portal before you travel.

No fee list on this page

Fees depend on the service and vehicle class. We do not print them; the portal shows the current amount before you pay.

Which papers should you carry to Bhigwan Road?

Carry the originals and a set of self-attested copies of everything you uploaded, plus the application form and payment receipt. The address proof is the key paper: it shows that your file belongs to the Baramati office rather than Pune or Akluj.

For vehicle work

Bring the RC, valid insurance and a current PUC certificate. Removing a loan entry needs the lender’s NOC.

For licence work

Bring your learner or driving licence, identity proof and photos if the form asks for them.

Which RTO codes border MH 42?

Around the three talukas you meet MH 12 and MH 61 Pune to the west, MH 16 Ahmednagar across the Bhima to the north, MH 45 Akluj in Solapur district to the east and MH 53 Phaltan in Satara district to the south. Our RTO codes hub lists every office in the state.

Pune city is a different office

For the Sangam Bridge office and the switch from MH 12 to MH 61, read our guide to MH 12 which city.

How do you look up an MH 42 vehicle online?

Type the full number into the Vahan citizen portal or the mParivahan app. The result shows the registering authority, model, registration date and status, with owner details partly masked. If it reads Baramati, the number came from this office. Our RTO vehicle information guide explains each field.

When the record looks wrong

If the model, fuel or status does not match the vehicle, raise it with the office before you buy or sell.

What changes when you move in or out of the MH 42 area?

The number stays, but the address on the record must change. Section 49 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 asks owners to report a new address within 30 days. After you move to Daund or Indapur, later services go to Baramati. The change is filed on Vahan.

Your address proof, not the showroom, decides the office.

Moving to Pune city

An MH 42 car stays MH 42 after a move to Pune. Once the RC address is updated, the file is handled by the Pune office.

Leaving Maharashtra

A long stay in another state usually means re-registration there, starting with an NOC from the office that holds your file.
