UP 60 RTO guide for Ballia: code, tehsils and office

By , Editor and reviewer · Updated · 7 min read · Independent guide, not a government website

In short

The UP 60 RTO is Ballia district's transport office, at the far eastern tip of Uttar Pradesh where the Ganga and the Ghaghra meet the Bihar border. Vehicles owned by residents of Ballia city, Rasra, Bairia, Bansdih, Belthara Road or Sikanderpur all get UP 60 numbers. It works as an Assistant Regional Transport Officer office; begin most jobs on Vahan or Sarathi.

Key takeaways

  • UP 60 belongs to Ballia district, part of the Azamgarh division along with Azamgarh and Mau.
  • Six tehsils (Ballia, Bairia, Bansdih, Belthara Road, Rasra, Sikanderpur) share this single code.
  • A reproduced UP transport directory lists the Ballia ARTO on 05498-297145; a car portal gives another number, so confirm before visiting.
  • Nearby offices include UP 61 Ghazipur, UP 54 Mau, UP 52 Deoria and four Bihar codes such as BR 29 Siwan and BR 44 Buxar.
  • HR 60, PB 60 and RJ 60 are offices in Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan with no connection to Ballia.

What is the UP 60 RTO?

The UP 60 RTO is the registering office for Ballia district, the most easterly district of Uttar Pradesh. Anyone with an address in Ballia who buys a scooter, car, tractor or goods vehicle receives a number that starts with UP 60. Car portals call it the Asst. Reg. Transport Officer, Ballia, so a regional office sits above it.

Wedged between the Ganga and the Ghaghra, Ballia runs its registrations from one office.

Part of the Azamgarh division

Ballia is one of three districts in the Azamgarh division, alongside Azamgarh and Mau. Each runs a separate office, which is why a Ballia plate never reads UP 50 (Azamgarh) or UP 54 (Mau).

Why the ARTO tag does not matter much

For residents, the title is paperwork. Registration, transfer of ownership and licence tests are still handled locally in Ballia.

UP 60 kis jile ka number hai?

UP 60 Ballia jile ka number hai. Agar aapki gaadi Ballia shahar, Rasra, Bairia, Bansdih, Belthara Road ya Sikanderpur ke pate par registered hai, to plate par pehle UP 60 hi aayega.

Tehsil se code nahi badalta

Bairia ki motorcycle ho ya Rasra ki SUV, dono par wahi UP 60 dikhega. Poore jile ke liye ek hi series chalti hai.

Apna number kaise jaanchein

Vahan ya mParivahan mein gaadi number daaliye. Registering authority mein Ballia dikhe to samjhiye number isi jile ka hai.

What is the Ballia RTO code?

The Ballia RTO code is UP 60, listed against Ballia district in the national list of transport office codes. The district was created in 1879 from Ghazipur along with parts of Azamgarh, and it recorded 32,39,774 people in the 2011 Census, spread over the land between two big rivers.

Rivers on both sides

The Ganga runs along the southern edge and the Ghaghra (Saryu) along the northern side. The two meet near Ballia city’s eastern boundary, which shapes the district’s road links.

During the Quit India movement, local leaders including Chittu Pandey freed the area from British rule for a few days from 19 August 1942.

Which tehsils and towns register under UP 60?

All six tehsils of the district use UP 60, and none has a separate series. Ballia city counted 1,04,424 residents in 2011. Rasra is the other Nagar Palika Parishad, while smaller towns such as Reoti, Maniyar, Sahatwar and Chitbara Gaon are Nagar Panchayats.

Distances that matter

Ballia city is roughly 150 km from Varanasi and Gorakhpur, about 380 km from Lucknow and close to 120 km from Patna, so many owners deal with offices in two states.

Where is the Ballia transport office and how do you contact it?

We could not find a verified street address or PIN for the Ballia office. A third-party copy of the UP transport telephone directory, which spells the district “Baliya”, gives the ARTO (Administration) number as 05498-297145 and the email as [email protected]. Use these as starting points only.

Mobile numbers in the directory

The same copy lists 8005441147 for the ARTO (Administration) and 8005441146 for the ARTO (Enforcement). Neither was checked against an official page.

What Spinny shows

Spinny names the office Asst. Reg. Transport Officer Ballia, with phone 0549-8221580 and hours of Monday to Saturday, 10 AM to 5 PM. That landline does not match the directory, so ring before you travel.

