RTO Agra explained: the UP 80 office and what it handles

By , Editor and reviewer · Updated · 7 min read · Independent guide, not a government website

In short

RTO Agra is the Regional Transport Office for Agra district in Uttar Pradesh, and its vehicle code is UP 80. It registers vehicles and handles licence, permit and fitness work for all six tehsils, including Fatehpur Sikri, Bah and Kheragarh. Directories place it in the Transport Nagar area. Start any service on Vahan or Sarathi and visit only when the portal asks.

Key takeaways

  • UP 80 is Agra district, from the city on the Yamuna to Fatehpur Sikri, Kiraoli and Bah.
  • Car portals list it as the Regional Transport Officer, Agra, a full RTO and the seat of the Agra division.
  • A copy of the state directory gives 0562-2600793, mobile 8005441083 and [email protected]; none of these is confirmed on an official page.
  • Listings disagree on the PIN code, so follow the office printed on your Vahan or Sarathi slip.
  • HR 80 is Barwala in Haryana, not Agra; the two state letters always come first.

What is RTO Agra?

RTO Agra is the state transport authority for Agra district, the place where vehicles owned by local residents are registered and where driving licences are tested and issued. Car portals describe it as the office of the Regional Transport Officer, Agra, so it is a full regional office rather than a smaller assistant one.

One code serves the Taj city, Fatehpur Sikri, Bah and every other tehsil.

Head of the Agra division

Agra is also the headquarters of the Agra division, which groups Agra, Firozabad, Mainpuri and Mathura. Each of those districts still keeps its own code and counters.

What changes for residents

For an owner the label matters little. Whether you live in Shahganj or in Pinahat, your registration and licence files go to the same district office.

What is the Agra RTO code?

The Agra RTO code is UP 80. The state letters UP stand for Uttar Pradesh and the number 80 identifies the Agra office in the state’s list. Any new car, scooter, tractor or goods carrier registered to an Agra address receives a number in this series.

Why the number is 80

Codes in Uttar Pradesh follow a list kept by the transport department, not a ranking of city size. Agra simply holds the 80 slot; Firozabad sits at 83 and Mathura at 85.

Confirming the code yourself

Type any full number into the Vahan search or the mParivahan app. The registering authority shown for a genuine UP 80 vehicle reads Agra.

Where is the RTO office Agra?

Third-party listings place the RTO office Agra in the Transport Nagar or Transport Colony area of the city. They do not agree on the PIN: Coverfox shows 282002, while several insurer pages show 282007. We could not open an official office list to settle it, so we do not print a street address.

How to find the right gate

Your appointment slip from Vahan or Sarathi prints the office or test location. Trust that over any map pin or directory line.

Which contact details are listed for Agra RTO?

A reproduction of the UP transport telephone directory lists the Agra office on 0562-2600793, mobile 8005441083, and email [email protected]. Spinny and DriveSpark show the same landline. These are secondary sources, so treat them as a starting point, not as confirmed official details.

Listed working hours

Spinny gives Monday to Saturday, 10 AM to 5 PM. Public holidays and second Saturdays may differ, so ring before travelling.

When nobody answers

Use the email or the grievance option on the Parivahan portal. A written request leaves a record, which a phone call does not.

What does the UP 80 code stand for?

The UP 80 code stands for one thing only: the vehicle was first registered by the Agra district office. It does not track where the owner lives today. A bike bought in Agra and later sold in Lucknow keeps its UP 80 number, because Indian registration numbers stay with the vehicle.

Where you will see it

The code appears on the RC, the insurance policy, the PUC certificate, FASTag records and every challan raised against the vehicle.

Which tehsils of Agra district use UP 80?

Agra district has six tehsils: Agra, Etmadpur, Kiraoli, Kheragarh, Fatehabad and Bah. The district covers about 4,027 sq km and recorded 44,18,797 people in the 2011 Census. All six tehsils share the single UP 80 series, so there is no second code inside the district.

The town column is our grouping from the district article; the address on your RC or Aadhaar decides the tehsil.

Is Fatehpur Sikri under UP 80?

Yes. The Mughal city of Fatehpur Sikri lies in Kiraoli tehsil, west of Agra city, and its vehicles take UP 80 like the rest of the district.

Choosing the office on a form

Portal drop-downs show Agra, not a tehsil name. Pick Agra whether you live in Bah or in Etmadpur.