Confirming on the day

Your Vahan or Sarathi slot slip prints the office and time. The UP Transport Department site keeps the official office list.

What work does the UP 60 office handle?

The Ballia office deals with everyday transport jobs for the district: registering new vehicles, transferring ownership, updating the RC address, issuing a duplicate RC, recording or cancelling a hypothecation, fitness for commercial vehicles, permits, and learner and driving licence tests. Almost every one of these begins on a portal.

Vehicle and RC requests

Dealers in Ballia submit new registrations on Vahan on the buyer’s behalf. In a used-vehicle sale, seller and buyer each give their details before the office approves the transfer.

Licence requests

Applications for learner and permanent licences are filed on Sarathi, and the test takes place at the Ballia office on your chosen slot.

How do you start Ballia vehicle and licence work online?

Skip the queue by starting online. Select Uttar Pradesh and the Ballia office on Vahan or Sarathi, complete the form, pay, and book a visit only where the service asks for one. These five steps fit most UP 60 requests.

  1. Open the right portal. Vehicle work such as registration, transfer or a duplicate RC goes to Vahan; learner and driving licences go to Sarathi.
  2. Set the office to Ballia. Choose Uttar Pradesh as the state and Ballia as the transport office named on your address proof.
  3. Fill and upload. Enter the vehicle or applicant details and attach clear scans of the documents the form lists.
  4. Pay the shown amount. Pay through the portal’s gateway and keep the receipt with its application number.
  5. Visit if a slot is needed. On the booked date, bring original documents, the receipt and the slot slip to the Ballia office.

What about charges?

Amounts depend on the service and the vehicle class, and the portal works them out at payment. We do not quote figures here; trust the amount on the checkout screen.

Which codes border the UP 60 RTO code area?

Inside Uttar Pradesh, the UP 60 RTO code area touches UP 61 Ghazipur, UP 54 Mau and UP 52 Deoria. Across the state line lie Bihar’s BR 29 Siwan, BR 04 Chhapra (Saran), BR 44 Buxar and BR 03 Arrah (Bhojpur). Numerically, UP 60 sits just before Ghazipur’s UP 61.

Why Bihar plates are common

With four Bihar districts on its border, BR plates are a daily sight in Ballia. They are legal on UP roads while their papers are valid.

The divisional office is covered on our Azamgarh RTO page, and every UP code is in the full UP RTO code list.

How do you decode a UP 60 number plate?

Consider UP 60 AX 4127. UP marks the state, 60 the Ballia office, AX the letter series and 4127 the running number. Series can carry one to three letters, and the number runs from 1 to 9999.

Use the decoder

Reading the series

The letters I and O are left out so they are not mistaken for 1 and 0. A later series only means the vehicle was registered more recently.

How can you verify a Ballia vehicle record?

Enter the complete number in Vahan or the mParivahan app. The public result shows the registering authority, vehicle class, fuel, and insurance and fitness validity, with the owner’s name masked. A genuine UP 60 vehicle should show Ballia as the authority.

If the office name looks odd

A UP 60 plate that returns Ghazipur, a Bihar office or nothing deserves a closer look. Compare the chassis number on the RC with the one on the frame.

Before paying for a used vehicle

Check the PUC and insurance dates, and search for pending challans on the same number before any money changes hands.

Is UP 60 the same as HR 60, PB 60 or RJ 60?

No. HR 60 is Samalkha in Panipat district, Haryana; PB 60 is Gidderbaha in Punjab; and RJ 60 is an additional Jaipur office in Rajasthan. Only UP 60, with the UP prefix, belongs to Ballia.

The Azamgarh confusion

As Ballia is in the Azamgarh division, people sometimes call UP 60 an Azamgarh number. It is not; Azamgarh district uses UP 50.

What happens when a UP 60 vehicle leaves Ballia?

Under Section 47 of the Motor Vehicles Act, a Ballia vehicle kept in another state for over 12 months must be re-registered there. Get a no objection certificate from the Ballia office first, then apply in the new state, for example in Bihar after a move to Patna.

Shifting within UP

Moving to Varanasi or Lucknow does not change the UP 60 number. Section 49 requires you to report the new address within 30 days, which can be done on Vahan.

Short visits

A trip across the river into Bihar needs no new number as long as the RC, insurance and PUC remain valid. Codes for other states are in our RTO codes and offices hub.