What work does the Agra transport office handle?

The Agra transport office handles the full range of district work: new registration, transfer of ownership, change of address, duplicate RC, hypothecation entries and removals, commercial vehicle fitness, permits, road tax and learner and driving licence tests. Enforcement teams attached to the office also check vehicles on highways.

Vehicle work

Dealers register most new vehicles directly on Vahan, so buyers rarely need to visit. Used-vehicle transfers need the seller’s and buyer’s details and, where a loan existed, a bank NOC.

Licence work

Applications for a learner or permanent licence go through Sarathi. You come to the office or its track only for the test or a document check.

How do you start an Agra RTO service online?

Begin on the national portal, not at the counter. Choose Vahan or Sarathi, select Uttar Pradesh and then Agra, complete the form, pay and book a slot when one is needed. The sequence below fits most registration and licence services.

  1. Choose the portal. Open Vahan for registration, transfer or RC tasks and Sarathi for learner or driving licence tasks.
  2. Select Agra. Pick Uttar Pradesh as the state and Agra as the office that matches your address proof.
  3. Fill and upload. Enter the vehicle or applicant details and attach the scanned documents the form lists.
  4. Pay and book. Pay the amount the portal calculates and book a slot if a test or inspection is needed.
  5. Visit and track. Attend on the booked date with originals, then follow the application number online.

A note on fees

Fees depend on the service and vehicle class, and the portal works out the total. We do not quote amounts here; the figure on the payment screen is the one that counts.

How do you read an Agra number plate?

Take UP 80 GT 7351 as a sample. UP is the state, 80 is the Agra office, GT is the letter series and 7351 is the running number within it. Only the first four characters identify the place of registration; the rest simply counts vehicles in order.

Only the first four characters point to a place; the rest is a count.

Decode a plate from any state

How do you check a UP 80 vehicle record?

Enter the complete number in Vahan or the mParivahan app. The public result lists the registering authority, vehicle class, fuel, registration date and the validity of insurance and fitness, with the owner’s name partly masked. For a real UP 80 plate the authority should say Agra.

When the details do not match

If a UP 80 plate returns Mathura or Firozabad as the authority, ask why before buying. Compare the chassis number on the RC with the one stamped on the frame.

Which codes surround Agra district?

Agra borders Mathura (UP 85) to the north and Firozabad (UP 83) to the east. To the south and west it meets Rajasthan, where Dholpur (RJ 11) and Bharatpur (RJ 05) lie, and it also touches Morena (MP 06) in Madhya Pradesh. Plates from all of these are common on Agra roads.

Agra touches two other states, so Rajasthan and MP plates are everyday sights.

Expressway traffic

The Yamuna Expressway, opened on 9 August 2012, runs 165.5 km from Greater Noida to Agra, so Noida and Delhi numbers pour into the city daily. Mainpuri (UP 84) and Hathras (UP 86) complete the nearby UP codes.

Every Uttar Pradesh code

For the full series from UP 11 onwards, see our UP RTO code list.

Is UP 80 the same as HR 80?

No. HR 80 belongs to Barwala in Hisar district, Haryana. The digits match, but the state letters differ, and those letters always decide the state. Only UP 80 points to Agra, so read the first two letters before the number whenever a plate looks familiar.

What happens when an Agra vehicle leaves Uttar Pradesh?

Under Section 47 of the Motor Vehicles Act, a vehicle kept in another state for more than 12 months must take a new registration mark there. The owner first obtains a no objection certificate from the Agra office through Vahan, then registers the vehicle in the new state.

Moving within the state

A move to Lucknow or Kanpur keeps the UP 80 number. Section 49 asks you to report the new address within 30 days, which you can do on Vahan.

Short trips

Trips to Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh or Delhi need no change, as long as the RC, insurance and PUC are valid.

What should you carry to the Agra office?

Take the printed receipt or slot slip, original identity and address proof, self-attested copies, and, for vehicle work, the original RC with valid insurance and PUC. For a driving test, bring a vehicle of the class you applied for, with its own papers in order.

Dos and don'ts for a visit to the RTO office Agra for licence or RC work
Most wasted visits come from a missing paper or an unchecked office name.

Avoiding touts

Agents near transport offices often promise faster licences. Every service can be done by you on the portal, and the official receipt is your only proof of payment.
